The bans for toxic behaviour and sprwing slurs ingame should be permanent

  • I just had a chat with an open crewmate after a very toxic lady started calling me the f word in game, and he told me he had reported many players for even worse slurs and toxicity and yet they were only temporarily suspended.

Is this the case really? Does Rare only hand out temporary bans for using racits and homphobic slurs and such words in game?

I feel like a temporary suspension is not enough with this kind of toxicity.

  • Without an easy way to report in game I doubt they can sort such problem out. If you experience this kind of behavior a lot, just mute them, you won't ever regret it. Especially if majority of interaction are with idiots. The people who you will want to talk to will be in your group chat anyway.

I could see this being a problem for social pirates. I personally could not care less, in 2 years I think I've only met 1-2 pirates through in game mechanics with who I would play afterwards at least a few sessions myself.

However toxic behavior is only rampant due to lack of control from the developers and most likely relying on video clips from players. Another reason, the game is on gamepass, so people don't risk much. I doubt there are many people blatantly breaking the rules who paid 40£.

  • @zig-zag-ltu

My experience with the report system has been that every time I've handed in a video of someone being a toxic idiot and using slurs, they have "been suspended from the game" according to an email I recieved. I am just amazed that this is only a temporary suspension and they get to keep using their slurs after the suspension is over? I feel like people who act out this way and use racist, sexist or homophobic slurs so openly should feel a strict punishment and not a "ohhh thats okay, just come back in a few weeks and keep doing the same!"

  • Leaders of decency are formed on the path to redemption

Warnings and temporary consequences can be guiding lights to those traveling in darkness. Wake up calls to those that are not implementing consideration.

A community benefits from efforts put into encouraging consideration of others, lessons from consequences.

We have all made mistakes, all been inconsiderate to others and we are all here today following the rules that encourage decency because somewhere along the line we learned from our mistakes, our inconsideration.

  • It works like every other game. They get a suspension/warning. The next suspension is either longer or a permanent redbeard depending on what they did.

They can also be permanently banned on the first infraction if it was severe enough.

  • They should just be permanently muted and forced to use the in game chat wheel. Very simple.

If this is the case then good. I was afraid its a temporary suspension after temporary suspension after... That would not be good.

  • they were only temporarily suspended.

How does he know? He follow them or something? He friends with them?
    Talk with the Dev/Mods?

    I doubt anything people say.

  • I would say context matters

  • @burnbacon

I mean, you can easily run into the same people again on open crew for example, or just check their xbox profile.

Context of why they used racist and homophobic slurs matters? I dont think theres any context when it would be allowed for them to call me the F word or N word...

Because sometimes you will get a message on your support ticket stating so.

    Irony lmaoooo

  • o@i-jusa-i Yes context always matters..
You will learn this with age

  • To my understanding, rare bases their bans on severity, if some one drops a few f bombs in anger before leaving, thats probably not serious enough to warrant a perm ban.

Racism, and a number of seriously extreme things maby should be treated more serious, but general name calling out of frustration isnt serious enough to perm ban considering some times emotions get out of control, especially considering the nature of this game.

  • @i-jusa-i i cant say for rare or sot directly but usually vocal misbehaviour will result in a temporary ban, however for repeat offenders will get increasingly long and eventually perma bans

  • Stick and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me

to some, to many, words hurt more than physical pain

they aren't wrong for it, pain is pain, it's real

it's a shared experience, an inclusive environment, the only way to be welcoming is to encourage maintaining an environment that values consideration of how words and actions can affect others.

  • Ahoy maties!

Just dropping by to say Rare do take every case seriously and investigate as far as possible and take the necessary action where they can.

You may never know the length real length of a ban based on the reply you receive in your ticket.

Cases where racist or homophobic language can and have ended up in permanent bans, Xbox also work in the same way.

Ranging from chat/comms bans all the way to permanent suspension of Xbox Live access.

As this topic has no further room for discussion I will be dropping anchor here! But as always encourage everyone to report players when they come across toxic behaviour - working together we can kee the seas clean of this!
