I know we already have controller only servers and crossplay servers. However, this does not allow pc players playing on controller to play on controller only servers which makes it unfair for those players including me. I think that matchmaking preferences should be input based instead of platform based.
Input Based Matchmaking
@dragonborn12940 This is as it should be, while the mouse versus controller is the same as clicker versus turner the keyboard is also an advantage to a lesser extent.
Also there is nothing preventing a player who has a controller hooked up from joining controller only and then putting the controller down and using the mouse.
Controller players and xbox players are pretty darn skilled when they focus entirely on pvp. A lot of the skilled xbox players join in on crossplay. Lots of talented controller uses out there
I think it should stay as is because the benefit of how it exists is it's supportive for xbox pvers that often have longer load times and other game performance issues on top of the gap between m/k and controller

You can't do this on PC.
Must be an Xbox thing.

Meh... I'd rather see Rare go the other direction and find a way to eliminate the division of the playerbase.
Why do we need the Xbox+Controller only servers? Fix the answer(s) to that question and make it one playerbase instead of 2.
That is way easier said than done. The mouse is a much more accurate device, a person has to just point and click. The Controller slowly moves the aim point towards the spot the player intends. They would have to severely limit mouse movement which would feel really clunky.
It is not by accident that computers ended up with mice instead of joysticks.

Looks at games like Halo Infinite and COD Warzone where Controller is actually the meta compared to KBM...
Are you saying that a controller aim assist would negate the need for xbox+controller servers?
If so...controller aim assist isn't that farfetched...like at all...
@sweetsandman No, aim assist is just one small part, there are dozens of issues.
Plus the PC side is a cesspool of cheats, no one wants to deal with that on Xbox. Controller only servers are like a different game.

I asked what the reasons are and you only eluded to the typical KBM advantages (which can be squashed with a controller aim assist).
What are the other reasons that Xbox+Controller servers need to exist?
I don't buy the "loading times" argument at all.
1). buy an SSD and problem is mostly solved.
2). The min PC specs are worse than that of an OG xbox One. There's people playing on laptops with worse specs than an Xbox One.So...what else is it? What besides Aim and maybe performance are the reasons that Xbox+Controller servers need to exist?
I'm going to leave the cheaters argument alone for the time being as that's not really a reason that those servers need to exist IMO.
@sweetsandman Honestly, you should try it out, the difference is night and day. I don't have time to list it, especially since this is not even on the devs radar.

Try what out? Playing on Xbox+Controller servers?
Here's what I've played on through the years...
OG Xbox One ➡ OG Xbox One with SSD ➡ Xbox One X with SSD ➡ Xbox Series X (current)
All of which I have played on Xbox+Controller servers in some capacity...In Season 8, on my Series X, I mostly on open servers, but have dabbled in Xbox+Controller servers as well.
What do you want me to specifically try out?
I'm just trying to figure out - aside from aim advantages - why Xbox+Controller servers are so important?
@foambreaker Honestly, THIS. I used to only play crossplay servers. Because thats what Arena was, and thats how you get better at the game. But the cheating/ hacks that have been running rampant in SoT as of this update has just made pc servers not even worth it to me, so I've switched to playing in xbox only servers.

Except that was one of the main reasons that Microsoft kept Live insulated from PC games from the original Xbox through the 360 and much of the One's lifespan. It was one of the main marketing lines that promoted why it was a valuable service. If anything that is the most important reason why such an option should exist, to promote fair gameplay on consoles without fear of cheaters or hackers.
@dlchief58 While I can appreciate that, even Microsoft's premier FPS (Halo) doesn't have cross play preferences. It's also fair to say that Microsoft has embraced PC gameplay more than ever and certainly more than back in the Xbox360 days...
If cheaters is the only legitimate reason to keep crossplay-off servers, that's pretty embarrassing.
Also, let's not act like there aren't ways to circumvent the matchmaking preferences and play PC+KBM on Xbox+Controller servers.
@DragonBorn12940 I play with Controller in PC and I really would like the idea of playing with other controller players, so I support this idea!
I have seen a lot of people arguing against this, claiming that one could "unplug" the controller and, "eureka", you can play with Keyboard and Mouse.
However, from my point of view, I think that it'd be easy to make it a necessity (after all, you have built this game, I guess you can find a solution for this lil'problem, right?), a lot of games, multiplayer or not, have this action ("Please, plug the controller!"/ "Controller disconnected").
It's true that lately, with the cheating problem, it would be unfair to Xbox users, but when the cheating problem dissappears, I think there shouldn't be too much obstacles. That said, I PERSONALLY find that other "problems" some people have, belongs to the old Xbox Vs. PC war.
So yeah! I support this idea, I'd love to see it in a future.
@lopasi It's not a matter of connecting or disconnecting, the person simply has to put the controller on the desk and use the mouse.
If you say "disable the mouse" 10000 engineers at Rare and Microsoft will let out a long sigh and many of them will have nightmares :)
@foambreaker It's an interesting situation; however, I think it could be worked so the game ignores input from Keyboard and Mouse, so it only reads from the controller.
The same way as co-op games asign different keys to different players, this could be similar, disabling any Keyboard/Mouse interaction (reading input) that affects the gameplay when this option is enabled.
This way the player couldn't "cheat" as you said, as the game would ignore some keys (like mouse, WASD or others).I heard that Fortnite has servers/matchmaking based on the input (Don't know what method they use), so in this case it wouldn't be inventing the wheel.
