This is how many games stay viable for so long, the players keep creating new chars and re-experiencing the world.
I like to have a RP context on my chars so I would for example have different chars matched to different ships.

No, it's an old idea and not really that relevant in a game where there is no difference between "levels". There isn't a difference between a 4 year old account and a brand new one except for the commendations and clothing unlocked, and neither of those affect the experience.
You can also basically do this using family share on Windows/XBox and just logging into a different account in Steam. I doubt that messing with the account backend is going to be a high priority for a feature like this.
I don't know Stream, but I doubt that creating multiple Xbox accounts is a desired behavior, especially since Game Pass accounts are not free and on Xbox the monetization is via game pass.
@foambreaker It's intended behaviour. You can even share Game Pass benefits with some plans.

@foambreaker Yes, if you want more people to play under the same pass at a time. You can share with infinite accounts without extra cash, but only one account can play at a time - which is exactly what you are wanting in this thread.

Most MMOs allow you to create multiple chars without having to pay for multiple accounts.

There’s little interest because this isn’t an RPG where you level up your character, maximise it, pick your class, then have alts that have other specs etc. Complicating character choices that way devalues how unique your pirate becomes to you. Your pirate is your identity on the seas and indeed to the wider community. If you have multiple, you lose a piece of who you are too. I’ve grown to love my ugly little sausage pirate because he’s mine, one and only, I wouldn’t change him for anything. If I had 4 others, I wouldn’t feel half the same as I do for my little sausage.

Then don't create any more chars. This is not really a reason to not allow others to do so?

Just no, that is not how it works on Xbox because it is a Game Pass game you need a Game Pass account for each. If you just create a random new Microsoft account and try to play it will ask you to buy the game.

it doesn't matter? I use the ms store version on pc and the xbox version on my series x.
I own the steam version because rare gifted it to me when it was released but I have less than 40 hrs wit that one installed.I'm sorry some here are against it. I have always been up for ideas such as the one you have presented. I think it's ridicoulous we have a pirate potion that you have to buy with real money and all it does is reset your character. Above all, load outs should be free, and if you're going to buy something, it shouldn't be a re-new or reset mechanic.

I don't know how Game Pass interferes with this.If you're playing on MS Store, I believe that you can change accounts and play just fine. I don't know all the details on this and how to ensure it works (I only ever did this one time).
If you're playing on Steam, I don't think this can work, but I'm not a Steam expert.

Based on the thread, you didn't understand how one could play on multiple accounts when only one owns the game. So I explained it. I didn't say this was the solution to your problem. And not a single word in my post was negative. I understand you may be replying to "all the posters" but you're tagging me in this. You come off as very frustrated at me for just presenting information.
I am decidedly neutral on this subject. I think that a lot of people would buy appearance potions if the new pirate didn't overwrite the old one. This also doesn't go against the IPG. But I think that aligning yourself with your pirate is very important. There are few games where you say "my pirate" and actually refer to them as a person, not just your avatar.-

IF however you want a friend or family member to play on one of those second accounts AT THE SAME TIME as you then AND ONLY THEN you would require an additional payment.

That is not the OP request, adding char slots would allow the chars to share ships, multiple accounts cannot do that.

@foambreaker i can plain and simply tell you that more character slots wont happen. Especially not any time soon as this would require basically a full rewrite in how accounts work in sea of thieves.
An xbox live account is a sot account and a sot account is a pirate.
There is no inbetween and to add that, without knowing the actual source code but as a software engineer myself is something i wouldnt want to touch with a 10 foot pole
