Save current pirate and switch between others

I guess it depends on the player, I love the hard reset side of a game, and grinding out a fresh new pirate. After completing the game I have before deleted my pirate just to experience it all over again.

Again, it depends on what you as a single person like, but as this is something alot of people enjoy why not add it?

  • I don't know if XBox Family Share works on PC, and/or with games that were purchased instead of using the GamePass, I play on PC with a version from Microsoft Store so I don't know if it is possible.

I think multiple characters could work if:
    • Each pirate has their own adventure, their own commendations and inventories. So players that want an specific cosmetic on multiple characters will have to do the same commendation on each of their pirates.

    or:
    • All the pirates in the same account share all the cosmetics, commendations and reputation, but only the first pirate slot is free, the 2nd, 3rd and so on would cost ancient coins. To unlock more character slots you have to earn that currency. And the cost of each character slot would be a bit more expensive than the pirate appereance potion. The inventories with the cosmetics would be shared between pirates. The task is to earn those coins to unlock the right to use more than one character.

I've seen other games that have multiple custom characters, and I think Sea of Thieves has the potential to allow something awesome like that too. Of course, those who just want to stick with their current pirate can keep them and they would have no use for a feature like this. But the addition of a list of playable pirates, instead of a single one wouldn't do any harm to the game, in my opinion.

Also captaincy has invalidated thousands of hours of players past progress

How exactly? It didn't remove previously completed accomplishments. It only asked you to repeat them, or do even more. Don't lie to yourself simply because you got bored or aren't willing to continue challenging yourself, you salty dog! 🧂🐶

  • lovely idea

  • Rare, please listen to this man. I want both a skinny dude and a fat dude, a female pirate and an old lady.

  • yeah, we need it. even if you want to take our money away for that. This will also help in reducing alt accounts of pirates who just want to play with other characters.

  • The pirate potion exists to fill this gap.

  • A fine idea!
There is no reason to deny another pirate cept to make money from the change pirate potion..
A second or third pirate would let people play with variety..
Take cosplayers for example.. which i am not. But, this would be a great addition for them!
You could have both a male & female pirate.. or even a non bionary pirate.. if that's a thing.
You could have both a phat & a skinny pirate..
    a nice & naughty pirate..

Streamers could stay incognito much easier..

i dont see a bad side..
cept RARE not making money from the pirate appearance potion.
but they could put extrta pirate slots behind a Ancient Coin pay wall, nbd.

I don't think that would be the case, as this thread shows some players aren't interested in extra toons so the would continue using the appearance potion.
Putting extra pirate slots up for Ancient Coins, along side the potion would be win win for Rare.

    i agree.
i wasnt being sarcastic or anything, i was being for reals.
    Seems like a good idea.
Id pay for another pirate to level up..
(tho id prefer a prestige system)

  • Well, the pirate potion costs 150 ancient coins. And it seems that once you choose your new character you can never go back to the original one.

I wish we could have more than one without losing the others.

As I said, they could make it that each pirate has their own inventory and unlocked cosmetics (so if you want an specific outfit for multiple characters you would have to play as each one of them and unlock it on each pirate).

Or they could make it that Pirate A is free, after that you could pay like 500 ancient coins or whatever the developers would choose to unlock a slot for Pirate B, and a other for 500 for Pirate C and so on, but that means they could share the same inventory from your account. Pirate A, B and C can use any item the others unlocked.

In my opinion any of these methods would not invalidate the appereance potion. (Also they could make it that you pay ancient coins for each extra slot and on top of that each pirate has their own separate inventory).

Some people would like to play as more than one pirate. Unfortunately for us the game only allow us to have one at the moment. I don't see any negative impact on having multiple characters.

I personally don't understand the argument of "Your pirate is you, you can't inmerse yourself if you are constantly switching". I think inmersion depends on the player rather than the game, some may take it seriously other don't, I'm a very skinny guy in the real world, but I wanted to play as a fat pirate in the game, it doesn't reflect who really am I. I just want to play as a female pirate every now and then without losing the fat guy I've been playing since launch.
