There are all kinds of awesome designs on cannons but the vast majority make it more difficult to aim your cannons. I love the default cannons but there are only a couple color variations. It would be nice to have more color variations to match my ship.
More color variations for default cannons
Honestly, this perception of cannons affecting your aim, is more like a placebo than a real thing. I do agree some cannons make it really more difficult to shoot with, however this might be something that helps another person to adjust his aim better. So to each their own.
We can all probably agree that default cannons is something everyone is used to, therefore I really support OP's idea to have the standard cannon color options to match the current flares.
In my opinion this is all to do with getting used to something. I do agree that some designs are easier to get used to and feel more accurate, but do they really matter that much?
I found someone on reddit who has done a lot of research to support your point. I am not arguing against him.
Have a look, perhaps you will see a design that would be more suitable until/if Rare adds more colors to the basic ones.
I really love the Soulflame cannons. There is a gap at the end of a barrel(more visibility on target and where the cannon ball lands) which honestly helps me to adjust my aim and I got really used to it. However, everyone else usually hates them and demands to change to something else or the standard ones.
I personally try to learn and have 'muscle memory' on the projectile and the altitude I am aiming at, playing with different designs only helps in the long run imo.
But yeah I can honestly understand hardcore PVP players who are looking for competitive edge everywhere possible. So having same design cannons for 1k hours will surely help them to get used to it. But if they played with any other cannons for 1k hours, they would be just as good with them, but that's just my opinion.
We have a saying in our country ''For a bad dancer, even his own family jewels are an obstruction'' or something similar :D
@zig-zag-ltu's link is out of date but the idea is there,
A few videos like this are more up to date https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fgKNsEi2NE & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft-HD_CoaU4
I use the following mental reticle's for my royal revenge and eternal freedom cannon skins:
and I try to shoot from further and further out when doing naval battles.
@th3xr34p3r Thanks man, I'll have a look at them when I get home.
I think I saw one of Phuzzys videos where he explained something similar regarding cannon shots. I find this a bit like a basketball jumpshot, or driving a new car.
So there is a correct technique how to release the ball, however the best shooter in history (Stephen Curry) has his own.
And when you are shooting whilst sailing at speed, I could compare to driving a new car. Obviously scratching your car or hitting it is not an option, so you do it very slowly, once you feel the car like it's an extension of your body, you can do it at speed.
So for example I am rather accurate with chain shots when the ship slows down, but probably someone really good at PVP has the same accuracy going in big waves at full speed and at the speed which I am comfortable with, he would never miss a single shot. So yeah - experience and practice is important ^^Do you know if phuzzy or someone has any good guides where you could practice these things solo. I'm sure there is an island somewhere with a mast or similar sticking out roughly same height as ships in the sea, where you could do drive by's and test your accuracy.

What I do to practice is as I sail by forts I aim at towers to see if I can set of kegs and I use ghost ships and skeleton ships as moving targets when not shooting at player ships that make for good target practice.
@th3xr34p3r Hmm, I'll give it a go with the forts.
I guess I need to start hunting those skelly ships, as currently I would try to get as close as possible for a quick loot grab after a barrage of cannon balls. Besides I want that title for sinking 500
@zig-zag-ltu when hunting them the vertical banners tell you what curse they will be using so you can focus on ones that you know you have an easier time dealing with when it comes to the skalleons.
@th3xr34p3r Did not know this, thanks for the tips man. But probably I'll keep long range target practice for sloops first. Galleon auto aim barrage gets really annoying and sometimes time consuming and while multitasking ten things, I would not see anyone approach me. So perhaps before advancing on the voyage ^^
I'd quite like some more variations of the sailor cannons. I only use the sailor cannons for aiming reasons and whenever I hop on someone else's ship who aren't using them my aim is always low. You naturally use the end of the barrel as a reference point. If you're used to the shape you adjust of course but personally, i prefer the slimline look of the sailor cannons.
YES PLEASE made a post asking for this a while ago as well! Right now it does not matter if you think if sailor cannons give an advantage or not. At the end of the day some players spent thousands of hours practicing on sailor cannons and made line ups for sailor cannons.
Most of my crew refuses to use anything but sailor cannons, which I understand after spending so much time practicing it and learning line ups for it. As a result it is getting incredibly tedious to not be able to customize the cannons due to my crew (understandably) demanding sailor cannons.
