A Way To Change Ships

  • Make an npc that you can talk to and open a shop where you can "buy a new ship" and switch between the three ships, Sloop, Galleon and Brigatine by paying some money but you keep all your cannonballs, planks and food and allowing you to invite more friends while keeping your loot.
I think this would be a great additions in Sea Of Thieves

  • @barneydadino108 the risk with this is every time you sink someone, they get more crewmates and come back with a bigger ship. I think allowing downsizing would be OK but going up seems too abuseable

  • There are issues with the servers as they are. How could you change the number of your crewmates in a chock full server?

The issues this proposition will cause overwhelm the convenience in changing crew size on the go.

    Season 7.

    Fixed that for you. 😉

    Me too! I can't wait until S7! 😅

  • @metal-ravage It would force a server migration on you

So you can use it to escape any threats on the server you're on in an instant ?

That would be even more abuseable! Example, I got tons of treasure on board. I get attacked, so I flee, get to an outpost, change ship and it migrates me to another server, with all the loot on board.
Assuming, the forced migration works like the regular (forced) server migration.

  • This could work if they added it to the portal hopping meta. You still lose Voyages and Loot, but you can change your Ship Size and end up on a new server. If we're legitimizing this as a feature as well, you could make it so changing Ship Size requires voting at spots by the Shipwright much like the Emissary system. Majority vote opens up a Portal and you have to sail through and you will be placed on the larger Ship (or smaller Ship) and then new crewmates can join at this time if larger. When Ships load to a server now, since we have a player cap, I think it assumes that a Ship could have a full crew at any time so all Crew slots take a player slot (otherwise it is set to merge if the Player cap is exceeded). So once they are on the larger Ship and going to a new Server it matters not essentially.

Regular portal hop would then be for keeping your same Ship size.

  • @schwammlgott I would imagine it would open the portal and you would sail through it with the usual consequences for your loot. Inside you would find a dock with the other ships moored up. You could then switch to one and sail to another portal which would open after you all boarded the ship and cast off. Raising the anchor and setting sail would scuttle the other ships.

Love it! It's always a PITA when you're well stocked up and another friend wants to jump in (or one wants to leave), starting over from scratch is just tedious.

I had a similar idea posted here once, but the main idea was about the "home-island" behind the portal...On that island there is mist around it and when a player joins, on one side the mist disappears and the home island of that player is there, connected through the dock...4 islands in a circle if full...
Like that it would be possible I guess...

Edit: but then, Rare should do something with the emissary flags...imo we shouldn't be able to carry them over with portal hopping

  • This will be an exploit. Sweat lords will just come changing a ship everytime, people will change the ship type to change servers and escape so this is a total NO for me.

  • @timedsatyr79799
If it is a voyage you have to vote for it would be no different from the current hopping deal. Loot should not carry over.

  • @miserenz
If loot does not carry over im fine
