Rare Cosmetic Drops for World Events

  • It would be really cool to see new cosmetic drops tied to the different world events and bosses. For example, you defeat the kraken and a super rare chest floats to the surface along with the normal loot. Inside the chest would be some sort of rare cosmetic that gets added to your inventory. These drops would need to be rare. I'm thinking, Box of Wonderous Secrets rare. This would give players an added incentive when completing those world events.

  • I rather it be trinket to show off on my ship.

  • @burnbacon Who on earth is going to be interested in your trinket?

Most of the seas kill each other and worry about supplies over looking at a shiny trinket saying you did a world event and got lucky at some point.

I disagree. Some players actually like that sort of thing. I don't mind if it's a unique trinket or a cosmetic. Just something rare to chase. It's really no different than killing the Shrouded Ghost. When you kill the Shrouded Ghost, you get a special title and a figurehead. We all know how excited people get when they encounter the ghost. I just want to see more of that kind of stuff make it into the game.

  • @jester1027 Love it. Whether it's a trinket, a trophy, or any other type of cosmetic. Encouraging people to participate in more activities more frequently is always a good thing.

My issue with this is that Rare, despite having a myriad of cosmetics (a.k.a. recolors), are stingy about releasing them, and you're asking them to produce/release more behind challenges players are gonna complain about anyways?

This kind of shakeup feels goal-less and on a similar level to the Ashen Tomes where no one is gonna care about the grind/earnings of those items later down the road, it'd feel like a waste of development just to make things on the seas "exciting", except not really.

  • @nex-stargaze my concern with this idea, and any that command additional cosmetics, is that Rare just doesn't have the manpower to deliver much in the way of unique cosmetics outside of The Emporium.

Some problems with the tomes were that you knew what the cosmetic rewards were, there was very little surprise when you unlocked them...there also weren't very many of them...and if they weren't very appealing to you, your interest was squished from the start.

If Rare were able to create a pool of say...100 different cosmetics...make 10 ultra rare ones, 15 pretty rare ones, 20 kinda rare ones, and then 50 common ones, that'd be a great long-lasting system to drive participation.

But, we get so few non-paid and non-twitch cosmetics that I highly doubt any of this is realistic anyways.

  • Asking for cosmetics? yeah, that's not gonna happen lol.

  • I want a kraken tentacle bow and a cowboy hat with a meg tooth band

  • @jester1027 i mean I know I've found a Box of Secrets before, it would be great to have the box as an ornament, maybe open since our pirates have looked in them before.

if the box of wonderful secrets is left open, I'm imagining the wonderous secrets may escape. That will make the box of wonderous secrets...just a box. A normal, everyday box. And now the wonderous secrets travel the seas, and now some random pig knows tons of wonderous secrets, that he cannot tell to us, due to the language barrier between pirates and pigs.

  • @realwebber69 I've read the books and know what the box is capable of, but it just looks better open, and so people don't mistake it for a piece of loot.
