Variations. Cannon ammunition and sizes

  • Cannon sizes
Ideas I’m having here more are small cannons, big cannons, and normal-size cannons.

The idea I’m having here is that people can pick the type of cannons they would like to have. So on a sloop, they can pick having a large cannon for extra damage to ships.

The changes don't have to be too drastic just smaller cannons reload 30 percent faster than a normal but do like lv2-3 holes in a sea of thieves. Also, knockback will be decreased so as blunder bomb power and fire bomb power.

So as area damage to players.

Bigger cannons are the same thing as small cannons but the opposite.

The main issue of this mechanics is chain shot how would that fall in the stats of these weapons, I’m not too sure about big cannons maybe a slighter bigger hitbox but not too sure about that.

For small cannons it is easier to change the stats on the chain shot, on them they would do 2 mast damage to brigs and gallons and 1 to sloops.

I’m more wanting the people's idea on this personally I’m negative about it, makes things a bit complicated for the balancing I would feel like it causes more issues than anything. But different cannon seems like a cool idea to have

    Cannon ammo.

For cannon ammo, I like to introduce the old fashion hand grenades and a rework of the chain shot maybe a new magic cannonball and grapeshot.

For the old fashion grenade, it behaves like a blunder bomb but it explodes like a keg. You can throw it or load it into a cannon. For cannon, it explodes on impact but if you throw it, it rolls until the fuse of its ends.

The main idea I’m having of the hand grenade is more of a nuke cannon ball that does solid knockback damage and explodes does 2 medium-sized holes. But it takes longer for it to load into cannons and has only short-medium rang having bad accuracy. The explosion wouldn’t be crazy but it would be very noticeable. Payer damage would be around 10-50, 50 being maxed amount of damage. These bombs would behave differently on each ship.

Throwing hand grenades onto ships won’t damage anything except players.

These would be pretty rare items having a maximum of up to 1-3 per outpost. Not being able to buy anywhere.

    Chain shot and pole shot.

The idea I’m having here has long rang and short-range chain shots. Pole shot being more for far rang dealing 2 holes to brigs, gallons, and 1 to sloops.

The main reason this would be added is to avoid people sniping from afar and talking out the sails encouraging more closer interactions.

Grapeshot. Grape shots behave like blunder bombs but they can't go through ship walls. It is more focused on chip damage ranging from 1-5 damage having a total of 6-12 shots. I see this as useful in pve against skeletons and in certain scenarios in pvp. The only downside to this is that it would damage any crew members that are on board that ship. The point of this ammunition is more to kick people off of cannon spamming and helm or harpooners, yes it could be spam but it wouldn’t do much and be more annoying than anything else.

The new magic cannonball is more of an area of the boat being poisoned. The amount it covers will vary on the ship and would last around 10-20 seconds long doing 1-3 damage. The idea it takes a certain area away from the players on their ship not being able to remove with water as they would do with water. They can either wait for it to go away to tank the damage. This also can be used on land against skeletons but wouldn’t be too logical nonetheless it can be used like that.

I know some of this ammunition can poke at but overall I think it’s solid and can be part of the game.

  • Seeing this post and the other one where you talk about weapons and their differences, I admit that I find the idea interesting, I like variety, but I don't imagine this kind of thing in Sea of Thieves. Despite being a complex game in many ways, what makes this game unique is the simplicity of things.

  • i see cannon sizes as complex but adding ammunition like grape shot or grenades wouldn't feel complex or anything. There is a difference between being simple then just not having anything. I like view it as a ice-cream , right now sea of thieves looking like plain vanilla for its pvp i just want maybe 2 scoops of chocolate with vanilla and some chocolate sprinkles.

  • they can pick having a large cannon for extra damage to ships.

So why would anyone ever pick another cannon than? extra dmg, if every ship picked this than it just be normal damage since everyone is doing it.

    We have similar already.

  • @burnbacon The Idea im having be hide it is large cannons would be slower. yes maybe everyone would pick larger cannons but there might be that few that just main the smaller cannons or do straight up normal. Im not to sure if you read my stats but ill empathize it more for you. normal cannons have a reload speed of around 2 seconds. The large cannon would have maybe 3 or 4 depending on how much of a difference you want between them. it could be larger cannons do higher damage to larger knockback , or more powerful blunder bombs and fire bombs. Small cannons could have a reload speed of 1.5 but smaller knockback damage and hull damage. I was more splurging the idea out see how people would treat this idea. I dont actually see this idea being in sea of thieves but i like to imagine such diversity and layers in a game it really , adds strategy , makes players actually take note of players seeing what they are going up against. I relish this thought processing in a game.
