A new PVP faction

Yeah that's true. I was thinking trade route patrols then maybe. A safer place for new players to learn mechanics better than starter voyage map.

It's still a relatively small map for something like that, too easy to bump into one without another player even being there.

  • no matter what the idea of a new pvp and only pvp faction is cool as hell but like always someone is going to have a problem with it because some people like pvp and some like pve

  • @tripolarvirus
My point was more on the lines of something like allowing new player to learn through pve. If you want to pvp there are emissary flags that give the same rewards that were introduced above, instead of randomly giving em out for every thing. In the end you will have a smaller community which will struggle to keep thr lights on if new players are constantly merked

  • @scheneighnay
Yeah as lomg as thr map what it is it would be hard. But trade routes are lake roads between certain spots like around sanctuary and Lone cove area would be a decent area

Give players a separate game mode, something like the Maiden Voyage. The game mode contains a skeleton sloop that respawns a few minutes after it was sunk, some skeletons and ocean crawlers on an island, and some practice targets that people can shoot at from the ship while circling it or stationary etc... So people can just train there and new people can get an idea of how the game works. The skelly sloop is for micro-managing alone while also boarding practice.

You can also join with friends, Brig and Galley crews will get a Skeleton Galleon to fight.

You do realize that you just described the PvE aspect of adventure mode in it’s entirety right?

    • Only one crew is ever present on an instance like this, for training purposes.
    • No loot of any type is generated by sunken or vanquished enemies on this instance.
    • All types of progression is disabled in this mode.
    • There are no trading companies present on this instance, only a singular island and some open sea around it.

The whole idea here is to give new and veteran players a safer way to work on their skills so when they go into adventure mode, they are more capable of dealing with the dangers ahead. I despise the idea of a PvE server where people can progress everything without the dangers of other players sinking them.

  • @kozakderg don't need a crew to take out a skelli gally. Point is kinda simple. If thr pve continue to leave. Then leaving pvp, alot of players just pve or pvp. If they are all gone pvpers will end up spending all their time on land, looken for loot. You much have both. Adding patrols or even patrolled routes in small areas u give new players a little more chance. Be honest patrol ships will slow people down won't stop thrm

  • @robby0316 can't pull thrm fully from the map or they will not learn fully. Pve is only part of it. It about not taken thrm outta the maps it's about adding something for thrm. Not to mention it will add a whole new game dynamic to the game

But new players might need a crew if they want to be more confident on the seas. The more important part of a training instance like this is to give new pirates an outlet to learn the game and become somewhat capable so they don't get absolutely trashed on, in the first days of Adventure Mode.

The game doesn't need to be extra harsh, sure it's Sea of Thieves, but the game shouldn't feel like it's detrimental to play to new players. Watching hours of Youtube guides and tutorials won't get you far without actually building muscle memory.

EDIT: I am sticking with this game, because my friends are all playing it and I like this game a lot. But I would be lying if I said I didn't nearly suffer a brain aneurysm at least a few times trying to get the hang of this game and being bullied by more experienced crews.

  • @kozakderg
Yeah I understand. My only point is new players having a little protection wouldn't hurt. Plus wouldn't stop pvp make it more challenging to go after new players.
I have grinded my teeth too. I like pvp and pvp. I'm just tired watching so many leave.
Am I thr only one who remembers what it was like in the begining, how many people were playing maps full servers full. So many gave up cause they had no chance. So many still do.
The ones who have kept playing are getting less and less. A good crew is essential on big runs. I legend myself in the first year before they made it so much faster to do, by being a solo player.

I don't think it's a good idea to mess with the current Adventure mode and add more roaming NPCs to the current world, since a skelly galleon and kraken spawning on you back to back is already a headache to deal with, then add these patrol ships to the equation. The world can have things to do in it, but it shouldn't be bloated, otherwise it will just turn more PvE and PvP players will be less inclined to engage.

Maiden Voyage works well already, you can kinda use the island's highest point to sail around and shoot it with the cannon or pick a small target and try to hit it consistently. A training grounds mode for newer players or anyone really would be nice to learn more of the mechanics and hone your skills as much as you can.

Nothing will ever prepare you for absolute PvP though. It's just an unknown variable. The people attacking you could be dogwater, or they could be experienced with thousands of hours. Ship and flag stereotypes or not, you can never prepare fully for a PvP encounter and predict the outcome before it begins.

EDIT: Just today we decided to go to TWO duo sloops who were doing an FoTD event for the purpose of stealing their Chest of Legends. I didn't expect us to come out of the encounter victorious, but my expectations were wildly different than the actual outcome, we sank both duo sloops twice, stole the Chest of Legends and turned it in. The worst case scenario turned into a best case scenario. As I said, whatever happens, you can never fully predict the outcome of any PvP encounter.

Adding patrol ships to guard a player ship won't make any difference, since you can predict the NPC ships as they are just programmed entities with a set of functions and commands. The enemy could very well sink those ships in less than a minute each while causing chaos on the inexperienced player ship, then it's the same old story all over again.

  • the pvp post's have been going mental I hope rare is watching :)

  • @tripolarvirus
Considering that they just keep making the same design mistakes over and over with every adventure, I doubt they come here at all.
