Captain Log Books

  • I am a simple fisherman who does not play enough to be a good PVP player so I never fly emissary. But now I feel as if it doesn't matter. People are coming for me because they know I'm an easy sink to get my captain log book. I do go days and days without sinking due to the fact that I don't PVP much. So my log book will be valuable. It's frustrating that emissaries will come after me no matter what, even without any loot on my ship. I have nothing valuable, and I'm not fun. It's frustrating to me and I feel like something should change. Like the book is only valuable if you fly emissary. What else would they want from a non emissary ship with no loot? It does nothing for them.

  • @beansbeats You can deter them by opting to scuttle every now and again, which will keep your logbook at a measly 300 Gold. I believe it increases at “5 days at sea” which is a little more than an hour of playtime.

Not a perfect solution here by any means, but you have an upper hand when the inevitable comes.

  • SOLUTION:

Use a rental ship, not a captained one.

Logbook is currently bugged. Even 14 days is worth 300 gold.

    Sounds like Rare.

That’s not the experience I’ve had. We sold one yesterday evening for over 1000 Gold that was floating at Reaper’s Hideout (no emissary/ golden hour bonus) 🤔

Me and a lot of streamers (One might or might not have a goat) can disagree.

Mr. Crispy birthday boi Goat farmer sold a 14 day Logbook for 300 gold.

I sold a 4 day Logbook and a 14 day Logbook and got 30p for each.

  • How is another crew going to know the value of your logbook prior to acquiring it? It’s easy to tell emissary grade from the flag; as far as I know there’s no way to tell anything about the value of a logbook until the ship is sunk.

Now, if the argument is that the mere possibility of getting a valuable logbook is inciting more PvP, I can understand, if not agree (seems like most PvP is motivated either by the love of combat or griefing/bullying, not profit).

There is. It’s the “Days at Sea” statistic.

You could board a ship to read their Log to find out before you hammer cannons (though most opt to shoot first and ask questions later). More days at sea- the more valuable the log book is meant to be (if it’s not bugged)

  • @thetwistedtaste yep, thanks, I was aware that the value of the book was based on “days at sea” but wasn’t sure if there was a way to determine that at a distance. Sounds like boarding is required, making it harder to hunt for high-value ships and therefore encouraging (if that’s even necessary) a “sink-em-all” approach for those seeking gold via logbook selling. Not that that’s good or bad, just a new dynamic to be aware of for those of us on the seas.

  • Every time you log out does your book not drop in the sea anyway?

I don’t feel like people will be hunting logs. Even with many days at sea they are not that much of a prize with no commendations as far as I know tracking the amount sold.

I think you will be fine to carry on as usual.
