Ran into my first cheater.. on my team

  • Wow, played a game last night and one of our crew mates was teleporting to other ships and single handedly taking them down, on top of that he was able to repair Fire and fix holes / remove water from our boat instantly and he wasn't anywhere near our boat.. I'm really hoping this isn't common because seeing that really made me not want to play as much as I have been lately..

So is this just a "Rare' occasion or is this happening alot?

  • The really flagrant ones using insta-repair and teleporting and are fairly rare in my experience. I encounter likely aimbotters/wallhackers in maybe 1:10 matches of the HG, though. Difficult to prove, but fresh accounts with near perfect aim are a good tell.

    Did you report them?
    And if not, why not?

  • @smuntface how? I didn't find a report system in the game

Probably the usual, because you need clear evidence of cheating, and without having set up to record your session, you don't have that.

  • @sirblaz3d

This is another known problem must new players have no idea where to start and it's a difficult process. Broken one that player you played with more than likely already reported has another alt account going.

Here is Rare broken report system still report if you have evidence meaning gamer tag, Video clip upload to YouTube submit link. Yes, this is a process, yes you might be thinking I, rather be doing something better with my time like I, don't know play the game.

The truth is you need to report so maybe just Maybe Rare see all the reports finally does something about it rather than nothing.

    Genral Report:
Submit Gamer Tag / Tag's Date/Time/Time zone. Description what happened, and how many times. Additional information other crew members Tags, Profile screen shots. If your crew captured any video evidence. Please encourage them to file a report as well if they don't plan to see if you can submit their evidence as well.

    Report also to Xbox:

Report if any self-harm or death threats are communicated. Hacking in the US also a Federal Crime if you suspect hacker accesses someone's computer system without such consent or authority.

  • As a developer I have to wonder are they taking any steps at all to protect the data stream?

  • If only Devs added a separate choice option on main menu called:

    Current session-Encountered players(this session)/Statistics/Milestones?
    Encountered players - report a player/commend a player/send message
    Report a player - Griefing/Cheating/Anti social behaviour/Foul language

I would assume the game could have a some kind of pre recording going and if you report, the last few minutes would be recorded and sent to developers for a review.

Alternatively, what if the developers introduced a function like in CS where you could review the cases yourself. To gain the ability to review them, you would have to be at least a pirate legend and after reviewing the session you would be able to pass judgment choosing the same options for reporting available, without indication for what it was reported. This would work towards earning rewards similar to insider/emissary ledger. If the community passes the verdict, the players participating would contribute towards that reward. If the verdict against the player would be positive (as per original report) the footage would be sent to developers.

So if we had some automatic anti cheat, plus this feature, the game would become a lot more clean and enjoyable for everyone.

  • @ihiate fresh account with near perfect aim I wouldn't take as proof and certainly wouldn't report. You can quite easily have alt accounts. I think a factor would be whether they have game sense that demonstrates proper experience. If they have really bad movement and don't know their way around a ship maybe but even then you get players with lots of fps experience who do have great aim

  • keelhaul!!!!

but fresh accounts with near perfect aim are a good tell.

alt accounts in general it's not a great indicator

alt account that has a name that adds intent to behavior is a better indicator

The origins of "alt account bad" came from streamers/partners which is partly understandable, they are trying to protect themselves

like everything it became an overused excuse to avoid skilled combat and an excuse for losing in combat, there are people that use alts in this game for many reasons, including reasons that aren't malicious, and plenty of pvpers use alts, including partners and other streamers.

Especially in a low population/repeat fighting bit of content like season 8. People may want anonymity/privacy. Tough to make those calls without obvious intent names because it's something legit and malicious players both do.

  • @wolfmanbush with names like imbackrare and redbeardedrare, I'm pretty confident they were alt accounts. Of cheaters. (those are slightly altered names of a couple of cheaters I've encountered, not witch hunting).

yeah those remove benefit of the doubt from themselves as I mentioned in my post

for whatever reason a lot of them have SoT in the name as well which is an interesting coincidence considering how dull it is as a detail.
