One of the biggest criticism about the game is that combat and weapons are too basic. I propose the idea of daggers.
To make this work, a change has to be made to the current sword. This change would require the sword to stagger enemies again.
Now you are all probably thinking "you just want to make the sword OP again", and no, that's not the reason why, hear me out. With this change, daggers would now work the way the sword does, when an enemy is hit, they do not stagger, but daggers are slightly faster than a sword, and....
They can be thrown! And if it wasn't obvious, yes, they do have an ammo count, 5 just like bullets. This requires wit and good strategy as you could basically throw all your daggers, but then, not only would you not have any ammo left, but you would also be left... well... dagger-less, you know? By throwing all but 1 dagger out, players have more ammunition to throw but they are left with half the attack power/speed. Furthermore, dagger throws have the greatest weapon drop off when compared to the guns. They are meant to be used as a close/mid combat weapon, meant for players who want to be quick on their feet, agile, and move about while being slightly stealthy.
Can the daggers be picked up? Sure, any player may be able to pick up a thrown dagger, but the max they can hold is 3 (Except those who picked daggers as weapons, in which case it would be 5) and they may only be used to throw (Except those who selected dagger). The only way to get more daggers is from the ammo box, in which case all previous thrown daggers will disappear. Npc enemies and portable ammo boxes will not drop dagger ammunition. If thrown into the water, daggers float upwards, but if they land too high up on an unreachable wall then best bet is to go back to the ship's ammo box and refill.
How does this stack against the sword? Well daggers can be blocked, but if they are thrown, they can still do damage. Daggers themselves can not be used to block however (Block button on sword would be the throwing button for daggers). Daggers also have increased combo attacks, 5 attacks as opposed to 3 with the sword, and within the same timespan as the sword. However, they also deal slightly less damage per combo attack as a result of the increased attack combo. The daggers charge attack will charge faster than the sword and deal more damage if it's done on an enemies back, but the lunge forward is roughly 1 or 2 steps (Animation can be using both daggers in an x shape as the player makes a step forward, before returning to the resting position. Missing the charge attack will put you in a similar state as the sword.
So to summarize, daggers will have a 5 combo attack, a charged attack that will deal higher back stab damage (Potentially 1 shot? Idk, leave me alone, I can't deal with the pressure, why do I have to do all the work? You figure it out!), can be thrown, and can only be ammo replenished at the ship's ammo box.
Things that will ultimately need to be tweaked:
- Dagger ammunition when selected as a weapon will range between 3-5
- Dagger throw damage vs slashing damage
- Dagger slashing speed
- Dagger back stab damage
Alright, Sea mutts! You all know how this works, Yay or Nay?
