So yesterday i wanted to show my crewmate how to get the lantern at Sea Dogs Rest but the chest containing it seems to have dissapeared, i wasn’t expecting an unannounced secret cosmetic to be time limited, or at the very least not dissapear until the mystery was solved, but it’s gone now. Is this a bug or did my crewmate miss out on it?

With intent to resolve this thread for future readers, I have witnessed this bug in person. If you get to the chest and "reach inside", but are not given the lantern, you will need to exit to desktop, reload the game, and try again. This worked for me.

@killzone1401 Actually that is a small but weird issue. Two days ago I was guiding a galleon crew through the steps of the murder mystery so far. When we reached Sea Dog's Rest two of them were able to claim the lantern while the third had to leave the game, restart and join back in order to get it.

Experienced the bug myself on my 1st attempt weeks ago. Can confirm both bug and solution.
I too experienced the bug the first time, but it worked the today (27 August). I did notice that it's not an instantaneous action, but you have to wait for the progress wheel to fill up. I wonder if my mistake the first time - and everyone else's - is to tap the action key/button rather than hold it down.
