Logbook price rebalancing

  • I think the logbook needs some tinkering. Maybe rebalancing the prices for selling it to Flamey Boy.

    • Default: 1000 gold
    • 3 Hours: 3000 gold
    • 5 Hours: 6000 gold
    • 6+ Hours: 20000 gold
Also maybe add a Reaper commendation, like sell 50 logbooks to the RB which unlocks a title or a cosmetic. Right now we get only the xbox achievement for reading one.

  • @blazebeard2313 It is true that I couldn't be bothered to sell the logbooks I get my hands on. The vast majority of them are worth 300 golds. Not worth a voyage to Reaper's Hideout

That being said, I wouldn't bother going to Reaper's Hideout for less than 20k so I'm not sure that increasing the reward would be a better solution than simply allowing them to be sold at a regular outpost.

  • @grog-minto well, I personally consider them as part of the "honour" of a pirate, just like flags. If I sink someone and I obtain their logbook I'm a criminal, a rogue that goes against the fair trade of regular outpost, so it makes sense to sell to RB. Btw, having for them prices similar to Siren bottles would be better, even considering the Reaper Flag multiplier when selling, that right now adds only 150 gold. XD

  • @blazebeard2313 Oh yeah, I wasn't speaking from a theme first point of view. Thematically it makes sense that you can only sell the at reapers.
I misunderstood your post to be honest, I thought you were aiming to make them appealing to everyone, not make them more worthwile for Reaper emissaries specifically. :)

  • The log values are bugged. They are supposed to be worth more.

  • the issue i have with increasing the logbook money is that it encourages random sinking of people who might not have anything on board, including just loaded into the game and still at dock

yes, it happens already, but once you tie a significant monetary reward to it it will be incentivized and rewarded. I think the logbook should remain a little bonus on top of whatever you get from the ship you sunk, instead of a reason to sink it

currently if someone spyglasses you, it's not guaranteed your'e getting anything worthwhile from sinking them, especially if they aren't running an emissary flag, but if you increase the reward too much then it'll be immediate 'sink every captained ship you see'

unlike Emissary, which gives you a extra gold and reputation reward for using, AND can be opted into and out of at will while in a session, being a captain has to be done on the main menu without knowledge of the server you're going into, cannot just be lowered if you don't want to be a Reaper's target, and doesn't give you any benefits since it just tracks stats

TL:DR: Logbooks should not be a huge reward and a reason to sink people, but instead a bonus loot on top of whatever you got from sinking the ship in the first place. They should not be a 'emissary flag 2.0' with all the risks and none of the rewards

  • @jynn-n-tonic yeah, makes sense I suppose. At this point they could simply be treated as a memento for the crew to read all their adventures before logging out, and also giving enemies the opportunity to read it to know what a crew is doing and if it's worth to hunt. I didn't think about the fact that people could take it as an excuse to sink people on sight.

  • @blazebeard2313 They should change Logbooks so they do not drop as loot until you’ve been at sea for 1-2 in game days.

I find so many at Outposts from people who’ve evidently just logged in to buy something and back out again. While I won’t complain about getting free money and rep, I can’t imagine them floating around helps server stability.

They are supposed to be worth more the longer you’ve sailed un-sunk, but as @PithyRumble mentioned the values are currently bugged rewarding 300 for almost everything. I’ve only once had a Logbook worth over 1000 and haven’t had again since.

If they can deter sinking a freshly spawned ship then I’d be all up for increasing their value, but as it currently stands we do not want to encourage going after more unmanned ships at Outposts.

TL;DR. Logbooks shouldn’t be worth anything until you’ve set sail into open ocean.

  • This would encourage more Flameheart to sink more ships just to gain a logbook
Regardless of how long they been out at sea.

The current prices are just something to say. Okie here some free gold enjoy.

  • Rare should look into adding another company to the Sea - the Historians, with whom you could sell your logbooks to at each outpost to keep a record of your crew's travels and Adventures upon the Sea after your journey is done. Perhaps Umbra could be its leader?

Here are a couple of good locations for them:
