Developers when will you update anti-cheat? The new mode is simply unplayable. Every second with a knockdown of the animation for changing weapons. Let this macro be impossible to fix. But in addition to this, the players have an aim bot. Many players with speedhack. Either he jumps backwards faster than our characters run in front, or he swims like a torpedo. I'm not talking about various aids for firing cannons. You can simply remove the knippel from the game, they are no longer needed because the enemy will hit the core three out of three without any problems from any distance. The time of playing with a friend on sloops in pairs has already exceeded 1000 hours. We drowned without problems even the unions of brigantines. But that was once. Now we can't sink the sloop. I will describe almost every our fight. We swim out to us, they shoot the core at the player behind the cannon, then the core at the player at the helm and then at the mast and the gun in turn until the mast falls. Further, while they swim up, they shoot cannonballs at the ship and from a long-range gun at us. Further, the enemy player climbs out to us and all of us cannot kill him. Because two shotgun blasts at the same time and several sword strikes do not kill the enemy. But we are always killed with one shot, and even with a long-range gun when you have full health. We decided to go to a regular session. Here a ship is sailing in front of us, we are towards it, but it starts a fight, he played as a treasure guard. The ship that surfaced instantly flooded the first. Then, from a huge distance, he clearly planted three cores in our mast. We quickly raised the mast and then we hear a mermaid. The enemy grabbed our ladder when we started to swim. My friend stands on the side and shoots at the enemy, he flies down the stairs and immediately clings to it. He climbs out and I already throw him overboard with a shotgun. He again clings to the ladder my friend shoots him again he flies away again and clings to the ladder he climbs out I shoot him but do not throw him overboard. I take out my sword and hit the enemy, but he jumps over the steering wheel to a friend at the cannon. The friend shoots him again, but the enemy then kills my friend with one shot. At the same time, I jump after the enemy and shoot him again with a shotgun point blank. The enemy calmly turns around and kills me. And how to play with them? Many write that old players have come, they are strong. Players came from the arena, they are supposedly strong too. This is not true. There were cheaters before, but they didn’t come across so often, now it’s just some kind of invasion. We have hundreds of such battles as I wrote with a new update. Each victory was given to us as difficult as possible. Sometimes we just got lucky. There are battles an hour long, and our enemy has never made a mistake or missed. A person cannot help but make mistakes and miss for so long, unless he is a cheater of course. Update anti-cheat or cheaters will bring this game to its knees.
Cheaters in the game
@cpt-skinnyp said in Cheaters in the game:
I would say report the cheaters, but that wont amount to much
it amounts to more than people saying the same things over and over in threads about cheating
reporting cheats serves two things at once, short term and long term
short term it gets rid of an account that is found to be cheating (Rare will ban people if they are found to be cheating)
which leads us to the long term benefits, Rare acknowledges that repeat offenders are an issue, it's easy for those that cheat to get back to cheating after a ban, it's something they are working on
Without those short term reports and bans it's more difficult for them to accomplish their goal of keeping those that are cheating off new accounts.
It's far more productive for people to work within the system of reporting than using that time and energy to say the same stuff over and over.
Any helpful report and any ban (even if short term) in regards to proven cheating is helpful for the overall goal of bringing down the repeat cheating.
@pumpa-cat
I mean, I was playing last night and matched 3 times with cheaters that were trash talking and wearing nothing but pirate undies. They knew exactly what they were doing and didn't bother with cosmetics because they knew they'd be banned in less than 48 hours. I already got the confirmation from Rare they banned one guy I reported with evidence.
I have to agree. People creating burner accounts with pirated clients in hourglass is a real problem. What makes it a big problem is the solution. Some have suggested you need to be on a captained ship to participate in hourglass, but it will take hackers mere hours to buy a captained ship so that won't work. Maybe you can't raise servant/guardian hourglass without being 75 reaper/pirate legend, but that raises the bar too high for casual players. It's a real pickle.
Video it, Screenshot it
Report it.I see more people posting on youtube showing these so called "cheaters" when frankly...it majority the Server or Player themselves.
Hitreg has been a major cause for confusion and players see it as someone cheating when it more, You missed your shot. Or they dont realize the second you lose track of someone, they ate something to heal up.When someone is "better" than you, clearly it cheating since that the only logical explanation. That what I get from these posts who say Cheats, Mods,
Hackswithout EVER giving me proof, just a wall of text explaining something. You can easily tell when they are cheating, if they kill you with one shot of the pistol or eye of reach when you have full health.
Aimbots are probably harder to tell on our end as the guy could be that good but there has to be a way for some code to detect these anomalies so it automatically bans cheaters.@cpt-skinnyp said in Cheaters in the game:
@wolfmanbush I have reported cheaters with clear video proof and they are still playing
I can only speculate on something like this but in general Rare has a pretty good record on handling individual cases when it comes to cheating and toxicity as long as there is sufficient evidence including gamer tags and all that.
Since their report system leads to decisions being communicated to the one that made the report there is accountability within the system. They tell people what they decide, which is fairly unique in reporting. This also makes it to where their interest is going to be in making a reasonable and accurate call on reports.
Lack of action/enforcement or inaccurate enforcement will occasionally happen on their part but overall it's a pretty reliable system to go through as long as there is sufficient evidence, often times there just isn't the evidence to make a call on access even though the one reporting is convinced they are correct.
There were always cheaters in the game however since season 8 you hear about them more frequently. And I got to be honest, in my 3k hours of playing before season 8 I saw ONE blatant hacker. Since season 8 launched, I saw multiple. It got to a point where people advertise literal cheat download websites with their names in ledger leaderboards.
I don't think there'll ever be a proper anti cheat like "EAC". But I'd like to know if the developers 1st recognised an increase of cheaters as well and 2nd how they deal with it.@nex-stargaze Yes, I have created a second thread about this. Because there are more and more cheaters. Today, in two battles, we surfaced and were immediately killed with a long-range gun. Banning cheaters doesn't help. We need a normal anti-cheat that simply will not allow players to use cheats.
Its interesting, as the cheaters apparently get quite upset about people saying they dont exist. They have started putting up youtube videos giving active demonstrations of the cheats they make - you can watch them in action, explaining how they do it all in what are basically tutorials. You dont have to watch clips of them from the player side - you can watch the cheaters themselves, in action, telling you exactly what they are doing and showing all their fancy screens and menus.
Its a product, basically, with demonstrations, reviews, customer service even. Thats why they took the brazen step of advertising their sites on the ledger leader boards. They want us to know they are real, even if some folks continue to deny that.
Another issue that makes cheats so effective is the current PvP meta's. Weapons dealing damage too quickly combined with aimbots and macro's and you've got insta kills on any pirate without much opportunity of being able to fight back. I've been in this situation a few times and more frequently as of recent with the launch of season 8. In the past it's not so been too much of an issue in the wider adventure where these players are diluted amongst the vast servers. Now the people searching for PvP are grouped together increasing these encounters with cheaters.
I think cheats could be nerfed essentially without requiring an anti cheat if some changes to the game was made.
@dizel7979 I was accused of being a hacker yesterday l. I was blundered off the ladder but back tracked and ate meat while I did. I waited until regen filled me and I climbed again, blundered off, ate a pineapple, grabbed ladder. This time they missed their shots and I made it on board and anchored them. It’s not hacking it’s understanding timing and game physics. If you are below 75% health you are essentially one hit. I’m not saying cheaters aren’t out there but I’ve run into a few sweaty arena crews and one NAL champion and we were dumpstered so fast lol. Learn what’s happening and how to counter it. Also if you are hip firing the blunderbuss you won’t 1 hit. I do think the blunderbuss need an update. I have a hard time one tapping ppl with it but such is the game. Good luck man
It doesnt.
The report system is quite bad.
- You cant report in game
- You have to provide video evidence
- You get little to no feedback about the result of your report
I reported some guy with 5 videos of him aimbotting, making impossible shots, with clear descriptions of individual most suspicious shots and timestamps and nothing came of it.
SoT handles cheaters by ignoring the problem.
Im gonna tell you some cool story that happened to me hour ago. I invaded into fight with player on nameless ship, first he fired himself on my move and i thought he gonna do boarder, but no, he just passed me by, strangely, then we started circling and i opened fire, but surprisingly he did not fire a single shot in response.. I took his mast, flamed deck, kept circling and fired about 50-60 cannonballs then i realised that i hear crackling sound of MY ship, there was NO holes, but water kept coming somehow, slow but it is, i doublechecked...no holes...and i was far from his ship, really far...i bailed water and gave him more cannonballs, then decided to come close and see whats happening, because there was completely no movement on his deck, i basicaly rammed his ship and stopped there, while trying to look into interior, but i could'nt see anyone that bailed the ship, everything was on fire, but ship wasnt sinking. I wrote "nice cheats" and in couple of seconds he just finally sunk... or left game, i dont know what happened, maybe when i burned his ship it interfered his abusing. Also in the moment i came close to his ship i had one strange splash of water in my face, but there was noone on the deck. He left 16 flags, the poor fellows who he deleted from the server...

you record that?
@wolfmanbush sadly no, when i turned on obs and started recording he left... maybe he didnt want to reveal himself, when i wrote "nice cheats" he saw my name and realised i could record it

What I struggle to understand with these topics and with experiences like yours is why so many are not recording when they are regularly posting that there is a lot of cheating in the game.
I don't think there is evidence of significant cheat use in this game and I don't report people and I play on a 5 year old laptop and even I record 6 and a half minutes of gameplay at all times.
If people are going to claim that it happens so often I think they need to get serious about recording footage, imo.
@wolfmanbush Yea, i'll do next time surely..this situation caught me by a surprise. Meanwhile you can enjoy some finest video from sot partner, see some guys flying around and doing tricks on immortal ship, enjoy : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVQp9c5-9_I&t=325s

why? you consistently post about the game being filled with cheaters, why are you surprised?
@wolfmanbush Because i dont want to lose time and lose the fight while alt-tabing and opening obs, also i just didnt think about it at the moment. Watch video above if you want some video, then comment.

This is what commonly happens here
People make claims and then link to a streamer's encounter, a incident that doesn't prove or even suggest the claim, which is widespread cheating.
If you are encountering significant amounts of cheating and are spreading that narrative you would help your cause out significantly by recording your gameplay and going through the report process.
@wolfmanbush Man there's absolutely no logic in your posts, no constructive points, its just some chatter to increase post counter and constant attacking on different opinion . What you want to prove? That black is white and 4x4=5? I give you actual recent video with proof of cheating and you say its nothing

You recording your encounters and reporting cheats you encounter and share stories of in the social areas of the community is a logical approach to the issue.
If I can record over 6 minutes of recent gameplay on an old laptop I know that many others in this game can do it as well to help them with the common cheating that they feel is happening.
@wolfmanbush i encountered and i did reported, is that enough for you?
You just not listening, i told ya, this time i wasnt expecting that happen and even after i saw the water in my ship, i thought maybe there is a hole or this is some kind of bug, it took me a time to realise whats happening..
@wolfmanbush You dont understand why people are not recording? Let me tell you once more, plz write it down so you will not play like that the next time this topic arrises:
- It costs time and effort opening OBS/other programm
- Even worse, you are supposed to open your OBS and start recording even while you are under attack
- you need to know how OBS/Others work
- und need to have a suffiecient CPU/GPU so your game is still playable while recording
- you need to spend time and effort even AFTERWARDS to cut the vid, submit the form online, deal with the attachment max file cap from Rare (which 3 days ago was 1mb, i tried submitting 2 videos, 2 people, could not, did not get an answer from the Support on that, made screenshots out of the vids for at least some proof), deal with the instability of the site (breaks down often, doesnt work on multiple browsers)
- Many of us are working class citizens, maybe even have family. Its simply too time consuming to do Rare`s work here. With all the points mentioned above, it takes significant amount of time to do that, many people simply dont have it.
- Implementing a proper anticheat and a proper report function IS THE TASK OF THE DEVELOPER, NOT THE PLAYER
There is widespread proof for widespread hacking on SoT: In Forums, on Youtube, on Reddit.
These are not just unproven allegations. It has become significantly worse since season 8 (oh, what a suprise, who could have thought that implementing a PvP encourages hackers.)
And shifting the blame for all the missing infrastructure on hackers to the player is not helpful imho@malyartv said in Cheaters in the game:

yup, recording what you believe is cheating and reporting it so it can be looked into is exactly what I am talking about
@wolfmanbush This time even if i could record something there is no name to report...he was on nameless ship and left before i could see him... how we supposed to RePoRt? lol Sometimes its just impossible, hackers not stupid too

Yes. Things take time and effort, that is true for most things in life. The same energy and time that is spent by people posting the same things over and over about cheating can be used to productively combat cheating in their sessions.
People can report with a link to the video from youtube or imgur or vimeo, etc
@wolfmanbush what are you using?
People usually put time and effort into things they deem worth it. Being an unpaid freelancer to fix missing core features in an online multiplayer is not
The energy is spent much wiser in a feedback forum then on the hackers personally, as this is a fruitless, neverending task. But giving feedback? This has at least some hope the DEVs will eventually care about the issue. The problem cannot be fixed by just continuuing to report people. Didnt work in the last 5 years
