as a 5 year player and 100 percent complete achievements and commendations except shrouded is there a way for a solo player 95% of the time to get nominated for the prestigious hat? Or is it just for the popular twitter fans.
How to get nominated for green hat as a solo player
it's a social media campaign so there will be a lot of the social game involved
but if you participate around the forums or other social areas people might at some point nominate you or select you or whatever they do
My personal opinion is things like that shouldn't be pursued because then the mission becomes service for self rather than service for the community/environment but that's just my personal view on that, it can often lead to a disconnect between a person and those they are trying to support, you are obviously free to pursue it if that is what you want to do.
@wolfmanbush alright cool most appreciated been trying to look around for help this is the first I have received.......Thanks man!

Just remember, it's just a thing. Everything you do matters even if it never goes public.
Think about the people in your life, the teachers, the mentors, the trainers, leaders, guardians, friends, family, random strangers that become something more. Rarely did the ones that left the most positive impact ever get public recognition for it. They did it to support you even if it didn't end up in a picture or a post. You now have the opportunity to leave that impact on others in the same way. The incredible reward of making something alright for someone even if it's just for a moment. Offering hope, inspiration, motivation, or just a few moments to listen. Everything you do matters and every day is an opportunity.
@wolfmanbush gotcha man sea has just been my favorite game since launch my knowledge of this game is top tier just love to be able to reap the rewards if not it's all good

Which is the number one reason they keep the actual requirements to Boatswain close to their chest.

@personalc0ffee Does getting snippy with mods help or hurt those odds do you think?
I think it would definitely hurt those odds.
The best way is to never ask, just be helpful. If I ran a forum anyone who asked to be a mod would be automatically disqualified. Not exactly the same....but you just asked

No worries I was just curious on how to get more involved as an xbox player i'm sure it's more difficult but i could be wrong
#BeMorePirate is really more of social notoriety, you either get nominated on Twitter by a lot of people that know you, or you have an amazing out-of-game talent that you can dedicate a project towards Sea of Thieves. Several IRL artists, roleplayers, extremely dedicated players that create loot art, etc. have been awarded the Hat of Unfeasibly Glorious Fame because they're known/appreciated enough in the community to also be extremely talented.
It won't hurt to try, but you definitely want your entries to be spectacular, something most players won't be bothered to attempt (even though someone won the hat by posing on an island while their boat is beached on the island).

It's like gardening
You find yourself some land. The forums, their sot discord server, etc
Clear out the weeds and rocks, the weeds and the rocks are the things that don't serve you, your goals, or others. Personal attacks, grudges, focus on social hierarchies, status
Enrich the land, this is purpose, service, dedication, vision, belief in others
Plant life, This is individual focus in the moment where you can offer yourself as a resource to a person, any person, for a specific reason based on the individual. That can range from a simple informed response to a question to a sentimental collection of thoughts that may be useful to another.
Water and sunlight, this is consistency, this is growth, this is showing up. This is dependability.
Time will go on and that old patch of earth becomes a source of sustenance for those in the area.
@xocoughox nah it's for streamers, mods of discords, people with SoT in their pfp or username/bio, and whoever gets the most likes/retweets. I think I've seen one person outside of all of these who has won it. It's pretty elitist and I had an argument with the social media guy over this too. Not out of jealousy but it was pretty obvious they were just picking SoT people instead of the average player.

to be fair people gotta have something to work with for vetting people, not to dismiss what you are saying here but if they don't have a good idea about how someone conducts themselves then they are just throwing out hats to people.
I personally avoid status stuff but it's pretty understandable that if they are gonna roll with it they gotta have a read on someone. It might not be the same read as you or I would have but it's still a process that makes sense for what they are doing.
Not gonna do them any good if they end up giving it to people that are out there doing things they shouldn't be doing with the hat on, by that I mean serious issues not just mild stuff.
@wolfmanbush I totally get where you're coming from and I see what you mean HOWEVER I keep an eye on every winner for the SoT Shots, the Gloves etc, and 99% of the time, it's a SoT person. Some people have won it up to 10 times and I wonder how that's even fair when average Joe, who's solo, can't even get one win.
Again, I'm not gonna get jelly over stuff I probably won't run, but it's the fact that social media people are encouraged to take part, then they just pick the obvious ones who'll win. Hell, some even aren't that good, but nope, SoT person = insta win.
Just rubs me the wrong way.

We've all been there, whether it's a classroom or on a field or in an office or in the warehouse, on a team, in a crew, online, whatever it may be
there are people that play the game, there are the socially rebellious, and there are people in the middle, lots of them get overlooked for the decency and consistency they offer, they aren't loud but they are ever so important even without the recognition
@tesiccl said in How to get nominated for green hat as a solo player:
@wolfmanbush agreed, be nice if some got recognised is my complaint.
all the best songs are written about them though
It isn't for the average player.
It is for community members that do extraordinary things that echo beyond the game.
It is for a select few that have risen to the occasion and surpassed their peers by doing something truly amazing that shines beyond the bounds of the game. As an example someone built a replica of a skeleton throne out of real wood.
That's what they are looking for, for that hat.

That (the bold) is the sentiment that leads many to rolling their eyes.
The community is full of artists and talent and passion surrounding the game. The ones that pull some numbers in one way or another are gonna get seen.
In no way does that make anyone picked undeserving but when people talk about the off-putting part of the elitism, that's what they are referencing.
They pick who they pick and they are entirely free to go about that at their discretion, it's not any different than a popularity contest, it's a cosmetic, the people picked didn't surpass any of the other people that are drawing and creating and roleplaying and doing all of the other things that people do around the community. They got picked for reward in an online campaign to generate engagement.
When someone does something big that really sticks out they have a circle of support around them, they are working together, shared contribution for a common goal even if there is a face of the operation. All the pieces around the face are necessary. Some have more social resources than others, it gives them more options. A hat for one fails to recognize the support system that go into the larger operations, which makes it possible and in a social media campaign it fails to find those that don't have the reach.

Well, that wasn't what I was going for.
I just mean players in the game that do things that really just stand out above the average player.
I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. :/

I don't think you or those involved in the process have ill intent
I do think there is a real attachment to social hierarchies in this community. From the partner program to the hat to their significant focus on content creators/twitch chats, status around forums and discord stuff. It's all pretty ingrained in the foundation of the community. It really just leads to a lot of cliquishness which leads to some division in a community that is already quite divided over play styles and preferences.
Tends to be worse in smaller communities as it's not as diluted by population and variety so it becomes a situation where participants just end up seeing the same group congratulate/reward each other over and over in one way or another.
Which is what a lot of the feedback about the different social media contests and competitions seems to be.

I criticize effects based on my opinion of its environmental impact but when it comes to personal opinion of people in this community and on these forums I tend to believe that they are wonderful existences, including yourself.

I really try my best since my unban.
I won my funny blue hat by teaching myself to play the Legend of the Veil final phase theme on a real-world concertina by ear. Took about 3 days of practice but I did it good enough for them to recognize it!

@wolfmanbush @XoCOUGHoX
I won the hat a few weeks back being a duo and creating a PirateLord/Reaper themed 3D printable Trinket. (Anamorphic perspective)
A really nice idea that I new was a high contender in winning the hat when the idea was pitched/forwarded to me. We took around 2 months to publish the work (A long period of putting it on hold)Like wolfman said, Exposure is definitely something that you want, and once ready publish it in whatever discords you are in so it gets a bit more attention then just posting it on twitter and call it a day where maybe only 10 people will see it is not the move.
You can also Join the SoTShot Discord so you can find plp that can help direct your project if you need a helping hand.
People like to use the ''popularity'' contest when it comes to these things, imo for the hat, I don't think you can make that excuse.
It makes you train your creativity, a bit of ''marketing'' skills in terms of exposure, and being a team player if you decide to do it in a group or with a friend. The biggest thing they are looking for is creativity that outshines what has been done already (The hard part). You can definitely win as a solo mind you.
And if I was to give another big piece of advice, it would be to do something Irl such as crafting, RATHER then in game such as a screenshot/video which has been done a lot. Theres probably like 50 video submissions every two weeks and ONE of those wins out of the 4 winners, not a good ratio for the amount of coordination and time that it takes to assemble a large group of people into.
Also showing your process from A-Z is also great to show how much work was put in. (A screenshot or two from starting-middle-to end)@klutchxking518 said in How to get nominated for green hat as a solo player:

That is awesome.
Old post, but it's isn't as hard to get it these days like it was at the start.
They throw them away like candy.
Even being featured in a BMP fan creation video for even a second gets you the hat. Even if in reality you didn't do anything at all outside of being present for the project and just piggybacking off the person putting in the actual creative work.
Shame to admit it, that's how I got mine, lucky enough to be involved in a video project and was an ''extra'' that took an hour of my time with a group. just to be recorded in short scene for 3 seconds.
It won alongside 3 other winners and I got my hat added to the account 2 weeks later.. Ask me which project it was, I don't even remember because of how un-memorable the whole process took lol.TO ME that's not very BMP worthy in my honest opinion in comparison to others that put in 100 of hours with actual good creative irl projects and still never got the hat...
If you tried hard enough you can get it, just join community's and look our for groups that are looking to do BMP and enter as many as you can.
