i played a lot grindie games like rpgs jrpgs gta online, but sot is a grind that isnt healthy anymore ,lvl1000 for a course? skins starts at level 100 around for the new factions? milestones cosmetics for sinkin champion ships? in 6 hrs playtime i doesnt seen one champion ship n with skill based matchmaking on a solo sloop i will cross maybe a chamipon ship in the open world after tons of hours,i had fun yesterday with the update but the grind is silly and over the top, i mean you really expect that people just play sot the whole day cause they wanna have your cosmetics n crackin the levels? sure some do this but its a game n the mainthing should be fun to logg in
rare calm down with the grind
It is silly, yeah, but I mean SoT has always been grindy I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯. The thing for me though is, I would not mind the grind that much if it weren't only PVP.
I don't mind PVP, it's just that I don't see myself doing PVP 24/7, it gets tiring for me.
But who knows maybe I'm in the minority here.I dont think the intent is to have people play the whole day, im quite sure the intent is to make them rare so they are trophy items, a gold ghost curse player would be less intimidating if it took only a couple days to earn, but if its lvl 1000, that means some one has spent a lot of time sinking ships, and are not to be trifled with. A trophy is only as special as the effort you put into it.
As for champion solos, i got champion in the first day, the only reason i didnt match make again after that was because i cashed out to see some other peoples first impressions.
Pvpers are pretty much left out of veils, they can't use the stone or get completions, that's a grind they are likely never to do but it was necessary to create incentive to keep the content active long term.
The goal here is to add more consenting combat to the game which takes pressure off non fighters and separates people in a positive way.
Gotta have reasons to play in order to keep it active and these long grinds are the only real way to create that.
Gotta have substance so people get attached to the activity, this helps that.
Do I wanna do a long pvp grind? nah but I do think it's good for the game going forward.
Consenting combat is one of the best things to offer in the game long term as gameplay styles have become more extreme one way or the other over time.
If this had existed before season 7 then season 7 wouldn't have been so dead because people could just go pvp on demand. That might be true for a season down the road that might struggle. It could be a season saver in the future if there are major issues.
I'm of two minds on the grind.
On the one hand, becuz there's 1000 levels to unlock the golden ghost, it means i probably won't ever unlock it. So i'm a bit sad about that.
On the other hand, for the people crazy enough to actually do the grind, the golden ghost would be an amazing trophy that they can brag about.
It's basically the new gold curse, only harder and grindier to get.
I had to have a conversation with myself, saying i am NOT going to do the grind for level 1000,
I did the gold curse grind and it was the least amount of fun i've ever had with the game.

Dont do it for the grind of the gold ghost, only do it if you enjoy it, and if you do it enough just for the fun of it, you will eventually find your self shining!
@da-german420 the grind is absolutely nuts. I mean I don’t normally have issue with a bit of a grind but this is also a skill based grind. If a player isn’t particularly good at PvP this long grind could be overwhelming or daunting to say the least.
Yeah I can't even imagine how long it would take just to get a 4 win streak. At least 4 hours of play time in a single session. RARE continues to design this game for streamers. If you have a full time job you may as well forget about unlocking anything in this game. I can't think of a single cosmetic that take any level of skill to achieve, only ridiculous amounts of time

I got a 4 streak in maby 2 hours... If even that.
The grind is absurd, i can only see it being decent after a decent win streak of 4+ but the amount of allegience you get per time investment just never feels worth it. It takes a good investment to stock up and some time to do so and if you lose that's all gone and repeat again so i see it as a huge money sink if you're having a bad day as well and that just sucks even more fun out of it.
It just doesn't feel as jump in and go friendly as it should be and solo slooping matchmaking is horribly balanced as it's almost always a balance of attrition that lasts an eternity.
The grind to 100 is not going to be pleasant, the grind to 1000 is just ludicrous
@goldsmen assuming your opponents were just bad? My first match took well over 30 minutes, plus the time it took to get supplies and matchmake (close to another 30).
Players should be rewarded for simply participating in wanting to queue with how long it takes just to prep and get into another fight.
Damage dealt, kills, length of the fight or other factors should earn you rep. SoT is already a giant time investment for one session if you actually want to engage with each update. Rare needs to realize they dont have the only live service game competing for player retention.
Halo Infinite is constantly getting changes to its progression/live service. Maybe Halo fans actually got fed up with the grind unlike SoT fans.

I got a 3 win streak in a little under 2 hours. The biggest issue I found so far is running out of supplies. I did't have enough to fight the 4th opponent. A pause button in matchmaking could be a good idea
