Sea of Thieves Needs To Die!

  • It's time for SoT to be retired .

    Stop support for it.

Remove PvP and turn SoT into a PvE only game where people can play a nice sailing game and fight skelies in peace.

Of course I don't want THIS to happen until they are ready to release SoT 2:

    • NEXT GEN only
    • New larger map, with more biomes and complex environments and islands
    • More ships per server
    • More ship types
    • Complete PvP overhaul with new combat mechanics (hand to hand especially)
    • New and improved enemy AI
    • Better graphics and animations
    • New code fixing existing issues that are unsolvable (e.g hit reg, black screens)

I absolutely love SoT and the thought of a new and improved game is just too good. Destiny 2 did it. Overwatch 2. Warzone 2. Games that aren't dramatically different from their predecessors but are undeniably improved.

We don't need a completely brand new game.

Just make everything bigger and better and continue to improve upon the things the original game did right!

Is anyone else ready for SoT to be upgraded and taken to another level?

  • I have to say, I like the game just as it is. 🙂

  • Man this title... I like everything about the game, except cheaters problem. But yea, it feels like engine keeps programmers and designers from creating better experience.

    How about no?

  • @paparug420 "Is anyone else ready for SoT to be upgraded and taken to another level?"

    Poisonous jelly fish?

  • Counter proposal. If you dont like the game you are playing, dont play it. Theres no reason to try and shut something down that people enjoy just because you dont, other than for ones own selfish or spiteful reasoning just because they dont like pvp or how the game looks. Rare wont change the entire game just to suit your desire alone, and they are steadfast in their stance about pvpve even if a larger number of players request pve only.

In other words... Let people enjoy things, and if you dont enjoy those things, you arnt forced to do something you dont like!

  • @paparug420 SoT had a 10 year plan when it was released in 2018. Microsoft released the Series X|S in 2020.

If SoT runs 10 years that sunsets it in 2028.
The xbox one came out in 11/2013 (7 year life)
The xbox 360 came out in 11/2005 (8 year life cycle)

When you say next gen only. I hope you are referring to what's after the series x. The current gen doesn't need an upgrade.

  • @captain-coel sagte in Sea of Thieves Needs To Die!:

The current gen doesn't need an upgrade.

In fact! The current gen has an upgrade!

  • So we can all grow old together waiting for the release date to stop being pushed out over years of time?

I have megs to hunt and skelly ships to sink before I gotta name my sloop AARP.

  • @pumpa-cat mee too 👌

    March 9, 2023 Skull & Bones. Enjoy.

I absolutely love SoT and the thought of a new and improved game is just too good. Destiny 2 did it. Overwatch 2. Warzone 2.

Yet here you are asking for it too Die...
and come on... Destiny 2 ruined itself. Overwatch 2....Dont get me started. and Warzone 2....yeah nobody likes it.

Just make everything bigger and better and continue to improve upon the things the original game did right!

But they are..improving the game for the better and continues to grow. The game is nearly 100% different from Day 1

Man this title... I like everything about the game, except cheaters problem. But yea, it feels like engine keeps programmers and designers from creating better experience.

I heard its not so much the engine (its unreal engine after all), but the forced xbox old gen support.
The game was created for the game pass on old xbox, and it needs to be able to still run properly on that.
That is what keeps the game from developing properly, as far as I have heard.

  • We don't need a completely brand new game.

But... that's literally what you just suggested. Make current SoT a completely different game and then make a completely new game.

Personally, I like SoT how it is. (Obviously not the bugs and broken servers/ PvP)

  • Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love SoT, easily my favourite game of all time and I've been gaming since the 2600

I love the PvP aspect, makes me feel like an actual sailor might have felt on the seas during those times. Watchful and vigilant because a hostile ship could be anywhere at anytime.

But visiting islands and them essentially being empty, devoid of life, except for a pig or snake here and there leaves me wanting and wishing for more.

I dive beneath the waves and the oceans are empty.

The game HAS to perform on hardware released 10 years ago. It's exciting to think of what the future could entail for SoT if a sequel was able to expand and improve on what already exists WITHOUT having to cater to older hardware.

  • If they aren't capable of fixing the issues in this game what makes you think they could fix it by slapping a 2 on a new game? Ironic that you mention Overwatch2 which was just an obvious cash grab. Slap a 2 on the same old game and just change the monetization method from loot boxes to season passes. I mean it worked brilliantly in getting a ton of players to come back to a dead game for a very short period of time. One of the biggest things of Overwatch2 was supposed to be PvE mode which didn't make the cut. Overwatch was the 1st Blizzard game I didn't buy because it didn't have a campaign mode. As someone who hates PvP and competitive games the only interest I had in warcraft, starcraft, world of warcraft, was the story. Heck without PvE servers millions of people never even would have bothered with WoW.

Just love how everyone thinks slapping a 2 on something would immediately make it better. Though I would say if they were going to do something as disrespectful as captaincy ignoring all your past progress that would be something to warrant a 2 since a SoT 2 wouldn't be an expansion but a new game so ignoring your past progress would be expected. I think between captaincy, the hour glass, and the lack of communication from the developers this past year shows what they think of the players at this point. Completely disconnected, put out enough content to keep us buying into the cash shop as the game slowly dies.

Try King of Seas and Salt 2, maybe these games are what you're looking for. Sea of Thieves is clearly not the game for you.

    • NEXT GEN only

I understand that maybe the last generation is limiting the evolution of the game, but depriving a portion of the community for so little is not cool.

    • New code fixing existing issues that are unsolvable (e.g hit reg, black screens)

The hitreg is something that mostly affects PvP players, if the game were only PvE maybe there would be no need for so much fanfare.

I absolutely love SoT and the thought of a new and improved game is just too good. Destiny 2 did it. Overwatch 2. Warzone 2. Games that aren't dramatically different from their predecessors but are undeniably improved.

When we love something, we love it the way it is. You might even like Sea of Thieves a little bit, but I doubt you really like the game wanting so many changes to the base of the game. Of course, I would also like some small changes, like removal of Server Alliances, fixed hitreg, etc, but I would never ask to change the core of the game.

We don't need a completely brand new game.
Just make everything bigger and better and continue to improve upon the things the original game did right!

    Contradiction?

It was postponed once again, it seems that for the first quarter of 2024...

  • @paparug420 I wouldn't mind a sot2 unreal 5 with next gen, I don't think they could leave sot as pve as that split of community could be the cause of it actually dying. Overwatch had to take the stance to retire original in order to ensure the playerbase went with the game. Saying that original xbox one players would be excluded

  • I think we're still a ways off of even thinking about a sequel. Live service game sequels are even trickier, since you need to convince your existing players to abandon something they enjoy to start over on something new. Generally its a good idea to wait until the majority of your regular players have moved on, and I don't think the game is at that point yet.

  • @goldsmen I really think you need to reread the original post again. Nothing that you've said is accurate about the author or his intentions.

  • @parrotlord6426 Unfortunately, the unreal engine and unreal games (HL etc.) have been prone to similar issues SOT has; hit-registration, and so on.

I'm brand new to the game. Only been playing 3 weeks maybe and even I'm wishing there was more to the islands and under the waves. I do find the game really neat right now since I'm so new but I've already thought to myself a couple of times "it seems like this game could get old fast."
We like to attack ghost ships and ghost fleets, fortresses, do those side questions with Jack Sparrow, but I wish there was more to discover on all of these islands. We did find one island that has b00by traps and what looks like some sort of boss battle that we have to figure out how to start, but that's not most islands. Most are empty.

  • @targasbr You seem a little upset. The original author didn't mean anything negative by his post. He just has preferences and a wishlist. He's not harming anyone. Don't take it so personally. It's just a game.

At no point was I rude or offended anyone, I just pointed out some contradictions and also that this game might not be ideal for him. I even indicated games that could be more fun based on what he likes. It's just a game, so those who don't like it can look for others to play.

  • Overwatch 2 is hot garbage, just like its predecessor, but I also don't think this is the strategy for SoT. I will say that spending time for a massive overhaul and changing the hardware/server system to be able to handle more would be nice. It's very hopeful, but nice.

  • @d3adst1ck Good point. You make sense. However, when they went from Halo 2 online PVP to Halo 3 PVP, it was a little disappointing. Still a lot of fun, and they even fixed some issues that were in H2 PVP, but H3 still didn't beat H2. This is a similar story when they went from Halo 3 to Halo Reach, then Halo Reach to Halo 4. All the sequels had both good and bad things about them. So, would RARE be signing their death warrant if they retired this game and released a second version? I don't know.
Maybe retiring this version is too soon. If RARE works more on adding more events and variety to the game, like adding more things to discover on islands and under the sea, that might help the older players who are starting to get a little bored of the game.
I'd like to see a 24 hour major weather event that affects the entire Sea. Like a sudden cold burst and you have to navigate icebergs and ice storms or sail through a mild hurricane or maybe you can run into random water spouts. Water spouts would be cool.

  • Overwatch 2 is garbage and pretty much dead on arrival. It’ll never surpass the original, look at player numbers.

  • No, man, just… no.

This game has many, many years left innit, and it may not even be sunsetted in 2028. This game, as Michael Chapman said, deserves to go on forever. Even if a sequel happened, it would take quite a while to match the original game.

Also, shame for suggesting turning SoT into a PvE game when we stop getting updates.

@goldsmen I really think you need to reread the original post again. Nothing that you've said is accurate about the author or his intentions.

I read it just fine, their intentions are to get the game as it is closed down for some fixes that are probably already in the works to some extent, 1 thing that many people already request, then to have changes that they personally thinks would be better for them self, and then rename it "SEA OF THIEVES 2!" even though its just the same exact game doing the same thing they are doing already.

Requesting a game be shut down, and the exact same game re-released as a sequel with changes that suit you in particular is... Well, i would at least see it on some level as selfish considering many people already love the game as is other than some small things.

  • If there ever is a SoT 2, please keep it PvPvE. 👍

  • My original post was stating that I'd love to see SoT2 be EXACTLY what SoT is just bigger, better, and more beautiful in every regard without the obvious limitations of old hardware (5 ships per server, black screens)

I love the PvPvE aspect, the AI can be dangerous but other players are the real danger.

It is my favourite game of all time by far.

I love the updates (adventures are a bit meh) and love the aspects of exploration and adventure that come with each update.

The thought of being able to experience a brand new larger map, new biomes, new puzzles and quests, exploring islands teeming with secrets and life all whilst being developed on cutting edge hardware and the advantages that come with that.

RARE could learn from their mistakes and improve on their existing code.

And if a SoT2 was ever released I think it could be interesting to make SoT 1 a purely PvE experience. Any players who have issue with PvP could play that instead, reducing the seemingly unending cries from players who "hAtE PvP"

Obviously SoT HAS to run on the older xbox hardware, and that is a limitation to what the developers can achieve.

A sequel could be exactly what Microsoft needs as a AAA title to sell their new consoles, and could take SoT to a brand new level of popularity and excellence
