MMR and Season 8

  • Season 8 has been amazing, but getting high win streaks and leveling is turning extremely tedious especially at high MMR. Like I am not sure what to do anymore else than tank my mmr so I can start getting win streaks again to level. Just today I have fought against various NAL winners (including S6 ones which were arguably the best season of NAL), SOC winners, and other full NAL teams...

Now I am not opposed to an MMR system, but MMR + winstreaks is not a good combination. Now that MMR is starting to settle getting high win streaks and leveling especially in Gally high MMR is turning absolutely brutal which makes sense since you should have about a 50% WR if MMR is working properly.

So what's the fix. Make higher MMR games reward more rep, give rewards for being high MMR, and reduce the importance of win streaks. If this continues at this rate high MMR players will start to MMR tank on purpose just to rank up.

  • the issue is that the only ones playing it are people that pvp in the game like 12+ hours a day lol

lack of participation is the issue

this was always gonna be a streamer thing and a highly skilled pvp thing, the -everyone is gonna do it- thing was always over hype.

People aren't seeing streamers and their most active chatters (since day 1) multiple times a day because of skill based matchmaking it's because that's pretty much the only crowd playing it consistently throughout the day.

It's the same issue earlier seasons had, low participation. The difference is that this content very much needs high activity to work for anyone other than the skilled, even without any matchmaking they can't use activity that isn't there.

This isn't content that appeals to people outside of the pvp/social side of the community, it never was.

I love the game and I've always been fine with pvp and I'm over it, not because it's not good (it's fine) it's just not my thing long term and the grind isn't appealing to me, it's only going to be even less appealing to people that like pve like I do but are less cool with pvp than I am.

  • It appears that current streak is higher rated in the MMR than you're actual skill level. I got a notification that my skill level ranked up. I have lost more than I have won and I have never seen a notification of a skill level decrease. So either your ranking can never go down which would be kind of silly or if it goes down they don't tell you so your feelings don't get hurt?

But the fact that Rare has directly told streamers to lower their hourglass after a 4 streak to improve match making times tells me that the streak weighs higher in the que system than player skill. That could just be an issue of time too though since we aren't even 1 week in.
