I think this could be really good for the game, my idea is more like a 1 person boat. When you start the game, add this one-man sailing boat as the 4th ship among the 3 ships you can choose when creating the group.
Even though I am a beginner, I made a simple design in Blender. I think this idea could be really good for this game.

Rowboat with Sail
From what i have heard, the devs did have a 1 man ship concept for a gunboat, but scrapped it very early on. Solo is a very difficult challenge, but thats more from the shortcomings of the sloop, but it seems rare has mentioned awareness for the struggles of the sloop and intend to balance it some how.
After all of my time soloing on a sloop, i would personally never opt for any other ship if it did come out just cause i know that little boat better than the back of my own hand! i have every hole spot down, can catch a mast from falling almost instantly, among many many other things!
That all said, the ability to possibly throw a sail down on a rowboat if you found the right materials for it, could be a bit of fun, but with the shortcomings of the rowboat, and how easy it is to destroy, i wouldnt want to have that as my main source of transport, it would be a very easy target, and with no hole spots to repair, any damage would just stack up until it sunk, and even if the ability to repair it was added, every little cannon shot would just knock you right off.

Adding a sail to a rowboat is a genius idea.
Made by almost literally everyone... 🙄
@galactic-geek It's an idea I really want to see in this game, even though many people don't really take it seriously.

I even put it forth with my own interpretation of it a few months ago, so I can't say I blame you. 😅
@rogenlothena I like the idea. A small sail rowboat would be fun if cuz I've tried rowing between islands way too many times to count and it's so boring I always leave. The row time taken is an hour which I can literally find more loot by restarting the game completely a majority of the time. That or give us more row speed.

@galactic-geek Everything you ever say is super negative.
Not everything... 😒
i like the idea of having a sail on a rowboat , the only thing that i'm doubting a bit is what kind of speed will this have ? i mean , if a sloop has wind against itself ,then a good rower can keep it with a Sloop , so if a sail is added , then maybe it can catch a ship... Okay that is fun for the boarder , but can you see this Forum filled with naggings about the "unfairness" that has been brought to the Sea? But basicly ,i don't say no , on the contrary , they just have to be wise about the speedgain compared to a normal rowboat.

How is this negative then? 🤔
@goldsmen
Really I don't see any point in the gunboat either. Shrinking the sloop wouldn't make it much more manageable. It might just save half a second between tasks.
The core problem of not being able to steer and shoot or repair at the same time would still be there.@scheneighnay I never found steering and shooting/repairing to be much of an issue, if i need a curve for my shots, i hop on the wheel and get it turning, before shooting again, it may pull away from my shooting for a second, but at worst you will probably just miss out on 2 cannon shots before you get back. As for fixing, i just pull away when it seems like a good moment and set my ship in either a strait line away from any rocks or islands, or a wide curve that should bring me back to the fight.
Functionally solo slooping isnt so much about the inability to do things, its about learning when you need to do what things, solo slooping teaches ship management better than anything in this game.
