The Mystery Begins!

  • @grumpyw01f
No problem! I think, if the retro artwork is something, we should put the character speculation on the backburner for now. (I don't think we have enough information)

I didn't think "1989" could be coordinates. If I'm around Thieves Haven tomorrow, I'll scope around to see if there's anything.

Of course, I just found out that Rare published "Silent Service" in 1989 (a submarine game). So maybe there's a clue underwater somewhere? (maybe underwater near Thieves Haven?)

  • @grumpyw01f Maybe dig at the spot on Sailors bounty where the person in the cover art has their shovel. The rocks look pretty close, there is a dog in the image, and Leopoldo's collar is on the same island.

  • @lucky11
Nevermind, it's not DeMarco. The figure on the right has a pegleg.

  • @talkinggorillas
The place where I took the picture of the rock is on the far north of Sailor's Bounty. The problem is, the rock only kind of looks like the one in the picture, and none of the other scenery matches. I was trying to find the right angle when I was on the island, but I couldn't. So I think there might be another suitable rock somewhere. It's 1 am where I live, I need to quit with the pirate conspiracy theories and go to bed....

    Yesssss great find!

I think we're crazy but.... I've got to have hope.

  • @lucky11 If we find where that island and rock is in the cover art, it's possible there is a shipwreck with a clue where the ship is in the picture. Although, I'd like to think progress towards this mystery isn't locked by new information or cover art that comes out after the mystery started. I honestly believe there is a way to progress this mystery just with the information we received on May 19th and earlier. After we get the true first clue, then I believe Rare will post another video or something.

  • @talkinggorillas
Boulder Cay and Old Salts Atoll are two of the first islands that come to mind. They both have large rocks nearby with shipwrecks a part of the islands themselves.

Maybe Rare is giving us subtle hints as time passes? I'm sure it will become crystal clear with retrospectivity, but I'm having a hard time putting together the "clues" we all have gathered.

  • To me, the retro art looks like the Mysterious Stranger, the Pirate Lord, DeMarco, and Leopoldo, but that could be confirmation bias... I might be finding clues where they don't exist.
Let me know what you think of my 'discoveries' so far.

The character on the left looks like the character they've used for the black dog pack's imagery. Clothing and the pose match, but he appears to be missing the peg leg though.

  • In the update video thumbnail there is a cave with a camp with skeletons maybe that holds a clue but idk where this is

  • @veiledflyer33 The island is plunder valley

  • @talkinggorillas thanks I'm going to see if I can find something

  • @talkinggorillas just checked the cave out and as far as I can tell the caves a dead end nothing of note

  • @grumpyw01f rare released sid miers pirates in 1991 and who killed roger rabbit in 89'

  • @satanz-outlaw
1991 would take you back to the same square if we use NEWS

  • 6 second In To the 💀 video theres a symboli on the rock, like a sword thru a chalice, plunder valley clip in the mysteries video has a chalice on the right side next to the skeletons. Chalice symbols on the banners at the fort and a grave at thieves haven, just rambling and throwing it In to the sea of confusion that is this goose chase

  • My theory at this point is that NEWS takes you to the NEWS website on seaofthieves.com/news. There Mike Chapman ends his article with "Glory awaits!". This is something we can see Demarco saying in the Arena trailer on youtube. Looking at the Sea of Thieves map there is an island called "Sea Dogs Rest", suggesting Demarco is a Sea Dog and has been "put to rest" it was an easy give-away. Only to find a skeleton laying there with Demarco's hat besides it and a bottle of what could possibly be changing poisen. We all know there are paintings of both Demarco and Lesedi wiht throwing knives in them. These could possibly come from Aramanta, who has been a dubbious character all along. My theory is that she could be the new apprentice of the masked stranger, a.k.a. Wonda the Warsmith, as has been suggested by Falcore in his video: "Sea Dog Changes Coming". In this video he explaines in the end-section that there are feathers visible from the second strangers cloak which clearly shows that this second person is Aramanta.

Coming back to the skeleton on the island, the first idea you have that this is Demarco 'cause of his hat laying there. There is a blue bottle near the skeleton which could possible be the bottle you buy from the pirate emporium that let's you change your character. This was also my first idea. My conclusion is that someone knew Amaranta was coming for him and turned him/herself into Demarco while bringing him into safety. This person must have had no fear of dead, ultimately knowing they return from the Ferry. The only question is who could this be?

  • Am I the only one that noticed that alot of these clues have the art of the trickster tall tale in correlation with alot of scenery clues? Grasping at air but just a thought

  • @saxon3913 what do you mean?

  • Merfolk’s Lullaby have set out all the clues so far…

  • @lizalaroo Kudoos for these awesome people!!! Hooray!!!

  • @capt-brookes are you talking about Wanders Workshop? or something new inside there?

  • One north, nine east, eight west, nine south from seadogs rest. Sailed there, soiled myself. I didnt remember that was down there 😅😁. Anyways has this place been combed yet? Its glitchy for some reason and kicked me of the server twice, wich tall tale was this? Seems odd for a pure coincidence. Buried deep n all that

  • @tsokletrain What place are you talking about?

Edit SeaofThieves posted a video about Sea Dogs Rest Atmosphere, I think they want to take this in small steps and first lead people to the skeleton in the video, then go on from there.

  • @stuckartist748
Black Pearl and whatever the Two giant structures are

  • EDIT

BIG FIND - There's the Skeletal Rune for the word BEACH in the spectrogram from the 6min video of Sea Dogs Rest
    alt text

  • @stuckartist748
Those are just notes for the song. Nothing special. The symbol for beach is flipped anyway.

  • @capt-brookes said in The Mystery Begins!:

Hmmm... something occurred to me just now as I look at the body. Demarco's pants were red right? Why are they a different color with a few red spots here and there? Almost looks as if they may have been bleached? Not sure if it'd be that way just from the sun would it?

Sea water and the sun tends to bleach clothing somewhat. I do costuming as a hobby and was doing some research about pirate clothing and distressing it, and it gave Jack Sparrow's vest as an example. The actual color is blue but due to the sun, the sea, and time, it's a really faded blue, almost aubergine like color.

Linking this back to DeMarco, it's possible he spent some time in the water.

  • Why does the corpse have all DeMarco's clothing except his coat?

  • Anyone notice how his amulet has a gem that looks a lot like Veil Stone?

  • @lizalaroo Just a quick question if there are more clues for us to find somewhere in the Sea of Thieves? Not asking for a hint as to where to look or how to find anything, but just wondering if there's something we have yet to find or not.

Also as for people pointing out that bottle I noticed that Demarco had that bottle on his belt if you look at his picture. Not too sure if it means much of anything, just shows more that it may be him. :(

  • @lukadra He always wore that amulet.

  • @tsokletrain I found the same mark on another rock when I was exploring Thieves' Haven, right behind the three graves they show in the Mystery video. It's not unique to Sea Dog's Rest, but it could just be an ordinary rock texture too.

  • @grumpyw01f
Just to update this: I checked out Thieves' Haven. I didn't find anything that stood out to me or that seemed different from any other time I've docked at the island. Maybe someone else has a better eye for clues/finite details then I do though?

On the plus side, Rare has acknowledged the "1989" Retro advertisement as a clue. I think you are right in that we are suppose to use the numbers 1,9,8, and 9 for coordinates. (whether we are suppose to pair them up with the "NEWS" clue, I'm not sure.) I thought maybe an island could have lined up with N1, E9, W8, and S9, but the only island in any of those coordinates is the Three Paces East Seapost. (maybe Catherine or Annick have seen something?)

I watched Rare's Sunday Vibes tweet as well. Something definitely feels off about the video, but again, I can't put my finger on it.

Same here. Some information is out there, but there are no connections yet.
