Fps drop with a strong computer

  • I would like to ask for help due to the frequent FPS drop that my game has.

So, first of all, those are my specs:
    Processor: amd ryzen 5600x
Graphic Card: AMD Radeon RX 6950XT
    RAM: 32GB
    SSD:300 GB
    Montior:1080P 244HRZ

I bought a new graphics card I moved from GTX 1080 ti to AMD RX6950XT and I played other games Before sea of thieves and everything was excellent all the games that I played I had 270+fps and when I loggaed into sea of thieves with friends I'm getting fps drop and frizzing a little bit and I try to check my drivers and update the game and I tried everything in mythical I'm getting around 60-140 and in cursed I'm getting 150=220 I know its sounds fine but I play PVP and I try to get the maximum fps that my monitor needs that is 244HRZ and I fell that the game not smooth like the other games the I played before so I'm playing right now with all the graphics cursed until I found the problem and when I had the 1080 ti I never had those fps drop that I'm getting now in cursed I got I think Around 220-230

  • I have the same isue ,i have a full amd setup to ,did you find a fix for the fps drop

  • Sea of Thieves seems to be very CPU bound in certain areas, such as outposts and large islands full of flora. But it doesn't use more than two cores really. With the game running on AMD CPUs, you can see SMT only working across two cores/four threads - which is why your overall CPU usage will report low numbers.

Not great utilisation - considering both Xbox Series consoles use AMD Zen 2 APUs with 8 Cores, I would have expected better. Intel CPUs have usually had better single core performance so it could be why they might perform better with the game... but I'm on a slightly-overclocked Ryzen 7 3800XT, currently, so can't confirm that theory.

In any case, being CPU bound means your GPU isn't going to overcome the low framerates on its own. For example, I recently went from an RTX 2070Super to an RTX 3070ti and I've barely noticed any difference in Sea of Thieves' performance playing at 1440p.

(Could be worse though, we could be in a scenario like The Last of Us on PC where the game is heavily reliant on having more than 8GB of VRAM to run well at all.)

  • I have a reasonably strong computer as well

    11th gen i9
    32 GB ram
    Laptop 3070

and yet I still run into these issues. Used to play on like 7th gen i7 and R590 and had fewer issues. I was playing at Mythical settings on 1440p getting 150+ frames. Then all of a sudden run into fps issues and rarely get over 30 without having to lower graphics settings. I've tried driver and windows updates not sure what to do next besides a complete reinstall. Let me know if you found any good solution, thanks.
