Self portrait

  • Every self respecting pirate captain in film and literature has had a portrait of themselves in their captains quarters.

On the load screen above the words sea of thieves, there is a nice portrait of Merrick. Whilst waiting to load in, it occurred to me that now we can hang pictures, it would be super cool to have a portrait of our own pirates pulling an emote, or surrounded by loot, or any other scenario that could be screen shotted.

Forget me, let me have a picture of my dog.

  • @mr-whaletoes, a pic of my pirate with her pet!

Pics that you take with crew would be awesome to hang in the ship too. Maybe (fingers crossed) it’s coming?

  • @rosiedoe1107 The possibilities are endless.
I think it would be a nice addition

  • First one costs gold. You have to pay 5$ (real life money) to change the picture...🙄

    (I was being sarcastic btw...)

  • I’m sure there would be some lovely portraits including some of the beautiful scenery in SOT

  • @pabio-escobar, I agree! So many good screenshots to have framed.

@PithyRumble, it seems to be the pattern though. ☹️

  • Not a bad idea.

BUT i wonder how Rare would implement it. All the trinkets we have are the same for everyone, and when the game loads in the stuff, (there is (probably) some kind of pointer/link to a file locally on our drive), the asset gets displayed on our screen. Now if i take a picture of myself, and put it on the wall in my ship, that means the other players do not have that picture, and they have to download it. So when i make a new picture, i kind of create a new trinket. So if we have 200K players that do this, we have 200K new trinkets. So im not sure how Rare would handle this, as a direct download when a player encounters a new picture/trinket does not sound plausible. One solution would be that only you (and perhaps your crew) can see your taken picture, and other players/crews only see a placeholder/generic captain picture.

  • I believe this was discussed a while ago, Rare even made a prototype of canvas to paint in game screenshots and hang them as paintings. However this feature took up too much memory and is unfortunately something that we will never see unless they find a work around.

    Spoilsport lol.

I know nothing about programming. But what you say seems to make some sense
