Best cannon for accuracy? And quick tip how to 2x your hit %

  • I vote that esteemed reaper cannons are the best for accuracy. My rationale is they have a number of distinct markings on the barrel that act as a rangefinder.

This leads me to the quick tip. For years I've always shot using the angle, meaning if the ship were far away you fire a shot see where it landed adjust and then find a feature in the sky or on the mast to shoot at.

Forget all that, the intuitive method is complete trash. And I considered myself a good gunner before I found this trick (as I'm sure others have found already).

Use the barrel to Guage distance and just aim right through the barrel. For instance imagine you had a barrel with a ruler on it. 1-12.

The further the target the more you raise your angle, but what this effectively does is it raises the marks on the ruler on the barrel. So Maybe the target is centered on the mark 4. Or mark 6. Or 12. Etc.

So rather than finding some distant target or cloud or top of mast or whatever to shoot at. Just line the mark up on the hull of the ship.

This simple change to your gunnery is guaranteed to 2x your skill.

  • I'd have to see the cannons to be sure, but vertical markings with no way to gauge distance (you need horizontal markings for that) never did much for me.
Apart from eyeballing it, if it's long range I like to deliberately shoot low and walk the shots up to the target.

  • @idneon The "crosshair" on those cannons make them inaccurate. I'd never use these cannons. Personally I prefer default cannons or its variants. Ghost and barnacle cannons are pretty good too since they are even narrower than default.

  • The "best" cannons for accuracy entirely depends on you and what you get used to, im always the guy on the cannon, but unless its some variant of default, my aim starts struggling.

Familiarity will improve your aim no matter what cannon (or gun for that matter lol) you use. I worked the original bone crusher pistol for a long time because I learned how to aim it.

    Stop complaining about canons

  • @moogbeard I don't see what you mean? I have never seen a "crosshair" on any cannon. And I've never had a problem aiming with ridiculous cannons. I'm waiting for that beachcomber next lol. I never bought into the idea that flair and cosmetics affect the aiming. Just get used to what you use.

  • @pithyrumble yeah I use the bone crusher gear too. Love it but not the ship cosmetics except capstan and wheel

I have 5 of them. You can look at them yourself, if you want to know what they are like.

  • @idneon The reaper cannons have an iron sight.

  • The magpie's glory/legendary spirit set is also a favorite of mine, but I'm switching my own ship from bilge rat to party boat as I get the last commendations.
