Ive been clawing my way to 100 and wow its been one of or maybe the hardest thing I've ever done in a video game. Maybe laughable to some of you but to me its been very difficult. How did you guys do it? The frustration, anger (I dont yell at opponents but boy I let myself have it), the shear enormity of the task. Made it to 73 in the middle of writing this. 73 flame 20 guard. I'm not sure I'll continue though after I get both curses. I think the worst feeling I've had in a game came from this mode. The feeling of a loss after a hard fight or when I get stomped is demoralizing. Especially if I get sailed out and recieve nothing. Ive done it to people to so I'm no saint. Sometimes I just have to put down the game and play something else and reset. When I get tilted (I try not to but I am human so eventually I do at times) I start making very bad decisions. Getting better at just deciding to step away when that happens instead. Im hoping rare at least fixes queues soon and has more xp weekends. Maybe special incentives to help people stay motivated and not demoralized. Anyways i needed to vent. Just got a 3 streak and trying for champion. If I can do it, it will only be my second time doing so.
Level 73 now. how did you guys reach 100 so fast?
@hungry-owl3438
You know how you gradually lose motivation? That went away for me for Gold & Glory. I went up ~40 levels and got the skeleton curse. Whenever you feel like it's time to stop trying, remember why you're doing it. Go on the internet and look at some pictures of players with their curse. It is totally worth it; whenever I board a ship, a wave of fear settles on the enemy crew and they all play worse afterwards. The amount of fatal blunderbuss shots I've received has dropped as a result. Rare talked about roleplay when they introduced the curses, and they were so right. I've honed my skeleton voice and I love messing around in adventure as a skeleton... Which is a great break from stressful hourglass PvP after getting your curse.Sloops have better matchmaking times and you don't need to juggle as much teamwork as on other ships. In my case, I played with my brother, so our teamwork was pretty good... Find someone who wants it as bad as you and try to play with that person a lot. Your teamwork will grow together.

I wish I had someone to play this with. But I am stuck being solo.
as not fun as this is for someone that doesn't want to play solo it's still probably your best chance
duo sloops and brigs are quite sweaty quite often
you could gamble on open crew galleon and just hope for the best but gambling as a solo is probably your best overall shot
if you play with another player(s) around your skill as a sloop or brig you might get faster match times though
I feel your pain friend! I just ticked level 81 last night. Such slow going. Made worse by being on low population servers (Australia). Regularly spending 45 mins in queue, only to be sailed out? Soul destroying. Am hoping for an update from Rare soon as to when we can except improvements!
I sometimes switch to PvE defending to save my sanity. Purchase all commodities + Raid a ghost fort = level 3 Reapers and Level 2 HG treasure on board. Voting down hour glass before selling anything gives better rep then a loss. Takes about 20-25 minutes a run. Breaks things up a bit, and for me at least, it is either that or endless tunnels. At least this keeps the rep ticking over. I'd prefer to get invaded or pure PvP, but, needs must.
Imo some of you that are around the 50 60 70+ level and are feeling stressed about it and burnt out on it you should create a tavern tale thread
document every day, or every few days, once a week, whatever you want just use it as motivation, you can share your journey and document your progress.
a level is a level, that's progress, that's moving forward, that's getting closer to the goal. 2 levels in a day is awesome, that's 2 out of the way.
Embrace the journey, feed off the progress you make. Give yourself a push forward. Everything that feels cruddy now is going to increase the reward that comes with completing something personally difficult.
@hungry-owl3438 it took my crew and I 155 wins to reach guardian level 100. But we also turned in all of the reaper flags from the battles we won to the mystery stranger for added reputation as well!
well mate.. here is what i can tell you, since you and me were on the same boat until i made the decision to jump overboard. I was like that not long ago.. and what i found out that helped was not focusing that much on getting the curse or winning or being competitive about it. you can still have fun and enjoy the game if you decide to be more chill about it all. plus, i'm not sure how many games you do a day but, independently of that, since you can«t make it to a 4 streak (champion) on a regular basis, i would advise you to go for a 2-streak and then cash-in the hourglass, sell flags and go do something for 5-10 minutes that can calm you down.. basically try and reset so everything is fine. and remember, it's fine if you lose and don't get the streak of 2 wins and treat that as a opportunity to go breathe or something. Anyways, that's what i found to help me out, since i was also having troubles because i wanted the curse so much and was being way too stressed and competitive, but as soon as i let myself breathe and enjoy the game once again, i got to level 100 in a blink of an eye.
I think it's best to not pay attention to people achieving goals faster than others. A competitive mindset is a beyond destructive one, and Even for those that aren't competitive, are heavily grind-focused which will cause them to lose sanity when they aren't winning fights often and give up at trying to better themselves in a slower, much more comfortable manner.
Piecemeal it, go at a slower pace, take as much time as you need, and if it's possible, don't focus on the rewards primarily. PvP for the past 4 years of this game is generally unrewarding, getting sunk in a non-HG battle already offers so little to the loser's experience, and when you have a goal set to where you have to win to be rewarded, that's mentally destructive, even if it's the intention of the game's devs.
You'll go through a lot of trial and error, but the journey is much better than the destination, you can do this!

It's not destructive when the competition is with self
the destructive parts of competition are jealousy and resentment, attaching value of a person to outcome of a competition, wanting to be seen as better than others
the way to counter this while pushing oneself is to train to appreciate others and their accomplishments, appreciate the opportunity to be involved, support others and their goals along the way
abstaining from tearing others down makes it easier to not tear self down, and it makes it more likely to push oneself without losing oneself
an example of this in practice would be Rodney Mullen, someone that does incredible things with humility and appreciation for others, highly competitive with self.
In all seriousness, the guys I know that are rocking the new curse, or multiple new cursed cosmetics are using alliance servers.
They guarantee fast que times and trade wins all night. I am sure it's incredibly boring, just like playing on any other alliance servers. I could never get into it. Alliance servers just take to much away from the game.@captgraykid said in Level 73 now. how did you guys reach 100 so fast?:

Alliance servers just take to much away from the game.I'm sure it happens but I've watched a lot of fights over a lot of different streams since the content was released and the encounters with highly coordinated alliances have been minimal
the curses aren't that much of a grind for pvpers that were already pvping every day before the content and put a lot of hours in
it's not like the typical consistent pvp crew in sot needs it, they were going to get it by playing how they play in the first month or two without cheesing.
@pabz-2-dope a dit dans Level 73 now. how did you guys reach 100 so fast? :
So it was 4:30AM I had used 60 cballs i started getting tired - boom i’m accused of throwing the fight -threatened with reports.. literally laughed. If i was throwing a fight it would be me sinking before shooting 20 cballs. facepalm
Some pirates......
Tired of chasing one dude that runned across the area everytime I put a single hole in his ship, I fully raised my sails and waited for him to engage. Apparently my sitting-duck ship was throwing because he "couldn't get close" to fire at me. He was really infuriated that I defended myself and actuually tried to sink him....
Kept insulting me with Xbox Game Bar after I gave him the win too (wasn't gonna chase him for hours, just crashed into a nearby rock and sank)

Honestly, I might do this myself lol.
Not that I'm stressed about getting the curses, or that I'm in any sort of rush. I know I'll hit the levels eventually. What kills my motivation is burnout. Long queue times and poor server performance.
They're planning to make changes to speed up matchmaking, and that's great, but I doubt the servers will improve any time soon. Losing to a hitreg/desync-related issue isn't fun. And knowing that I won some matches because hitreg/desync was in my favor, makes it even less fun.
Hoping that tracking my progress/results will give me that extra push forward to continue.

yeah server performance probably won't improve much but your queue times should, hopefully
as an experienced pvper their plans should have you seeing more fights at your level
I don't see it doing much for inexperienced pvpers but it probably will noticeably help at least part of the issues you are having
Some by cheating
Last night i went up against 2 different crews that already had the skeleton curse and i thought man these guys are good, but then i noticed
they were killing us with one shot sniper or pistol and at first i thought maybe i did not have full health but after i came back from the ship of the damned they did it to us again and again. So there you go a lot of cheaters still in this game, years after this has been brought up and find it hard to believe there isn't code in the game that detects this and automatically kicks the cheater out.
They should also ban any player using the animation cancellation and double gun or anyone exploiting glitches to win pvp battles as the game was not meant to be played like this.
I have level 62 treasure guards and 22 bone level. There were days when we did 14 wins. And there were days when we lost 20 times per session with bad time in battle 1 minute. After playing with cheaters, there is even no desire to play at all. My friend and I are planning to get the curses of Athena's Treasures and Skeletons and never play this mode again. If we don’t abandon the game at all by then, because the number of cheaters is very repulsive.
