Portable Stools (as seen in News Update)

    I just watched the Sea of Thieves News Update where the portable stool was showcased.

    I’m typically not one to shine a skeptical light before the feature is even released, but why create a portable stool object in the game? They could just as easily created a stool emote and it would produce the same effect. They already have a barrel emote for which we pull a barrel from nowhere to hide. Pulling a stool from nowhere to sit anywhere seems a more optimal choice. Seems an odd design choice to further utilize server computational cycles to render portable stool objects everywhere. I’m just thinking of this from a server stability standpoint. Shrugs For those that wanted the stools, it’s neat the Devs added them.

    Always wanted a stool emote and the closest I got was the lodestar costume emote.

    And now they decided to add something that will proably be a REAL small issue to the servers. Sure, even if its small, it unneccesary. They could have done the same thing AND got people on the emporium with a stool emote.

    I imagine at the company meetings, they discuss their large to-do list that includes stuff like "custom outfits, more audio sliders, faster map movement for controllers," at the bottom, "fix hitreg."

    And at the top of the list, it just says "stool".

    I like to imagine that Harland Williams is a part of the decision making process on out-of-left-field stuff like this because then it becomes pretty darn funny to me.

    I stand (ironically the opposite of sitting) by what I said before on the subject. It's cool and all but I just don't really understand why the stools were seen as such an important addition to QoL for the game? Am I missing something?

    I'm hoping that they have bigger plans for all of the piles of stools that are about to litter the Sea of Thieves. 😅

    I can't wait to see pirates try to pull another's stool right out from under them as they take a squat. 😂

    I was surprised, too. And if this feature is all about having a seat at a nice place, they probably should never have thought about bringing it to the game. Cause I agree, it’s not worth risking server stability for something like this.

    … but maybe it’s not only about having a your own stool. Maybe it’s more about being able to carry stuff and the stool is just one example? I can see how this could be enriching for the game in many ways. Just speculation though.

    There is a weird fascination with sitting in this game. We sat in thrones, then we could sit in specific places and now we can sit on something we can put wherever we want. Can we remove most of the ones on the ships now that there is a stool?
