Reaper Rowboats

  • Okay, so I tried the Reaper's Path this morning to hilariously bad results.

First, let me preface this by saying that the Reaper rowboats are a pretty cool addition to the game, and I think that they should be a permanent mainstay (if they aren't already), or at least some variation of the gunpowder barrel rowboat (non-Reaper, for example, or have the ability attach barrels to the back of regular rowboats).

In support of Team Merrick, I figured that I'd blow up the rowboats, but since I was on my voyage I decided to keep 1. While at the Hideout, I saw an extra rowboat and was all like I don't need that 1 - I might as well blow it up! And immediately failed the voyage, because I didn't realize that you needed a specific rowboat, much less that the Reaper's Wayfinder even pointed to it. 🤦‍♂️

No biggie though - I was still at the Hideout, and simply talked to Flameheart Jr. again. I then did a double-take as the part of the island I was just looking at moments before magically had a new rowboat. Checking the Wayfinder, I confirmed that this was the right rowboat. So, I sailed with it all of the way to Twin Groves, only to then realize that the instructions said I had to ROW to Twin Groves. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I tried rowing away from the island and back. No luck... When I reattached it to the ship, God intervened and struck it with lightning from the nearby storm. I revived from the Ferry, but the rowboat did not. Mission failed. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I quickly repaired my boat, and set upon the island with a new goal in mind - While there I buried a lot of my loot that I had acquired beforehand in order to make someone very happy (which included a stronghold gunpowder barrel, several skulls, an ashen key, a reaper's bounty, and a few supply crates, and treasure chests with gems inside). I also happened to find a new Reaper rowboat, and decided to attach it to my ship. I then decided that I would go to North Star Seapost to post my buried loot to the board, and call it a day.

I never made it - well, technically. You see, I decided to see if I could light the fuse to the rowboat, and then detach it from the ship quickly. However a cascade of failures occurred during this process. First, I couldn't light the fuse from the ship, which meant I had to be on the rowboat. So I jumped on the rowboat, thinking that I could light the fuse, and jump back onboard fast enough to detach it. I glitched in between, got stuck, and blew up - that was mistake #2. Just before the explosion, I realized that I had miscalculated the distance to the Seapost, and in my haste with the barrel, neglected to see the Seapost which I then crashed into mere seconds before the explosion - mistake 3. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

No biggie - my ship survived 1 explosion, I told myself. I'll just jump back on and repair it...
...5 seconds later, my ship sank, and I lost all of my buried treasure maps in the process. No chance for a save like before.

So why did my ship sink so much faster with the 1 Reaper barrel, but not the other? They were in the same position, and the hit to the front would have only been a small hole - still not likely to sink quickly. But I digress...

Now nobody was getting rewarded. In despair, I quit the session.

    Clearly I'm a terrible Reaper... 🙄
...but at least Merrick will be happy. 😅

    Funny people miss this XD

  • I do like the Reaperboats, they’re pretty cool.

Hopefully the Adventure is rigged for Flameheart so we can get some more interesting story and plot changes, rather than, “Well done. Thank you. Okay, goodbye!”

  • The reaper path is also kinda weird. While it does say to row, and rarethief claims your ship will scare away the reaper hiding in the bushes, i initially rowed there and the guy wasnt there. I took the mermaid back to my ship and sailed back to just outside the loading screen and cannoned over to the island. Figuring that might reset the island. I figured it was just a glitchy quest. Well taking the mermaid deleted my rowboat and there was still no guy on the island. So i found some random rowboat and rowed to golden sands to blow it up. Had 2 people there trying to defend the place. They didnt stop me from blowing the row boat but didnt get credit as it has to be YOUR specific row boat.

Since these 2 were pretty decent PvPers and clearly wanting to stand and defend golden sands I just joined a new server and tried again. Turns out the row boat needs to be parked really close to where the reaper guy is hidden or he wont come out of hiding. Not sure if your ship itself has any impact on it at all.

These row boats are neat though, Would be cool if they become rare spawns similar to the canon rowboat. Not that ive played a ton since this update but it seems like there are no normal rowboat spawns currently

I didnt. Though it also doesnt say "park right by the NPC spawn point or he wont spawn at all"

This befuddled me. How can you park close to him if you can't see him to even know where it is?

EDIT: Just tried it. The Wayfinder is the key.

    The compass.

I'm not saying it's a good system, but the compass is how you're supposed to do that. It tripped me up when I did this voyage first. Whoever made that part expected the average player to row straight at the compass direction and hit the beach.

    It's not a compass; it's a wayfinder.

  • For anybody serving merrick, I know that
Destroying the rowboats while they're away from golden sands counts as supporting Merrick.

That is what I would do. But since the Rowboats still have resources, I take the resources from the rowboat's chest first, then blow 'em up.

  • Man, this is hard!

Trying again this morning, I completed all of the Reaper Path objectives except for detonating the rowboat at Golden Sands. Upon arriving at Cannon Cove, I discovered a brigantine there that had just beaten an Ashen Lord. I took the opportunity to use the cannon on my Reaper Rowboat to open fire on them. They fired back with EoRs - quite successfully, I might add; they hit me and not the rowboat. Upon respawning, I half expected to fail the voyage again as they detonated the rowboat. Nope - didn't happen. So, I returned to the island to find both the brigantine, and my rowboat, gone. I have spent the last 2 hours searching the Sea for them, and have yet to see either 1, nor have I yet to fail the voyage. My bomb is out there somewhere - along with my revenge. They will rue the day they crossed paths with this terribly terrifying Reaper! 😅

  • @galactic-geek glad I read this before tackling the adventure as I'd have probably fallen foul!

I didn't read you needed 5 players to finish the last adventure until I got to the last bit 🤦‍♂️

  • @galactic-geek its not as much that you need to row to all the islands, your ship cannot be close since the reapers smugglers are quite suspicious and only trust the rowboats being near

Me too. It's like Robin Hood - taking from the bad and giving to the good. 😅

I had to rally a friendly galleon crew during the Shrouded deep for the summoning part.
