I've been getting trolls all the time and what me and the boys do is lock them up and once their in the brig they usually just say "Haha, I'm gonna do the old AFK method and just sit here so if you get into PVP you'll fail because the game will be full and nobody will be able to join!" So i just want a way to get rid of trolls out of the game because my ship has sunk with tons and tons of loot because of this situation.
Add a vote to kick option.

Turn off Open Crew & Only invite people. Simple
Also, Just drop your loot into the water, sail into the Red Sea & leave. If they wanna go AFK in the brig so be it. They not gonna get anything I dug up and collected if they wanna be a pain.
Another case of people failing to understand the flaws of Open Crew in order to obtain maximum game enjoyment:
Open crew will have the game matchmake anyone onto your boat, what happens at that point is up to you as a collective crew, including your brigged mutineers. The best solution with a bad crewmate that won't leave is reducing risk. This can range from leaving the game regardless of the the 3 hour loot stack of 1 skeleton fort, to try piecemeal as much loot as you can to the outpost in between your journey.
The best solution overall is to not use open crew, and pre-create your own crew via the forums, Official Discord, and several other means of communication.
I know they want this game to be about pirate interaction first, but I wish they would change the layout of setting sail. When new people join and the default click position is Adventure - Galleon - Open Crew…. I feel like they don’t get the best introduction to the game and are more likely to give up quickly. I wish they would put Closed Crew as the default option so that you had to think a little more on using Open Crew. Because as much as we want to believe people read, pay attention to, and question the options they have… they really don’t. They just want to set sail quickly and so hit enter a bunch of times until they see they are joining a game.
@abjectarity exactly i dont play this game to make friends or talk to people. i just want to get my quests done and have it done with, i dont want to prepare to have a full on crew and dm them on discord and have this whole thing planned out. i just want to play the game and be done with it
@tommyboyt3a I hate to say this... But the way you're describing how you want to play is a way that will never leave you satisfied due to the game's heavily interaction-powered nature. You might want to reevaluate how you want to play before you set sail again.
@tommyboyt3a Then you will have to accept the struggles that come with the lack of interaction. This is not a "have your cake and eat it too" game for anti-socials. You either sail alone, or create your crew before you sail to get what you want, Open Crew is not a guaranteed satisfactory option.
@nex-stargaze I fully agree with you, I've been meaning to find a crew but just using discord and finding a whole new crew every play session isn't my thing, Most people i know just like finding a closed crew and leaving it forever once the play session finishes
@tommyboyt3a
Okay, but what happens when you're on a galleon of three friends and you're a random, and then they vote to kick you right before you sell to invite another friend?I haven't invited to a crew lobby in a long time. But If I recall there was a kick option in the lobby before setting sail. Since back in the day closed crew didn't exist. Odd they seem to not want to add a kick option because they think it would create a negative experience for players. While I get it would lead to unjustified kicking not having that ability for really bad acting crew mates is far worse for the whole crew than having a bad experience for 1 person being kicked.
Rare doesn't care though. I suggested a while back to have a 2nd timer on the brig. Like right now you have to wait to release someone from the brig. Why not similarly add a timer twice the length where if the person has been in the brig for like 15 or so mins a walk the plank option to vote them off the ship becomes available.
To all the dismissive replies saying just don't play open crew. The solution to a bad game design problem shouldn't be just avoid that option. If this truly was the solution the Rare should just remove open crew altogether. Lets remember they didn't have the understand of internet gaming to even have closed crew as an option when the game came out. The only kind of closed crew we had was solo sloop and 3 man galleon as it would lock out the extra slots instead of having a free slot some random could join. It was what at least a month or 2 before we got a closed crew option which should have been thought of before the game was even released. Either add a kick option or just axe open crew altogether.

Closed crew was added in 1.0.7, May 15th 2018 not even two months after release (March 26th).

A common mistake many on-boarding players make is relying on the game to give them a good pirate crew, when logically, that's not how strong teams are made. You need these players to understand what's good for them, and to realize that Sea of Thieves isn't like any other game that lives in its own bubble of communication. It very much relies on its exposure via social media, and using that same social media to fuel stronger and greater interactions that you'll see whenever you view Sea of Thieves on Xbox Clubs, Discord Servers, and Twitter.

It breeds the exact same issues as an overall vote to kick option. Even if they deserve a stay in the brig, it's ultimately up to them whether or not they want to continue playing the game, removing that choice just cause someone's trying to stir a mutiny before a fight you don't want to lose as an open crew is just more of short sighted organization and planning between the whole crew.

Lad, your head's filled with grog if you think it's viably possible for a game that can be trialed for $1 on PC and Xbox to have a properly filtered open crew matchmaking system just so you can complete a voyage with people you don't know, can't easily trust, and have as much control of the ship as you. That's why people refer to Xbox LFG, Discord LFC, and several other websites/social media for creating a crew. You can't improve in-game matchmaking like that just so your experience in what is essentially a whole different difficulty mode is much more comfortable to play in.
I will keep saying "don't play in Open Crew" because every player that rants about that option here took their sessions with randoms seriously in the first place. Open crew is meant for playing the game, but not expecting anything productive to come out of it. Shenanigans, silliness, and chaos are all you should expect when in an open crew, and if you don't want that, make your own. If you don't understand the tools you're using, you're gonna be frustrated when they don't work the way you want it to, and that applies to Open Crew word for word.
If Season 9's "New Social Options" work to make in-game crew matchmaking a little better than asking players to visit social media websites and apps to crew up, we might have a step in the right direction overall.
