It saddens me I never see any player posted maps on the Buried Treasure board. I enjoyed being able to snag a custom made player Map and go see what they buried for me to find. I also really liked seeing that notice that someone out there dug up the stuff I hid around too. Its a shame that that system seems to be completely dead. I'd really like for RARE to find a better way to make it more appealing to players again.

and 75% of the price for sold treasure if someone else digs it up and delivers it (no emissary bonuses) and counting after a person leaves the serverThis allows people that produce quality loot but aren't as interested in always selling it to have an incentive to bury the good stuff
I don't sell treasure anymore but if I had what I suggested above I would bury some of the quality loot, which benefits everyone involved and keeps the content alive
@theonetruederp It's a shame it didn't seem to quite have the impact that it might have had, considering how often it was suggested around these parts.
I've started burying treasure recently, maybe you'll spot my name on the board one day 😉

When you bury treasure you get 100% of the treasure's value when you sign out. This was tested by one content creator by burying treasure, signing out, then immediately signing in and getting the message that someone dug it up, which was temporally impossible. That's when Rare admitted that no one actually has to dig up your treasure to get the gold.
If they want the board to be used, they need to offer incentive above basal value. When I'm sailing GH, I just bury all my OOS and MA loot because it's less effort and equal value. If they offered emissary multiplier per treasure, I'd collect and bury like treasure together. E.g., if I bury one or two skull I get their base value. If I bury three skulls I get their value as if sold by a grade two emissary. If I bury five skulls their value as if sold by grade three emissary, eight skulls is emissary grade four, and 13 skulls emissary grade five.
Maybe something more linear and not the Fibonacci sequence would be more balanced. For the most part I just hop on an island, fill my pockets, bury any treasure I find on that island, and mermaid back to my boat as I continue toward my destination. Generally speaking more rewards generates more participation.

Since when does the one that buries the treasure get gold for doing so? It is rep/renown/commendations as far as I know
@theonetruederp on their recent podcast they mentioned mixing new content with revamping old unused content. I suspect buried treasure would be ripe for this as never fully reached its full potential
@zig-zag-ltu kegs don't create maps, dunno about stronghold, think the intention is you'd bury normal treasure nearby and hope they dig the wrong spot
@hiradc Good point, never tried it out before and I only ever bury the strongold ones if there is no outpost nearby.
@hiradc Well I don't want to sound for certain, but given that this baby can sell for like 8k (with emissary) it would be a shame if it didn't. However, I am not sure as I always try to bury two things.
The other day I dug up a keg (can't recall which one) and as it emerged from the earth, it was already activated and went kaboom!
After I burried one yesterday, I received some 'Trickster' commendation. So I would be leaning towards it becoming as a deceiving X marks the spot, which will or might go boom once you dig it up. But can't confirm 100% at this point. If I don't forget will let you know here once I try it.

I personally would delegate ALL my selling, even if I got only half price, if it worked, not only seasonal progression (that is over day 3 of the new season for many).
Knowing Rare I bet this all happens in those famous stamps, where there are 30 people.

It is just proof that the customer doesn't know what they want until you give it to them.
The perfect pasta sauce.

Kegs dug up are trapped and ignite when you unearth them. You have to have multiple crew dig VERY fast to be able to get it up without it exploding. So just know that anytime you bury a keg, it goes into the trapped state so the next person that digs it up, it will ignite and explode on them.

Since the feature's inception IIRC. If they removed the gold bonus that's news to me.
People should correct me, you only get gold if you're still in the session. You get a rep message when you sign in again, but no gold. I think it's only seasonal rep too.
You bury treasure because you're a pirate. Or not.

Wait, you actually get gold if you're still in the session and someone digs your bury map up?

I try to bury a bunch of stuff on an island every time I play. I like giving people loot they wouldn't normally have access to since player map users are usually newer. Like burying the ashen winds skull with an ashen key and another choice item. Or athena stuff even.
I literally buried an ashen chest of legends a few months ago but whoever picked it up must have not wanted to go get a single x map in DR.
You are the reason I try to always clear acquired maps from players, even if I take them from their table. You never know what is buried.
You seem nice.
@crowedhunter said in Buried Treasure RIP:
@personalc0ffee On the other hand I have buried legendary kegs in DR on small islands by the shore to bait people into getting geyered since forum has alleged that that's a fun experience for them. So be careful.
But I always also leave other goodies when I do that bc I know it's prolly gonna hurt.
AHAHAHAHA

They need to change it so that when players post maps, instead of clearing them from the server when it resets, they all are saved to a sort of "map hub" and can be posted on any quest board on any server.
They also need to be like able to put them on all servers too not just a specific range. Like I believe if someone in the US West buries things, ya'll in the EU won't see it.

Im not in the eu, but thats the entire intent of what im saying, like a central server hub that just holds maps, and if a map is taken from 1 server, it can take a map from the hub and send it to literally any server anywhere! But as far as im aware, maps dont even spread across even other servers in the same stamp, its just 1 server, and when it shuts down, that map that some one took a lot of time to make, is just lost.
Like, i want to take the time to burry an entire vault on booty isle, but im not taking the time to do that if the map is most likely to be lost forever.

That's how it works, yes.
Which is a shame because if it was on all servers then the feature might get used more by players because they would feel someone has a chance to stumble on their buried goods.
People do use the feature but not near as much as I think they would if it was cross servers.
