Players Who Leave Game Intentionally Still Hold Crew Spot Up Like a Disconnect, Also DC Timer Too Long

  • I started noticing that whenever I had a friend use Leave Game to leave my crew, the Crew Management menu said that they had "disconnected" and that they would be allowed time to rejoin if they wished. Meaning, as I understand it, that if I open up to Open Crew (god have mercy on my mortal soul) an Open Crewer wouldn't be able to join me until that time had elapsed.

Why does Sea of Thieves not seem to know the difference between the app crashing and someone disconnecting, versus someone manually Leaving the Game? If they choose to Leave the Game, it is clear they do not intend to rejoin, so why is my open spot on the crew being held up? Let's be honest, not having someone join from Open Crew could easily end up being for the better, but this seems like it shouldn't be the case.

Also, even with this issue aside, the timer is comically long. I think cutting it in half would be more reasonable. The idea that a DC'd crewmate could take up my spot for what felt like 10 minutes (you can correct my number if I'm wrong) is a little much to bear, when I'm short on hands and vulnerable to full crews.

  • Make sure your friend is actually choosing "leave game".

    Not alt f4.
    Not quit from dashboard.
If they actually choose leave game there is not a problem.

And if there is submit a support ticket so it can be properly investigated. I'd grab some screenshots (or video clip) from both sides of it to show the whole process and issue in action.

  • I think the timer is more like 15 minutes and I agree that it should be cut, imo down to at least 5 minutes because being without a crewmate for that long puts you in a very vulnerable position.

  • Easily 1 of my pet peeves upon the Sea. Leave properly, pirate! It takes like 2 seconds!

  • As said I suspect your friend is doing it wrong

  • I have to say, as a relative noob (playing since December) I’m amazed this is an issue. There is zero guidance in “how to quit the game” though apparently there are non-obvious (to the quitter) in-game consequences.

On PC I almost always choose “Leave game” though occasionally I select “Exit to desktop”. Am I doing it wrong? How would I ever know, as I usually solo or play with my kids and we always quit at the same time?

Maybe the Pirate Lord should speak a few words of wisdom about how to politely exit his realm during the Maiden Voyage…
