At last! Some good news shared on the video below, it seems that alliances for PVP will get basically half the rep since only the invaded player gets REP.
A big step in the right direction!
Thanks Rare!

Quite a few QoL changes to PvP tomorrow. The alliance PvP fixing is just one. Getting rep when sailed out of bounds is a huge one as well. Finally that board and sail meta will give the losers something for their time.
But I guess this means no more organic 3rd partying. Or, people still will but it’ll be the people who just want to do it for fun and get no reward from it.
Plenty of nice changes to be honest, but im glad this alliance stuff is going away, because im sure most are just farming rep and this ruins the enjoyment out of other players.
the issue will be lack of overall interest in the content
they made a lot of necessary improvements and that's great
the out of bounds rep thing needed to happen much earlier to keep people around, it was MUCH more of a priority than nerfing blunderbombs
the low interest in the content is still going to have a lot of the same fights and repeat fighting after the first week (and probably during the first week), it'll help quality of life for those that stuck around which is great but there is no momentum for the content. Need lots of inexperienced interest.
Great changes but they gotta figure out a way to get in there earlier in a season for the most important changes to save interest imo.
Season 7 needed them to get in earlier to make saving cosmetics free until the issues were fixed.
Season 8 needed rep for out of bounds at the bare minimum, quickly
These aren't big or complicated changes but have significant impact on qol for the season.
There is a difference between never-gonna-make-them-happy type of feedback and feedback that is clearly requesting specific support for a specific problem, that was putting too much weight on inexperienced fighters and it was a bad look for the pvp content to have people intentionally doing that to other people for 2 months of the season, the most inexperienced participants being most subjected to it.
I agree, but it basically lowers the rep by half so its not that effective anymore.
It will still happen but the reward is a little bit crapy now.
@oldreclaimer much less than half, if they were doing max 4 ship alliance they now only get xp for 1 in 4 fights assuming they win all.
I was interested to see them address this. Its certainly one of the most vocalised concerns but I suspect it made up for such a low %of actual encounters its not going to massively impact anyone other than the people doing the ambushes. I've come across one server alliance in all my fights and had one brig fight where they had extra sloop allianced with them (won both and actually kinda fun so I have mixed feelings)
Even better then!
I´ve lost streaks more than a few times to 2 and 3 boats, specially playing logo its very very hard to take on a sloop+brig or galleon specially since we are confined to the battle zone.
@oldreclaimer yeah you basically have to try and isolate and concentrate on weaker ships first. For server alliance me and duo sunk a solo sloop then another ship invaded in so it was 2v3
@oldreclaimer My new plan when I see an hourglass match on the map will be to team up with the enemy ship to sink my own faction’s ship, then sink the enemy ship as they’ll no longer be considered an Invader.
It’s dirty work but I gotta get my XP
Same matchmaking battles.
sounds fine to me.
Rep increase for losing
Meh...
More PvP battle areas.
I never understood this as a Defender, im always in a different battle area/zone
"fixed" alliances no longer sharing. Only the two ships will get rewards.
Well that all sounds good on paper, but wont fix or stop. Now were gonna be facing more alliances with crews "helping" smaller crews win faster.
Out of bounds now grants Rep.
Well...kids if you dont feel like fighting, just sail our of bounds. You still get rep....yeeee...
Another exploit patched.
woopee?
New Adventure.
Store stuff
Frankly. Besides the more matching against ANY ship regardless of faction. Im still gonna continue to see people posting "I hate alliances"

My question is, how did they implement this? And if a Guardian finds a Servant "in the wild," will the winner still get allegiance, or is this entirely arena based now?

Not all battles are Invader vs Defender, two diving ships may find themselves fighting each other - they end up in those battle areas.

That might be true, it will also give rep to people who are steered by their opponents out of bounds or those who don't return quick enough from the Ferry &c while their ship is sailing towards the border.

I'd say 90 % of my fights are Invader vs Invader. Rarely I invade someone.
How can you tell?

Bad advice.
Anchor and let the other ship sink you. It's faster and you can have a chat
@wolfmanbush I was confused by out of bounds not giving rep in the first place tbh, I understand scuttling not giving any ofc, but that's something that has to be a conscious decision of the crew voting on it. Sailing out of bounds, however, can be forced by the opposing side, and I've been on the recieving edge of it a few times. It makes sense to do that if you're fighting another solo sloop or run out of resources, but the main problem to me is that there's toxic players who think it's funny to deprive their opponents of the tiny sliver of loss allegiance, just because they're not good enough to stop them.
And ofc while players can just rush OOB to get a fast sink to farm losses, they still have to actually sail over to the edge lol. Hell, I've been in matches where a boat sinks -way- faster than it would've taken to go OOB, either due to the other ship focusing too much on offense instead of repairs or sinking on purpose. It just seems silly to me, and I hope the devs realize how silly it was in hindsight.
@paparug420 Invader vs Invader happens in 6 locations (50 since today's update), ships start facing each other, full sails. When you Invade someone, they are usually parked somewhere, sails up, near the outpost.
Though this feature is nice to avoid the alliances it seems to be getting too far. Now it seems that you don't get xp if you run on your server against a ship from the other faction even if both of you are not in a match. Which kind of remove the interest of marking a champion ship on the map for everyone to see since you don't have any interest in hunting them

I was really afraid this would happen.
