I live in South Africa and I always get 220-260 ping to EU servers and 340 to US servers.
Is there a possibility to setup some servers that are not in EU or US so the rest of the world can also enjoy the game.
Its getting frustrating not being able to run away from players with 40 ping and die to sword slices, my ping gives me a stun effect every time someone hits me.
This would be greatly appreciated.
There is more servers than just EU and US, they have OCE servers and Asian servers.
Sea of thieves uses Azure data centers to host the servers, which means they are kinda tied to the locations available for that.
that being said, there are two azure data center locations in south africa:
South Africa North in Johannesburg
South Africa West in Cape Town
i just checked the Azure playfab availability (the service SoT uses) and it seems that at least since 2022 africa is among them:
Australia East
Australia Southeast
Brazil South
Central US
East Asia
East US
East US 2
Japan East
Japan West
North Central US
North Europe
South Africa North
South Central US
Southeast Asia
West Europe
West US
this would mean that they could at least in Johannesburg a server setup for sot could be made if there isnt already.
however if you are joining a crew on a server abroad (like US or EU) it wouldnt change anything about the ping.
@rikjaxx you can’t choose your server, your ISP will pick the most appropriate one for you when starting a session. If you have a VPN then make the location whatever you think is closest to your friends and it’s likely it’ll give you that part of the world but remember your ping will be affected because you’re not there technically.

Ok thanks, but it doesn't change the fact that I never have ping below 200 like the people in US and EU
