My brother and I (we were on a sloop) have just come off sea of thieves very frustrated because we think skeleton ships are way too overpowered and spawn way too frequently. I have spent the last 2 days trying to find all 30 journals in the 6 shrines and have just managed to buy the legend of the sunken kingdom voyage. It was fun and enjoyable through the first shrine but while going to the second shrine we encountered about 3-4 skeleton sloops in the space of around 6-8 minutes. Firstly, I think this spawn rate of the skeleton ships is way too high because as soon as you deal with one another spawns a couple minutes later. Secondly, the skeleton ships are too overpowered in my opinion as the cursed cannonballs are shot too frequently and end up becoming a nuisance rather than a fun challenge every now and then. We ended up sinking and lost the main chest of the voyage. I think this amount of skeleton ship spawns are just ruining the game as losing everything you have worked very hard for is so annoying especially when the voyage costs a lot just to buy and start. What do you think about the skeleton ships? Anything you want to add?
Skeleton ships are way too overpowered
Were you on a sloop and was there a big green Ship shaped cloud in the sky? ( you'd be near Reaper's Hideout, Shipwreck Bay and Northstar Seapost) Getting skeleton galleons spawning on you too? If so you stumbled into the fleet battle with slightly more aggressive skelly ships.
Those are fine, and you can sail away from them since they stay in that area.
If not, methinks your anger has made you exaggerate a little bit about how often they spawned on you.
In general, not overpowered. Hit then with a couple of cannon balls to put a hole or two, then a couple of firebombs (they don't repair if the ship is on fire). If they get close, one of you board and keep the skellies from repairing.
The unlimited sleep/jig balls are way overpowered, especially when you are solo and fighting the two fleet galleons. It's one firing every 10-15 seconds sometimes, with the bot aim.
If we are talking about emergent skeleton ships, usually they scale to size so you're only fighting sloops if on sloop.

Go out to the edge of the aggro area to recover. You're soloing the fleet. It's supposed to be hard by yourself.
If you are solo and go against a Skelleon then yes, it's quite hard if they don't have random kegs spawned on them. If youi are two people, simple let one person board and go downstairs and get a few holes (pref in the brig) so the person on the Skalleon can camp it while the other person keeps the ship alive.

First off. That seems impossible. Unless you somehow sailed across a Fleet world event.
And you said encountered. Are you meaning they spawned on you or they were just sailing around and you got to close.
Second. Overpowered, to some yes when you don’t know how to handle them. Well prepared ship can sink them very easy without much a thought.
@pithyrumble Agree. You can loop in and out of event, they crash into the rocks on the way back for cheese damage. Do that over and over and you don't need to fire at them. I am talking about actually getting into the fleet and not looping around rocks/ having them glitch/crash or etc., arena area. I still do them for practice occasionally, no other reason, and still believe those cursed cannons are a bit OP.
I played for 6 hours the other day and had one skeleton sloop spawn. You, my friend, went through a skeleton fleet. How you missed the banner saying: BATTLE FOR THE SEA OF THIEVES
I don’t know. But there is zero chance that you encountered 3-4 sloops in 6-8 minutes. I reckon there is some exaggeration going on… you didn’t even give an exact number of ships. You were 2?
Here's my personal tactic. Skelly have the mecanic of repairing the ship, not pulling out water
One of you have to get inside and clean up the bildge (inside the ship)Oh, they don't attack you for nothing, you really have to trespass they way or fetch a shot at it
Except when they spawn at you or you're under skeleton fleet's cloud
