Monkey Island tall tale

  • Ya'harr mateys, Avast!

I finally managed to get myself to complete pirates life to 100% and got the shanty and I cant even describe how happy I am to finally get it, that tune is now stuck in my head.

So I am hoping that this is already in plans by Rare, but also the journals in that tall tale indictated that Guybrush Threepwood is heading to Sea of Thieves...

I think it would be beyond amazing if we had one or several tall tales with a Monkey Island theme that could also allow us to unlock the theme song, the one that was playing in the secret area of Pirates life tall tale. And maybe some iconic cosmetics too.

To be honest with you, I really hope that this will be coming out for the anniversary. xD

"They say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"

P.s. If you guys never played those games, might wanna check them out, truly one of the best games out there from the 'Olden days. Or at least worth checking out the original soundtrack and the one made by Rare, very relaxing and it truly brings your heart, mind and imagination into a Caribbean setting.

  • That would indeed be somewhat of a dream ... maybe someday.

  • strictly speaking about activity they could probably get a boost noticeably above anything recent seasons have created if they were able to get deals done for monkey island and one piece content

The content itself would lead to a short term boost but bringing in truly new interest could create some longer term activity.

Pvp doesn't bring people in, it has who it has and it brought in some skill but nowhere near enough activity to change anything for the better long term

General SoT pve is short lived, too many issues around risk/reward to keep people

Adding the 2 I mentioned above could create new interest and new interest is something the game very much struggles with. They are two popular themes and common requests.

This game has a "been here forever" crowd and brand new players from gamepass marketing, a lot of the middle is gone and nothing around is creating a chain of activity in between the two main groups.

To grab large amounts of casual interest they need something popular and not so niche, like they did with potc

  • "The Captain" the Gold Hoarder speaks of in the Dark Brotherhood... could it be the scourge of the Tri-Island area, the Undead Pirate Captain LeChuck!?

(I 1000% support more Monkey Island in my already pretty Monkey-Island-esque Pirate Game. RARE please talk to Disney and Lucas Arts about this!)

  • This is a great suggestion.
My personal dream is to get to see Mêlée, Monkey, Scabb, Phatt, Booty and Dinky Islands in the 1990/91 version with "X marks the spot" puzzles for Gold Hoarders and MI1 and MI2 NPCs to deliver plants from Merchs.
I wouldn't like to see Guybrush or Elaine because I am affraid of my own expectations.
    ...
    what?!
    I want to dream too!

  • @captthreepwood Yeah would be amazing, my favourite one was from The Curse of Monkey Island - Skull island, the one shaped like a duck :)

But yeah honestly I think it would be a great addition to to Sea of Thieves, the whole lore of Monkey Island feels like Sea of Thieves, before Sea of Thieves. Flamenheart is a character straight out of that lore. Skelleton mobs, curses, Le Chuck would be a perfect antagonist, the Flying Welshman would make a friend with the Ferry Man...I could probably go on and on, I think I'll just go listen to the Soundtrack again and hope Rare will answer our prayers ^^

P.S. Have you guys tried the Return to Monkey island, is it any good, would you recommend it? I am personally not the biggest fan of the chosen art work and was hoping they would choose the direction that the Curse of Monkey island had.

  • It surly would be a mighty tale!

As much as I would LOVE this, I think "LeChuck" is already in the game : It's Flameheart. Similarities are way too many. I bet they developed him based on LeChuck

  • @zig-zag-ltu I did play RtMI. And I love it. Somehow, it continues the story from Monkey Island 2. There are only few mentions of MI3, MI4 and MI5 elements. This is because of the fact that everything want back to the original creator, Ron Gilbert. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

  • I would defo love more Monkey Island stuff in SoT.

  • @zig-zag-ltu would 100% recommend Return to Monkey Island (though I may be a tad biased).

All the charm and humour of the originals!

As an added bonus it is less than £20 on Steam or the MI collection (MI, LeChuck's Revenge(both Special Editions), Curse, Escape AND Return to Monkey Island) is only £25 ish currently!

As a super extra bonus....Return to Monkey Island is also available on Game Pass!

  • @triheadedmonkey I got the rest already, so it's just that one. Well I'll give it a go seems like you guys loved it.

Btw, would there be any value in replaying the old ones before launching the new one?

It all depends if you remember the plot and characters more or less....

The new one DOES reference and joke A LOT about what happened in the previous games, yeah...

Also good to know, except for a few jokes, cannonically the plot DIRECTLY follows the end of Monkey Island 2 : LeChuck's Revenge (lol that's the name of one of my sloops), so if you decide to replay the old ones you only have the first original 2 to play.

Enjoy !! I wish I could be in your shoes so I discover it again. It's GREAT !

I vaguely remember the first two, played them about the time when remasters came out. I remember the whole curse by heart, that innovative pirate song still amazes me, i stoll got shivers from trying to move around in the 3d adaptation and remember being stuck for a while on the tell tale ones with the French pirate doctor...what do you guys think about the curse, i feel its either love or hate from the most hardcore fans out there.

    This is correct.

  • Any reason to go back to the Sea of the Damned is a good reason!
