The Rare team should think about adding a feature for the season 8 pvp system that discourages the players that like baiting the battles to the edge just to try and sail their opponents boat into the border zone to avoid actual naval battle and to get a cheap win. It's not only frustrating because if as a player you're queuing for "Naval" battle then not actually participating but trying to use an exploit to get a win, but it's also boring. Now if you're a player just queuing up after every battle I can see how this may not seem to boring because you have another battle waiting around the corner. However for a player like myself (a solo sloop) when I pledge to either alliance I don't immediately queue to dive I like to adventure around and if a battle comes so be it but, that's what I want a "battle" not a some "haha I got you" exploitative nonsense it really just brings the whole adventure to a rather unclumactic ending. I'm not one to really complain about losing cause it happens but losing like that after zero attempt on my opponents part to actually participate in the main focus of the mode just really rubs me the wrong way. All that said I had an idea or two that could help discourage this type of fighting; there could be a feature introduced that when on an opponent's ship while in the border zone you begin to take damage to prevent sqawn camping/ give the player a chance to focus on correcting their course instead of having to almost blindly deal with a camping pirate, or maybe introduce a death match arena that takes place on and around a random island with the player's ships bordering the island but anchored until the end of the match and this mode could also match based on skill and crew size. I think either feature would be beneficial if not both, however if the Rare team is possibly already aware of this issue and are working to resolve it then I leave it in their capable hands to come up with a solution.

OMG that's gold.
Such a low down scurvy pirate fighting a little smart.
Be glad you get out of bounds allegiance and 3rd parties don't get allegiance at all.
No, it is dishonorable.
So you saw your rival's ship going into the deep end of the battle bounds... and you followed them.
...Well we all make mistakes, and you can only make an honest mistake once.
Definitely a vent post though. I can understand your frustrations but this is a certified "tools not rules" moment. The goal of the faction battle is to sink the enemy vessel one way or another, and instead of becoming cannon target practice, your rival chose to play in a risky method that worked because you were baited to the trick. I'd honestly find it funny to look back on in the future, everyone has those silly facepalm moments in their life, and this one is a fine silver medal of that category.
Though maybe this should be a small PSA for those that assume things: If you "practice" your PvP in the hourglass, you're going to frustrate yourself beyond all measure because the fights will never go the way you want or expect. The practice and "battle" is more of a test of mettle more so than some casually competitive e-sport defaults that don't apply here. You'll get better eventually, but it will be an extremely long eventually, and I can tell you now that you're going to get a ton of weird battles that don't make sense or cheat you out of what you normally expect out of fights, as is the nature of Sea of Thieves.
It's alright now that people get their loss rep
if people are engaging to some degree and going for the sink including baiting areas, traps, etc it's within the spirit of the content
The only real "issue" left in content are the people intentionally avoiding all engagement and this is mainly only an issue in solo play
I've adapted a real taste for sailing people out of bounds. (Even if it's not my HG battle)
After having it done to me countless times before we gained xp, I learned techniques players used on me and turned the tide.
Nothing like standing on the canopy blunderbombing sailors in the chops as they dash frantically for the anchor or ship control.
Nothing beats the crack & explosion of a ship sailed out of bounds.

Only thing they're exploiting is your brain, not the game...
Quick ! Someone go warn Genghis Khan, Sun Tzu and Caesar they were wrong. The proper way to battle is to never surprise your ennemy. It is crucial that they expect everything you do.....
