Capture and owning a Sea Fort

  • I have an idea, let’s be able to capture a Sea Fort and actually be able to respawn on the fort.

My idea is simple, put a flag box on top of the Sea Forts that has the ability to put up flags. Give us the ability to make an alliance with the fort. Once allianced with the fort, you can spawn there if your ship sinks. This will allow you to defend the fort from other players. You can even put a mark on the map saying that it’s player occupied.

Rare can give us an option to lock our treasure in the Sea fort vault and if another player kills us, a key would drop allowing the enemy to steal the key and our treasure.

As for the fort alliance, make it so we can only alliance with a single fort and we can’t alliance with a fort if we are in an alliance already. An enemy could overtake the fort and disband your connection to the fort. However the disbanding would take a minute and the crew would receive a notification that their connection is in danger or lost.

Any thoughts or suggestions to my idea?

  • Maybe you can also decorate the inside with your trinkets.

I have way too many for my little sloop.

  • Puts up pvp flag.

    leaves fort

Then if you die, you respawn at the Sea Fort away from your ship. Mermaids would teleport you to the Sea Fort instead of your ship.

To return to your ship, you would have to break the alliance with the fort and remove the “PvP Flag” as you say

  • Why would I bother hauling treasure back to a fort where it can be stolen when I could just turn it in and have it be safe forever?

This also creates a huge problem with server merges, particularly what if you need to merge two crews who own the same fort on different servers together. Either the fort status and loot stays behind and gets destroyed with the old server, or you get some kind of collision on the new server. Both outcomes are bad.

There is also the issue of spawn camping, and you can't really scuttle a fort so there needs to be a way to get out of the possibility of constantly spawning into a bad situation.

  • But who is gonna attack player controlled Forts? Why bother if not knowing if they have any worthy treasures?

What if I want a fort and just wait for the owner to disconnect?

Yeah. I don't think you understand either side of the fence you're trying to straddle...

  • I gotta say, there is a lot of negative feedback on this. Many people are asking for more PvP elements on Sea of Thieves. This would add to that plus the fun of owning a fort.

If you want a reason to do it, how about time progressing treasure? Add a new type of treasure that increases in value over time. Put a bunch of crates scattered around the Sea Fort when it’s active. Make the crates worth 0 gold. Put them in the vault and let them increase in value over time. Let’s say earn 10,000 gold for each hour of real time. For enemies, they would be at full value if they manage to kill the players a certain number of times. This way alliance servers can’t farm them
