Okay, so I tried the Reaper's Path this morning to hilariously bad results.
First, let me preface this by saying that the Reaper rowboats are a pretty cool addition to the game, and I think that they should be a permanent mainstay (if they aren't already), or at least some variation of the gunpowder barrel rowboat (non-Reaper, for example, or have the ability attach barrels to the back of regular rowboats).
In support of Team Merrick, I figured that I'd blow up the rowboats, but since I was on my voyage I decided to keep 1. While at the Hideout, I saw an extra rowboat and was all like I don't need that 1 - I might as well blow it up! And immediately failed the voyage, because I didn't realize that you needed a specific rowboat, much less that the Reaper's Wayfinder even pointed to it. 🤦♂️
No biggie though - I was still at the Hideout, and simply talked to Flameheart Jr. again. I then did a double-take as the part of the island I was just looking at moments before magically had a new rowboat. Checking the Wayfinder, I confirmed that this was the right rowboat. So, I sailed with it all of the way to Twin Groves, only to then realize that the instructions said I had to ROW to Twin Groves. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I tried rowing away from the island and back. No luck... When I reattached it to the ship, God intervened and struck it with lightning from the nearby storm. I revived from the Ferry, but the rowboat did not. Mission failed. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I quickly repaired my boat, and set upon the island with a new goal in mind - While there I buried a lot of my loot that I had acquired beforehand in order to make someone very happy (which included a stronghold gunpowder barrel, several skulls, an ashen key, a reaper's bounty, and a few supply crates, and treasure chests with gems inside). I also happened to find a new Reaper rowboat, and decided to attach it to my ship. I then decided that I would go to North Star Seapost to post my buried loot to the board, and call it a day.
I never made it - well, technically. You see, I decided to see if I could light the fuse to the rowboat, and then detach it from the ship quickly. However a cascade of failures occurred during this process. First, I couldn't light the fuse from the ship, which meant I had to be on the rowboat. So I jumped on the rowboat, thinking that I could light the fuse, and jump back onboard fast enough to detach it. I glitched in between, got stuck, and blew up - that was mistake #2. Just before the explosion, I realized that I had miscalculated the distance to the Seapost, and in my haste with the barrel, neglected to see the Seapost which I then crashed into mere seconds before the explosion - mistake 3. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
No biggie - my ship survived 1 explosion, I told myself. I'll just jump back on and repair it...
...5 seconds later, my ship sank, and I lost all of my buried treasure maps in the process. No chance for a save like before.
So why did my ship sink so much faster with the 1 Reaper barrel, but not the other? They were in the same position, and the hit to the front would have only been a small hole - still not likely to sink quickly. But I digress...
Now nobody was getting rewarded. In despair, I quit the session.
Clearly I'm a terrible Reaper... 🙄
...but at least Merrick will be happy. 😅
