  • @pumpkin3740 Ahoy!

There is a thread for Custom servers here.

Sea of Thieves will always be a shared world adventure game, with elements of both PvP and PvE but Joe did speak about Custom Servers about a year ago. These servers will not offer Gold or progression IF they become available to the public. Private Servers are still being tested with our Partners.

  • I think it would be cool to have private games where the game maker can make up custom games, without xp and gold of course. Kinda similar to what private games look like in overwatch. I mean the new adventure is a perfect example of how many people just want to tdm so why not have a private server for just tdm when the host can allow tdm on a island without naval. Or maybe a game host wants to make a battle royal with a shrinking map. I think having more tools to make random game modes would be silly and a nice change of pace from only adventure.

  • Maybe maybe not

  • nooooooo

  • No. Sorry.

  • @fretfulfiber809 There's some info in one of the latest podcasts too... from this year.

  • @fretfulfiber809 Not that I know of but it starts at 52:15 here:

  • They have custom servers for content creators who want to have events or contests. But private servers would totally be the opposite of what this game is about dude. It's about being a pirate, pirates steal and loot.

  • @ssolutionss that's called Arena, and they shut it down cause only 1% of players used it.

  • @p4l3ryder no arena is not having custom servers for events. Arena was a quick version on Sea of Thieves, where players could jump in and play quickly. It was shut down because of the % play time, not % of player base who used arena.

  • @captain-coel pretty sure either way it was 1% guy. Potato, potatoe

  • @p4l3ryder They aren't the same though. let's use 2% for this example

Using generous numbers to make math easier.

If you have a monthly active users of 1,000,000 players and let's assume they log a total of 10,000,000 hours of game play every month.

2% of the player base doing an activity is only going to be 20,000 players.

2% of playtime is going to be 200,000 hours. Those 200,000 hours could be spread wildly.

Could be crazy arena mains playing 40 hrs a week, 160 hrs a month. This would only be 1,250 people using arena (0.125%). On the flip side it could be people doing it occasionally maybe only an hour a month, then it's 200,000 people (20%).

While the play time was 2% during the one announcement, because of higher volume players and some people avoiding it all together the percent who played arena was drastically lower than the percent of play time spent there.

  • @captain-coel bro your going way to deep. Kudos on the math. Your right though, I admit defeat.

  • @p4l3ryder math is my thing, sorry. I am also one of the people that is saddened that arena was taken out, not because it was a good game mode but because it let me and friends easily have some very good entertainment amongst each other.

  • There is actually several Alliance Servers out there. I am apart of one and I love it, you rarely have to worry about people sinking you and the money just flows in.

  • @chimeraepidemic sagte in Private Server:

Sounds pretty boring without the fear other ships create...maybe every now and then a session in there, but in long-term, this would kill the game for me

  • @schwammlgott I really enjoy it. I am not a huge PvP person though I don't mind combat sometimes. But for people who just want to play the game in general without the fear, its a great alternative.

  • I think keeping private servers just for content creators is pretty garbage.
I don’t see a reason why people can’t just make a server out in a password and sail without progression.

It would enable groups of players to make their own content such as races, attacking and defending forts in a pvp setting and so much more.

Heck, even guilds and groups would have a space to meet up and play together. It seems like a good idea to me. It’s a shame only some people like streamers have access to this.
