Community Weekend = Cheater Weekend?

  • I play SoT for around 4 months now and never had much problems with cheaters even in PvP.
But today every 2nd match or more there are strange things.
    Taking damage out of nowere....
magic repairs happening on the other ships..

Looks like the anniversary rewards bring out the worst in the community.

  • you saw auto repairing on the opponent's ship?

a competent crew can stay up a very very long time if they coordinate well and can keep boarders off.

  • yes, but repairing a sloop while one is in the water and one is one the wheel is a little but over coordinated.....

they could just carry water well

I carry a lot of water as a solo, if people have a lot of experience and know damage well they can stay up through a lot of scenarios that people think they can't

Could have been cheating but there are plenty of sloops crews around that know how to take a lot of damage and a lot of water and still stay afloat.

high risk/high reward in fight scenarios

  • @wolfmanbush ive seen an autorepair before. it sucks

  • Yea but there is a difference between seeing it and assuming it. That's the reason cheaters are remarkably difficult to get banned; things like aimbot and auto repair are very difficult to catch on video, which is basically the requirement to get someone banned. Teleporting, underwater walking, and keg teleporting are much easier, as long as you're quick on the "record the last 30 seconds" trigger.

  • Its a shame that game looses its anniversary to cheaters.
I really planed to have fun tonight with the celebrations but after 1,5 hours my crew just left and I can't blame them.
It's hard to accept but the cheaters will probably get the biggest piece of the cake.

  • @gooru72 I agree. Cheating has been rife is SoT the launch of Season 8. It did appear to get better a month or so ago, but it’s come back worse than ever.
My crew came across multiple cheaters today, and witnessed either auto repair/or a similar cheat that stops the ship filling up with water. My crew mate boarded a sloop after we had peppered it with holes - he could see the holes, but the ship would not fill up with water.
We are forever encountering crews using aimbot, particularly on cannons. Most encounters are with players with ‘new’ accounts with minimal gamer score - highly likely that it;s because they have previously had an account banned.

This is an issue that will finally kill the game. I have played regularly since day 1, and have enough experience to know the difference between a skilled crew and a cheating crew.

Cheating has been an increasingly regular topic on these forums, and often people jump to the defence of cheaters, or deny that it is happening.

I love SoT, but the blatant and rife cheating is ruining my love of the game.

  • At least I get 2.5 times the XP from my losses too.
So my crumbs from the cake are bigger too while the cheaters get their feast.

I think for the bulk of us we're not playing against the cheaters, we're playing against the game. It's a race to 180 wins, 540 losses, or somewhere in between. When I saw the amount of allegiance I got for losing yesterday, I was overjoyed!

I'm disappointed I've got some event or another every time there's a boosted weekend, if that weren't the case I could handily grind out a curse with this kind of reward. But still, I'm gonna get disgustingly close and certainly during the next Gold and Glory weekend I'm gonna have both.

Life is good these weekends, try not to let them get you down too much.

  • well sadly a part of this community are cheaters so when community day rolls around it brings the worst part of the community out, but they are a part of this community, nonetheless. till RARE adds an anticheat.

They pretty obviously (imo) snapped up a few of the main exploits in the patch before season 9

and it appears that they are working on at least cutting down on some of the alt activity in the game, I say this because I've seen some people around the community talking about getting temp bans that were later removed on newer accounts which suggests to me they are working on flagging alts/ban evasion

As far as quiet cheating goes they likely already have some sort of monitoring as once in a while they ban enough people to where word gets out in the community.

Imo macros are far more common than downloaded cheats. It's easy to do, people find ways to justify it more easily, they feel safer doing it. I also think this is more widespread within combat. Macro use is also more obvious than any of the quiet cheating, quiet cheating is much more difficult to factually call out than many claim it to be.

  • @wolfmanbush can't argue with that, honestly the best bet is Xbox servers, PC servers are full of the cheating seaweeds.

  • @gooru72 Exactly why I switched to Xbox and disabled crossplay. No more kegs falling from the sky onto my ship, no more god mode enemies, no more magic repairs.
