No PvP within outpost boundaries

  • Outposts are places of order amongst the chaotic seas. And as such, PvP should be disabled once within a certain boundary. As such as such, any treasure on board your ship upon entering the outpost vicinity should be uninteractable by other players.

This is a small enough change to not drastically change the overall dynamics of the game, as a majority of the seas will still play the same as they do now. But this change would make a big enough difference to bring a lot of players back who simply want a PvE experience.

This would eliminate endless chases, and change up strategies for players looking to sink ships. As the “victim” ships will now immediately race to the safety of an outpost. “Aggressor” ships will have to resort to sneaking up or getting creative and hiding out on islands.

Most importantly, this allows outposts to become what they should have been all along. Safe havens where players can just relax and have fun together and connect. Seeing multiple ships docked at an outpost will bring back memories of happy times like during the megalodon event.

  • Seas ain't safe.

Loot isn't yours until you sell it.

No safe zones are ever really being considered, as this is a PvPvE game that embraces its vision of chaos no matter where you are. You visit an outpost when you know it's safe enough to do so, not when you just reach said outpost. If you're taking too long to leave the outpost, you should be prepared to lose your ship if you leave it unattended and not watching the horizons carefully.

  • The only safe zone is when you Portal Hop using the first Pirates Tall Tale to get into a new server session.

  • @nex-stargaze that’s why I really think safe zones at outposts SHOULD be considered. It addresses the number one complaint people have with the game, and as such should bring more players.

But it wouldn’t change enough to ruin the experience for more experienced players I wouldn’t think.

Would be interesting to at least try with the new golden sands and see how it works out maybe?

  • Devs have said no safe zones multiple times.

    No safe havens.

    LOL. NO. SAFE. ZONES.

This is an absolutely terrible idea and completely against the spirit of the game. Even during the original megalodo event, it was common to have it devolve into pvp immediately after the shark was dead.

  • Uggg no...

  • @koofnoof I have had many instances where I've had loot stolen from me right in front of the vendors, and several moments where I've stolen loot from people right in front of the vendors. It's an intense moment that is only a consequence of not being fully aware of your surroundings and fighting back. If you're having trouble with not being sunk at the outpost, avoid situations that might have you sunk at the outpost and your loot being stolen from your ship's wreckage/in front of the vendor you died next to.

Standing in the door at Reapers waiting for the chest to "arrive" :)

Once you know all the spots on all the outposts and you know what to look out for.. this is why you have scouts go first if you have the option or run in with the less value loot as you set your ship to putter along a little before you get back to it heh.. also kegs make good cleanup tools =x

  • @koofnoof bruh! You’re kidding right?!!! Do you know all the changes they’ve made since day 1 on how easy it is to sell a boat load of loot?! Cmon man!

    1.Sovereigns if you’re on a captained ship

2.Reaper flags to the mysterious stranger now

3.All other emissary flags to the caged skeleton above the reapers table at every outpost

    4.Reapers hideout

    5.Instant harpoon

If you take the time to organize your loot on the way to any outpost…it shouldn’t take more than 2-3 minutes with a decent crew to sell all your treasure.

    Good luck out there mate!

  • NO. SAFE. ZONES.

The devs have REPEATEDLY stated this.

I can expect an anchor to be dropped on this pretty soon as they have already given their thoughts on episode 2 of the podcast.

    Sooooo... in before lock.

  • -1 only safe zone is the Ferry

  • Hi all, here are the teams thoughts on PVE/PVP: Given the debate surrounding PvE vs PvP has been going for some time, the team wanted to address it, laying out our vision and the design intent of the game. Sea of Thieves at its heart has and always will be a shared-world adventure game, and this is something that is not planned to change in the future.
In Episode 2 of the Sea of Thieves Official Podcast, a nuanced discussion surrounding the community debate took place with a number of the senior team involved in the creation of the game. With our position on this topic now clear, the discussion surrounding PvPvE is no longer relevant to the Steam Discussions.
Having closely followed the discussions that have taken place surrounding this topic, we feel that it no longer has a place within this forum as it has, at times, led to unwarranted hostility between members of the community. To prevent this, we will be locking all past threads discussing this and will keep a close eye out for any emerging threads that revive the subject. We ask that users do not repeat post about this topic as any following this thread will be removed and may result in action being taken against offending accounts. If future developments in the game warrant new discussions, then we will of course open this up for the community to freely discuss. If this happens then any such conversations will be closely monitored to gather feedback, but will in no means be an opening for personal attacks to take place again. That being said, we will be dropping anchor here.
