I was able to voice chat previously but only as of recent have I not been able to get it to work? I just want to say ARG again :( any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar.
    • Go to Sounds.
    • Click on Recording tab on the pop-up window.
    • Find your microphone and make sure "Set as Default Device" and "Set as Default Communication Device" are both on (if you don't see those options, they are already set).

(Worth checking the same under the Playback tab for your speaker output if you can't hear other players)

  • Okay so for some reason my fancy mic just wont work bbut my webbcam mic finally did. THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE YOU ARG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have the same exact problem, my mic is on default but is not working on Sea of Thieves. I tried doing all the steps that says in support page but nothing worked.

Seeing as you say you've gone through the support page article and the above solution also didn't work, the only other possible solution I can think of is your Microsoft/Xbox account privacy settings. These are separate to the Windows 10 privacy settings the support page goes through.

Go to Microsoft.com, log in with your Microsoft/Xbox account that you are playing the game on. On the top right click on your profile pic, and go to "My Microsoft Account", then scroll down to "Privacy" and click on "Privacy Dashboard". From here, click on the Xbox logo under "Privacy settings in our products". Check the settings to make sure your account has permissions to use voice and that others have permission to "communicate with voice, text or invites" (set to Everyone).

    Hope that works.

  • I'm gonna jump into this thread to not open a new one, since maybe the issue I'm running into is the same people are asking about here:

Does using Discord on console affect the ability to switch back into the game world audio channel in any way?

I've been finding this issue where, while on Discord chat with a friend, we can't switch back to speaking with others in the game world despite that option being available as in Xbox party chats. You select switch to game chat, and no one can hear you, neither the friends you were connected with a second before nor the other players—indeed the green speech bubble icon that appears on a corner of the screen to let you know you can be heard doesn't show up either.

This seems to be limited to Discord. When I log into the game normally everything is fine. It's only once I start a conversation with someone on Discord and then we transfer it to the console that everything gets messed up somehow.

Yes, this is currently how it works, unfortunately.

Oh, damn. This pretty much rules out Discord for me then, I was hoping that Xbox integration would allow you to switch back to the game world at any time.

One good thing about it was that there's one guy in our crew who always makes everyone else's voices echo in our headsets. We never figured out how to fix it, until Discord became available and he started talking through his phone. That solved the echo. But if we're not gonna be able to speak to other players... back to echoes I guess.

  • i also have a problem... so i can speak in ingame chat but i cant hear other pirates vc, like im in dc chat and i can hear them communicating with other players?!?!? i also know i can talk cause some people use chat, i can see that... help:(((

  • As thread necro (reviving of old topics) is not permitted as per forum rules, we will go ahead and drop anchor on this here. Thank you.
