Well we gotta give some leniency to Rare. They have never done any online games, especially online games with matchmaking. They are testing new waters as developers and given their track record they are doing it rather well.

I doubt they will manage to create a fool proof anti cheat and manually ban everyone cheating and if this problem gets bigger, they will most likely have to spend money to get it done. So expect cool and wanted cosmetics in pirate emporium in that case :)

But if you look at other games done by developers with years of experience, who only specialize in competitive games basically, even they have problems that they cant solve permanently.

So if Rare continues their path of Advertisement to attract more and more fresh meat over content and polishing what they have, they might shoot themselves in the foot and blow their whole leg off that keeps them standing.

Agreed. I have no game development experience at all, other than creating games on my Amstrad CPC 464 which I did by simply typing in a listing from the manual and Amstrad Action magazine. Oh what awesome days they were! :-)

But yes, it can't be easy trying to fight cheaters and create an anti-cheat software that is impervious to cheaters and hackers etc. I am sure many online games have anti-cheat in them yet still have cheating taking place. Thugh, of course, that's no excuse not to have one. But at the end of the day we have to trust Rare to get on top of it as and when they can.

If I was leading the operation in a season 8 world I'd let people get nice and comfortable for a few months and gather that data quietly even if people were accusing incompetence on my part.

Then do a large ban. Not only does this hit a lot of the issue at once it sends a message that cheats aren't safe and that the bans and the process will be unpredictable, this keeps a lot of the "everyone else is doing it, I'll be fine" type of cheating to a minimum going forward.

They don't serve anyone other than people cheating by being predictable. If they want to hit main accounts they gotta let people feel arrogant about it so they peacock on their mains.

I wouldn't qualify that as "rather well", given the number of posts about cheaters and/or how reporting them feels like a waste of time because eithher nothing is done or we have no further info.

I would even go as far as to say it is actually "pretty bad"

But don't worry, I have a solution : hire people that specializes in this. They exist.

That's typically said by people that don't consistently gather and report evidence.

The people that report the obvious stuff typically are pretty satisfied with how it goes because evidence ='s bans and Rare will respond to them to tell them that is what happened.

When one side of a view is outraged and those that disagree are not as fired up about something it creates a public situation where it appears that something leans overwhelmingly one way.

There are a lot of people that report and find it a satisfactory experience, there are a lot of people like me that have played a long time and a lot of time and have experienced minimal obvious cheating, the difference is that they get exhausted by the conversations and avoid them as it wears people down on that side of the conversation.

It's not something that leads to a lot of anything productive, it's guess vs guess. I engage in it because someone's gotta, there needs to be some sort of reasonable counter to it and since I post a lot and have a significant amount of experience it might as well be me. Others just get burnt out on it when they share a similar view to the situation as someone like me, so it appears like it leans more one way than it does.

Its eating the game's reputation, I dont think that any "proof" will budge you from your unreasonable stance.

It's not an insane amount of evidence, it's evidence of cheating existing within content that has people having hundreds and hundreds+ of on demand fights in a couple months of time

It's also content that has people running into the same people over and over from lack of overall interest in the content so a lot of those encounters will be repeat encounters and repeat cheaters

I'm sure Rare are very aware of it.
And I'm sure they are working on a fix if possible.
But it's not the first time this game has suffered. Early in year 1 there was a huge wave of bans for a cheat being used. (PC Platform)

I can understand them not wanting to advertise how broken the system currently is. It's not going to keep people playing if they do speak up and acknowledge the issue, they have also probably issued gagging orders to partners too.

Anyway.. Sorry for all of you suffering from this.. I'd struggle to find the desire to log in.

it's all good, I don't hold anything against people here.

it's just as easy to find agreement with nearly everyone as it is to find disagreement, disagreement is just a temporary focus overall, I see disagreement as helpful and necessary on most topics, even if I strongly disagree with people on something the open conversation is an opportunity and resource for people to support and counter based on their opinions, which others can use to form opinions of their own while incorporating their own experience.

@kelz8607 It is pretty bad, you saw my videos 2 comments up which I now deleted, showing those exact hacks.
Insta repair, and I haven't posted the one with speed/fly hacks appearing on your crows nest to troll.

Hacking has gotten so bad, Spawning supplies, removing supps from your OWN pirate and ship barrels, flipping your ship, god mode.

Sea of Thieves is truly a sandbox game, for hackers... Do what they want xd

I agree with you 100%. Sometimes people cheat with intentions in bringing awareness to a problem. Sometimes its for selfish reasons like they suck at the game and they think everyone is hacking who kills them and than they turn to hacking to have a chance at winning. Sometimes people hack just for evil intentions and watching the world burn. Same reasons why people do any other crime in the world. Its terrible tho, gonna kill this game, the community will abandon it just like all the others that got over run by cheaters. I did see your videos by the way. id post mine but i have no idea how to remove the cheaters names. Not trying to make these people internet famous..

I totally am not playing this game anymore til something is done. I do not want my account effected by a cheater framing me. Yesterday was a wake up call.

people make mistakes and they aren't bad people for making mistakes but there is no "I'm cheating to bring awareness or to prove a point"

Cheating is cheating. It's a no-no and there is no justification for subjecting others and a community to it.

That's a part of the problem with people always saying it's so easy to do and find and people don't get banned, it's setting people up to make those mistakes and to try to justify those mistakes

They asked what do they want.. I replied a few reasons why some people cheat in games they can assume what they want out of it from there. I'm not trying to say cheaters are right for it by any means.. Your mindset is frustrating, its like your dont view the world like everyone else. A persons reasons for doing bad things dont mean they are accepted or given a free pass cause they have reasons.. and I didnt claim to believe they was good people for there reasons, or am i accepting of the behavior as a result for understanding there point of view. Understanding your enemy is part of defeating them.

Seriously though, You need to stop, every time someone says something you come in and challenge everything they say. literally 99% of your comments have been challenging others. if your not talking about a cheater experience you had recently why are you even in this comment section?

I agree with people regularly just like I disagree with people regularly, depending on the topic and that reflects in my post history.

I find the last part of your post to be a significant part of the issue, people wanting to be in a bubble of thought and taking in anecdotes that only fit their narratives. I have a very significant amount of experience in this game and random combat encounters against pvpers specifically, it's relevant experience.

People are free to disagree and share their own experiences but I will also share mine and contribute with my opinions while abiding by the rules of the site.
