Series S + console preferred = no modders!

What an intelligent answer! đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™‚ïž it is clear who contributes to the community and who breaks it.

@sir-l0rd The problem is not the Hackers, the problem is what you think are hackers.

@mintharp184509 said in Big Update Coming, But !! What About Hackers !!!!!!!!!!:

So just because the cheaters prefer to target high profile players means the problem doesn’t exist?

That’s not an acceptable mentality in my book.

The narrative spread around isn't that streamers face cheaters sometimes

the narrative being pushed is that cheating is rising and that non streamers are seeing cheating more and more and that's just not an accurate narrative.

Players that are not streaming and that are not high value drama targets aren't seeing targeted cheating and targeted cheating is most of the cheating. Targeted cheating is going to be private cheats. For random encounters it would be public cheats which are detectable and known about. Easy to ban public cheats and public cheats are almost always low quality and typically filled with things that benefit those that create them and spread them.

  • @mintharp184509 said in Big Update Coming, But !! What About Hackers !!!!!!!!!!:

    @wolfmanbush

The narrative is that cheaters do exist and video examples of such activity should be clipped and sent to Rare player support every time.

If you see a player running underwater or swimming/moving much faster than what should be possible or any other extremely obvious examples of cheating, do your part get their gamertag and evidence and report them.

Can’t let cheaters become rampant and ruin the experience.

    Sure, that's a productive approach

all of the exaggeration in streamer chats that ends up getting pushed everywhere else isn't.

If cheating were common there would be pve bots all over the place and that isn't the case. It's not like there is only a market for pvp cheats in a game like this. There would also be spam bots all over the place, including open crew.

Rare is pretty darn good job at keeping the cheating to a minimum. They are also supported by a community that in general aren't a bunch of cheaters. They are adventurers and fighters and pirates that for the most part value their accounts and aren't looking to cheat.

  • @mintharp184509 said in Big Update Coming, But !! What About Hackers !!!!!!!!!!:

    @wolfmanbush

I don’t understand the hostility people get when they try to bring awareness to a problem within the game.

Cheating either exists or it doesn’t.

If it exists we need to acknowledge it and stamp it out.

    Clips prove it exists.

No need for hostility towards the messenger and I don’t mean me I mean anyone who can provide proof that they encountered someone cheating.

It’s annoying facing cheaters in any game and it doesn’t matter who you are high profile player or not.

I understand why Rare would much prefer to keep this a support issue only and not advertise it that’s understandable but people on the forum claiming cheaters don’t exist is just a lie.

It's easy to tell that Rare does a good job on this because the servers aren't filled with fishing bots.

Fishing bots would be 24/7 income and a grindy commendation farmer and would be one of the easiest to code/script in a game like this that is otherwise complex.

They aren't seen and filling the public servers because Rare does a good job at detecting stuff like that with their system in place to address cheating.

Most other farm type of games have farming bots around and this game just doesn't have that. They do much better than some people give them credit for.

Pvpers get reported all the time, pve cheats would get reported far less, they aren't around because they keep them out.

  • @mintharp184509 No one says it doesn't exist, we are just pointing out it is NOT as prevalent as a lot of the Chicken Little types like to claim. They exist but not to the extent that they are a major issue, and are being addressed as they pop up.

  • It's entertaining to see these "hacker alert!" threads because if it's no someone that has a stream VoD or genuine recording of what happened, it's all just hearsay and a classic display of someone that doesn't actually know enough of the game.

I've said before i used to deny it even being a thing because I literally don't encounter it, but after watching certain streamers during the less active periods of Seasons 6 and 7, there are definitely players using funny programs to cause mischief, and it's still not that much of a deal because at the end of the day: who's meant to care?

Streamers get targeted by these kinds of players so they can bait attention and reactions from said streamer. Any normal player that gets attacked like this is either a popular content creator off-stream sailing, or a nobody that just simply collected a lot of loot, and failed to understand the risk they took by doing it. If you're afraid of getting attacked by hostile players who will sink you for literally ANY reason at all, either don't select "Set Sail" on the main menu, or record, report, and move on (by switching servers via "Leave Game"). It will be logically impossible to remove these types of players, so either accept you took a risk and paid for it with absolutely nothing to show for it, or start looking for another game.

  • Hackers aren't so much an issue but the idiots who double gun and can fire both weapons within a second are the problem.

In the early years of this game how many times did Rare "patch" so this wasn't able to happen. It's rife now and ruins the game for many.

  • @dlchief58 "Anti Cheat'' Microsoft Azure is their anti cheat and its laughable.

You have to realise most cheaters are using FoV/ ESP/Aimlock.io cheat engines which are not exactly detectable nor can you tell if someone are using those hacks unless they tell you so and/or are being blantly obvious...

  • @karkona said in Big Update Coming, But !! What About Hackers !!!!!!!!!!:

The game is wild and complex enough most could not simply know who is hacking unless it is obvious (most of them will not flaunt it). One example, I have a lot of loot on my boat and hacker Joe can see it across the map with his ESP then he can sink me with his medium level skills (or no skills—if he see's me solo on the opposite side of the island from my boat) and I'd never know he was any different from anyone else.

This is 100% that most people here on this thread and in game just don't understand.

''ChEaTinG iS RaRE, I NEveR CoME AcroSS iT111!!1''
It would be an insult to call those people delusional, but lets just settle at mis-informed...

Realize cheats like the popular ESP/Aimlock are not exactly detectable outside of doing a swim speed hack/ flying across the map with a keg and being blantly obvious.
Hell there was even hacks the other month were players did an SQL injection and basically unlocked a lot of commendation cosmetics out of thin air.

I literally have footage of a guy showing it, placing a shrouded ghost Trinket on a captained ship on a day 1 account.
People need to realise that every month or so, a new hack appears on the seas which is practically un-detectable.

Tell me how your supposed to know that someone is using ESP + 120 FoV with out them telling you they are... Which.. Believe it or not, them telling you they are is not enough proof to get them banned (Which is what happened in my case when I reported an idiot telling how he spotted us tucking and ran directly for us 2 islands away...)

All that being said theres a large percentage of people who use FoV/ESP who go undetected and UNBANNED. RARE just needs better anti cheat...

  • @sweetsandman cant post footage here when it comes to reports/witch hunting, I got a bunch of hacking footage if you want to send a private message im happy to share what being camped by players using ESP looks like...

  • @sir-l0rd
i would advice you to learn playing and stop crying over sots forum.

  • @ix-indi-xi been on these forums a long time and apart from the obvious play on opt out which changed the game SO much, cheating is so over the top on sot its a joke.

It's nice to see someone talking sense and not just the echo chamber of Rare defenders brushing it under the rug. So tiring to see the same cope posted in every cheating thread rather than holding rare to do something better.

A quick google search will give enough info for anyone who has an open mind on the subject.

I agree, cheats are easy to look up and install.

Just because people don't see obvious aimbot doesn't mean players are using other cheats such as information gathering which is the more popular method which cannot be detected. (Aka Wallhacks, knowing if you have loot on your ship from afar).
Really the only cheats that are obvious to spot are swim speed hacks [Not the one where you can curently exploit on ships ladders mind you] and flying across the map...

  • @ix-indi-xi Cheating is beyond rare tho. Its the skill gap between new and old players. In the 5000 hours I have played I've seen maybe 2

  • Just fought a guy that continuously hit me directly with cannon balls no matter where I was on the ship. It was almost like he couldn’t miss.

  • @sandfeld2004 i would advice to bark away from here lol

  • @quietrobot the problem is the way u think

Thaaaaaank uuuuuu thats what i mean but comments want to blame the players not the game, i can see that they care more than us lol

  • @sir-l0rd
or you will call me hacker i suppose? I have never seen a hacker throughout my 1800hours+, but maybe youre just unlucky

  • @sandfeld2004 i wont call u hacker cuz i dont think the way u think .. but dont be disrespectful by saying learn how to play and stop crying, most of the comments dont agree that Rare should have a better anti cheat, only few agree

  • Nobody in his right mind wouldn't want a better anti-cheat. It would be akin to someone not wanting free money.

What people disagree with is the statement that cheating is everywhere or that Rare doesn't have any anti-cheat system at all.

  • I can confirm there are cheaters. (PC)

I am one of these 'I will waste your time sailing away as long as possible' and suddenly my sloop got one shotted sunk through rocks from very far away. I am gonna record my matches from now on so I can send in proof. You can see the gamertag in 'recently played with'

  • Most of these threads just get derailed by no evidence comments of 'I have played for 8 billion hours' and never seen a hacker posts.

It never occurs to them that its possible that you are so used to seeing cheating its become a normal function of the game.

As others have stated its probably a lot more than ot already seems as subtle cheating is a lot easier to hide than some dude jumping on your boat and deleting 60 fruit items in a second.

There is a lot of footage to review in this game. Very lengthy vods that show countless encounters that in no way look suspicious. Cherry picked videos to get clicks and push narratives don't erase all of that long content that has been created that shows how routine and easily explainable much of the combat is.

Most skilled players are somewhat to very known these days, most skilled players either create some form of content themselves or play with others that do.

This gives people a lot of footage to review both on the accuser side and the accused sides of a lot of different combat.

Very little of that (adventure) footage shows clear cheating and nearly all of it is related to people that hunt specifically for streamers and a few specific pirates that like to cause chaos. The clear cheating is very rarely random encounters.

Most long time adventure player's opinions and/or their content that pvp and most recorded combat in the game both indicate low random cheating (non targeted).

There just isn't evidence to support widespread cheating during random encounters in adventure.

No, they got derailed by people shouting that there is rampant cheating without ANY evidence.

Compare that to all the hundreds of hours per day of streaming time for the partner streamers alone where you never see any cheating. If there is rampant cheating, you would have seen a lot of cheating in their streams. Yet you don't... Perhaps because it's not rampant and some people just claim 'cheating' when someone is skilled or just outsmarted them. Just watch Hitbo-streams for instance and you see from time to time how clueless some people are when he is hiding in sometimes very obvious places and people just run by him without noticing.

If you keep supply crates, they can quickly empty your barrels yes. And have you also considered that he might not have been the only one on the ship? Perhaps a tucker used the chaos created by the boarder to steal some supplies (and throw them overboard if he did it with supply crates). People who know what their doing can sometimes very easily steal supplies.

I'm sorry, but without clear evidence (that probably should be sent in to SoT Support and not posted on the forums), it's hard to believe a Seafarer in which their first post to the forums is the same, exact, mantra of "there are cheaters in SoT, Rare do something about it pls!" Most of the time, it's just skill issue, other times, it's this game bugging out and letting players do really dumb things or cause them to, for no reason, and without warning, not take damage, not heal them when they wait through the full eating animation, or misplace them mid-fight, or any other dumb reason one would believe the other enemy is "hacking".

I'm not going to deny this stuff exists, but I am going to deny posts that say hacking is running rampant when in reality: you're not as good at the game as you think you are. People can do legitimate things in this game that aren't unintended exploits (that would eventually get removed, such as wallbanging, bucket/shovel animation cancelling), and beat those players because of stronger game knowledge and experimentation. Trying to condemn long time players for not coming across these "hackers" and denying your claims when their identity isn't on the level of one of the game's partnered/most popular content creators is very short-sighted, especially when their position in recognize-ability is about the same as yours.

Let's put it that way : I played for more than a thousand hours, I'm very average at the game, yet I come on top 9 times out of 10 encounters on average (and my losses can easily be attributed to poor decisions) playing normally in aventure. If cheating is rampant, the vast majority of cheaters are god awful at the game to be losing to me. I don't even have a 50% winrate in the new system ! xD

So, from my perspective : either cheating is rampant and the vast majority of them can be beaten by an average player / crew (doubtful) or cheating is way less prevalent that you might think. Last option would be that I'm a lucky son of Flameheart and manage to dodge every cheater that fill the sea (somewhat doubtful).

That's far from true, they definitely should have something better, but I have accepted that whatever Rare wants to do with their game, they do it the best way they can, and they have faith in what is supposed to be their anticheat system.

u care about Reputation more than they way u think new players are not truthful LOL

I don't trust new players because 70% of this game's community is writhe with misinformation, especially with new players' assumptions of how the game works. That why "hacker" and "cheater" claims are harder to believe without evidence because you probably got outplayed and mistook an in-game bug for someone not playing fairly. If you want Rare to fix something that's been constantly addressed, show some cold hard proof it exist and that you weren't just getting outskilled normally.

Yeah idk whats happening at their HQ in terms of stance of anti cheats, which is poor:

Recently a player got caught injecting one of the rarest sails into their account (NAL sails)
Also recently There was a person that got caught using cannon aimbot with footage being posted...
AS far as im aware, Aimlock/ESP/Freecam/FoV are still rampant cheats going around, no way to detect these if you are facing against players using them. Go integrate yourself into TDM communities and you wil find that 70% of them are using FoV/ ESP.

Can't say for certain but I bet RARE would love to have an actual anti cheat outside of Microsoft Azure that won't take a big hit on server performance which is already poor as it stands... But that is just my assumption based off no concrete evidence on that last part here.

  • Took me 5 seconds to find the steam version of the ”thing” in question. Rare just needs to decompile the hook and fix it. Surprised we haven’t gotten a hot fix yet since it’s release.

Notice it’s a steam vulnerability and not a Microsoft store version. I wouldn’t mind playing only with Microsoft store people. That would cut down the Hail Mary and my capstan from being dropped a tile away.
