Tribute for Ell Ran Shan (Captain Ran)

  • I've got a story to share.

Back when this game first debuted, I met this fine older gentleman named Randall. He was an amazing person, mind you he wasn't great with combat. I'll tell you what though, he could take a skeleton fort down by himself. He and I shared so many adventures from the hungering deep up until the end of the mercenary voyages.
I've one tale in particular I'd like to share. It was when the gunpowder staches were being uncovered, Randall and I were in the midst of completing one of these staches and we had a sloop come upon us. The sloop had Glorious Sea Dog cosmetics on but Randall and I, we didn't fret. 😁 We decided to send it. We started the naval fight of our life. Neither of us were going down, mind you we had like a thousand planks, we were set. I'm quite sure our adversary did as well. After awhile of circling around wanderer's refuge one of those dastardly sea dogs managed to get on our boat, let me tell you, this legend just D-estroyed us. We thought that was the end of that session because we both got killed and were respawning.
Randall respawns and doesn't even fight, he just simply asks, "How are you gentlemen, this afternoon?" These guys just cease fire and help us repair our ship! They both replied with they're doing well and other formalities I won't bore you with. We ultimately got to a conversation of age, and turns out the two gentlemen that whooped us were both 24. Randall at the time was 55, I was 17. Huge age gap. Let me tell you though. Doesn't matter. We all hopped on a galleon and conquered the Sea of Thieves for the next few hours. Quite thrilling!
Why do I bring this up? I want you to know that through all the great adventures I had the pleasure of sharing with this man, I didn't lose him to a rage quit due to some toxicity. No we played, didn't matter if we won or lost, we enjoyed the time we had together. I lost him due to stage 4 throat cancer. I recall the last time we had the pleasure of playing, there was a fantastic Sea Dog that destroyed us, however what he said tore Randall up, and hurt me too. After we sunk he screamed through the mic, "You need to die from cancer!!" Mind you, he didn't know, but still. That night was the last opportunity I really had to speak with Randall, and I was trying to make things right by apologizing for what another player yelled at us. No hard feelings.
I just wanted everyone to know Randall, he was my glitterbeard. I hope you know where ever you are, I know you're sailing on that dream boat of yours!

Randall's favorite thing to do in this game was scarf down fish bait and vomit all over. I respectfully request to have a Tribute added for this fine gentleman, Captain Ran, in some way paying homage to his favorite activity. Thank you so much for reading through this.
    Kindest Regards,
    Player of Game2

  • Great story. I'm very sorry for your loss. The seas could use more pirates like your captain.

It's a shame what some idiots say when they play. There are so many creative and funny phrases to use when fighting against a worthy opponent. No need to say such horrid things as this particular low-life did. I'm truly sorry that you and he had to experience that.

I'm glad that you found a true friend and partner on the seas. May the wind always billow his sails where he is now.

Thanks for sharing, pirate, and happy sailing.

  • 😢
    Now I’m sad

I hope they do add a tribute.

  • aye

emptiness never felt so heavy as the absence of a presence that brought light to the day and hope to the sea

there is nothing like it, it's something that everyone eventually goes through but nobody is prepared for, not really, how could anyone prepare for it?

the light still shines while we are here, because they were here
    beautiful existences, fortunate connections
    bright memories, even if painful
reminders that appreciation and pursuit of being considerate to other life are nearly as important to existence as breathing

cheers to the ones we miss
    cheers to Captain Ran

My condolences for your loss, it doesn't make it easier, but it's something
