Add in-game "Manual" system similar to Deep Rock Galactic

  • Ahoy!

One thing that I'd personally like to see added to the game that would encourage exploration and make the learning experience easier on new players, is making a manual that could be just divided into the same categories as they are in DRG. The way they have it set out is:

-Getting started (includes things like absolute basic mechanics, navigation, and assignments)

-Combat (which is VERY specific to DRG in that case, but could easily be developed to go over the stats and playstyles surrounding the different weapons, and later when discovered, unlock information about the Trident and Ashen Winds skull which can be used as alternative weapon types)
-Bestiary (Making info on creatures could be super beneficial; like players fighting gold or shadow skeletons for the first time unlocks a bestiary page that teaches the player how to use mechanics like water to weaken gold and lights to make shadow skeletons vulnerable at night.)
-Planetary regions (For SoT this could be divided into islands and whole regions separately; regions requiring only setting foot on an island in the region, whereas discovering each island requires you to actually visit each one respectively.)
-Missions (Again, divided up to make Tall Tales and Voyages separate catagories (also a spot to recap adventures for players unlucky enough to have missed out))

Having this manual also provides an opportunity to implement the Pirate Academy (https://www.seaofthieves.com/pirate-academy) so that players just starting or returning from a long break aren't completely lost, because the issue now isn't "there's nothing to do" but more "there's too much to choose from"...

    Thoughts?

  • ROCK AND STONE!
    Wait wrong game and planet

That would be wonderful especially for new player however there is some part I think should remain a mystery until discovered/encountered or anything that make it thrilling when the player first see it and get to learn almost everything about it!

    sees a Reaper’s Bounty “We’re RICH!”

  • I've long thought a personal Pirate Journal could be useful for the game where as you do things/see things it adds entries to it that give you more and more information that you can refer back to. Some things could of course be added generally around certain features (or retroactively in some cases - when Emissaries launched is a good example, just add this to it for anyone who has interacted with the Faction Rep before). It could easily flag where new entries are so returning players can get a grasp of some things.

I think discovery and interaction is important though, so I would expect most things to be locked until some trigger has been met (seeing and doing things yourself once). But it would also be handy for when you take breaks to review some information you may have forgotten in the gap. This would also be great for recording lore your Pirate would have encountered in the adventures. Some folks have better memory than others, and some with bad memory would probably fall in love with the lore more if they could look over it when they are playing sometimes more easily and readily rather than having to rehunt down the things where that lore is provided.

I don't think this would really hinder the game a ton. It could also be accessible in the Pirate Profile on the website much like other details can be reviewed there out of game that you can also review in game. I think this would be something wonderful for the game honestly.

  • Did i hear a ROCK and STONE?

  • Then the million dollar question become if something like that was in SoT would the players use it?

My money is on no, I'm not against the idea just not sure if the players would use it...

  • Or just play the game and experience the game. No Manuel or hand holding required.

Best way to swim is to slowly dive in and paddle. Don’t need to read about it.

  • Did I hear a Rock'n'Stone?!!
