How many ships does it take to earn the curses and is it worth it?

  • So I've seen different numbers ranging from 150 to 300+ ship sinks and I want to know if we have a certain number.

Now 2 months in and is it still worth grinding, I don't want to repeat my last post but it feels like a punishment especially when you don't have friends to play with because they all got scared away.

And I know people say go do something else but the problem (for me at least) is that I've done everything else I wanted. And the worst part is I want to improve at PvP but it feels impossible when I either get someone who has no idea what they are doing or getting destroyed before the game finishes loading.

  • @halogamer2005 alot of the numbers for how many ship sinks are rough because streaks change the game dramatically.

  • more loss rep and they finally got rid of out of bounds sabotage

sure, unless it really bugs you while doing it, then no

just depends how much you want it, if you truly intend to use the curses sure, if it's just a thing to get dusty in the chest, no

  • Well, the answer would be, "many, with an if", or "a few, with a but".

It depends entirely on how many consistent sinks you can get, if you play passive or invade, if they have flags to turn in, what streak you get, and if you turn in the glass or get sunk before you do.

As for if it is worth it, its absolutely worth it if you really want the curses, or even more so if you are in it for the fun. As for doing it without friends, if you are solo, it will only pair you with another solo... This doesnt mean an easier fight however, but for some, the idea of only fighting another solo is comforting.

  • I only play solo. Took about 170 sinks and no its not really worth it.

  • For the sake of sanity you might only want to play during gold and glory weekends. The xmas event which was just 1 more reason not to spend time with family was amazing. The hourglass never felt so good. Sadly though gold and glory seems to be rare this season but they are going insane on the twitch drops lately to try and compensate for no updates

  • On average, it’s ~160 sinks. Assuming some are streaks, you’re selling flags, etc. If you go perfect you can do it in like 100.

Which, contrary to all the other things that people are saying, isn’t all that bad to be honest. Legendary Sea Dog in Arena was a flat 240 wins. You get your curse in a little over half of that. It’ll take a few months if you dedicate your time to it.

Is it worth it? For me it is. Having a cool curse, a lair to open up and show to people, especially the Guardians one… I love checking the barrels in the extended area for cursed cannonballs, and selling fish to Merrick. But hanging out in the Reaper’s Lair is great fun after you’ve been done selling your loot with friends, just open it up and go party.

    Go for it.

  • Did it roughly 160 wins about 200+ overall matches. Was it worth it? Was for me had a great time getting there and plan on having a great time for the foreseeable future. Still have a ways to go to hit 1000

  • @halogamer2005

The problem is that there is no certain number. If you win against a ship and immediately cash in then it will take more ships sunk.

With each victory in a streak, you get more hourglass value and more reputation.

The values are 10,000 for 1 victory

The values are 12,000 for 2 victories

The values are 14,000 for 3 victories

The values are 16,000 for 4 victories

The values are 20,000 for 5+ victories

Once you hit a grade 4 streak, it’s wise to lower your hourglass and start fresh. If you can get up to a tier 4 streak every time and turn in, I’d say it’s about 100 to 150 ships sunk.

As for if it’s worth it, that’s a personal preference. It was worth it for me to get the base curses but it’s not worth the grind to 1000. I may consider it but I won’t be as active once I complete all the commendations for the two new factions

  • If you enjoy the hour glass pvp it is absolutely worth doing it. Doing something in your free time you don't enjoy for a hundred or more hours is not.

    As Solo Slooper:

If you get that 50/50 WL ratio a wise would be settle to sell at 2 strikes as solo i found it most consistent and fastest way to lvl up if you are not sure than you can secure 4 stikes.

Im 91 and 1/4 so i can say the jurney so far is good one as it hads its bumps, and heaps of negative emotions (bucket reg, cannon reloading bug, lag spikes you know) but at the other hand i meet lot of fine folks and polished my pvp skills earn some cash.

Edit: Still its not that blast as organic pvp.

Edit 2: You find that you struggle more with game perfomance more than with oponent and that is more frustrating than eny lost match.

I just got longbeard on start of battle out of blue xD

  • My stats are as follow (got both curses) :

About 185-190 wins for one curse (with a 50/50 winrate, so you can add about the same number of losses)

That's if you do not do streaks. (I know I should have, but I didn't feel confident enough, wanting to cash in every XP possible without risking losing some.)

Was it worth the time and efforts ?
For about 5 minutes it feels great.
Then you realise you wasted 2 months of your life for this "achivement" that felt like luck/bad luck 50% of the time, that this isn't over, and that there are other video games out there that actually respect their player's time and investment (yeah, sorry Sea of Thieves, this was too much for me this time, I'm not gonna play as regularly I'm afraid).

To be fair, the improvement in my skill is HUGE. But I still won't be able to beat animation-cancel sweats (which I see as an exploit, thus I don't want to learn, thus frustrating to play against). But I did everything solo mostly, I doubt only bilging on a galley would have had me improve that much.

In a nutshell : WAY too much of a pain in retrospective for a video game reward
