Grog Update Ideas

  • I know that there have been multiple posts about how we need more variations of grog, so I decided to make a list of concepts:

    1. Phantom grog: when really drunk, the player starts seeing phantoms. They could be jumpscaring players, but would be unable to cause them any harm. The player will be seeing phantoms until the drunken effect wears off.
    2. Coral Grog: drinking it underwater would make the player refill his oxygen levels, essentially elongating his stay under the sea. The downside would be blurred vision and strong vommiting, as well as poor coordination
    3. Serpent Scale Grog: drinking the grog would increase the players sprinting speed by 50% for 1 minute. The downside would be slowly reducing health and the effect of broken legs once the effects wear off
    4. Flaming Grog: gives the player fire and boiling water protection for 1 minute, with the downside of the player having his speed reduced by 50%.
    5. Seer Grog: allows a player to see from the perspective of another random pirate on the server (those are selected randomly, those could even be your teammates). The grog has a 10% chance of giving your a perspective of an animal instead of a player. The user turns nearly blind for 1 minute, with the sight slowly returning to him.
    6. Ferryman's Grog: the potion Ferryman himself drank before becoming a ghost. The player dies, releasing his phantom as an AI controlled unit. It has the intelligence of a phantom reaper, increased health compared to a usual one. Fights other enemies and pirates. The downside is that once the player return to the world of the living it will disappear. If it dies while the player is on ferry, it will appear on it, notifying the player of its loss.

I would like to notify that none of these grogs are intended to be used as a PVP method, more like a fun addition to the game. Grogs could be found in bottles in barrels, and are to be consumed as like food. A player can hold up to 1 bottles at a time, not to make them OP.

  • @guyrza No to all but the 1st - they should not promote an advantage, but having phantoms randomly jump out at you just to scare you would be pretty funny, I think.

It would be even funnier if it simply happened on your 3rd drink+. Things would still get blurry and shaky, and you would puke more than ever, but phantoms, or other fiends, only you could see will jump out into your field of view to block your view and freak you out. No new grog needed.

Sorry to say but I don't think many care about this topic. The idea of something similar to cursed cannonballs but helping you instead could be very interesting. But not many seem to want an advantage applied to players directly. I think that a boon you can only can have one of you on at a time could be a great next thing from cursed cannonballs. It might give some nuance to player combat if the right ones were made. But, frankly, most of these grog ideas that I read on the forums just sound dumb to me. Dumb or giving you an unnecessary advantage. Seer grog? A chance at finding one of the 4 emissaries on your server... Not great.

  • @grumpyw01f that's a fair point. But what about the frogs for fun, like the 1st one? If u played DRG they have some cool staff with beer, so I thought seeing smth similar in SoT would be cool

  • Unless you want the Coast Guard to arrest players for piloting a vessel while drunk, I think we are good with grog as it is.

I find the first one weird because it's not like you'd be surprised when you saw phantoms afterwards. It's called 'Phantom Grog.' But maybe I'm just devoid of humor in this sense.
