Lighthouses

  • I think the introduction of a few lighthouses to the map would be a very atmospheric addition to SoT.
A small stone lighthouse that would shine out across the sea in fog, storms or at night would be nice to see and could be useful for navigation (especially in fog or storms). Perhaps it could house a bell too for audible navigation in fog.

While these could be additional islets/structures, I think that replacing the seaposts with them makes a lot of sense. You wouldn't have to change the current seapost function, the hunter's call and the shops could still be there, but the current shop keepers could become lighthouse keepers as well. In the case of Sudds, his lighthouse could maybe be a bit more of an observatory, with a telescope or something.

Perhaps this could be a stand-alone thing or worked in to a hunter's call rework in future.

  • Neat.

The sea of the damned light house was awesome. I’d enjoy seeing something similar built, revealed by the shroud, or brought in from the sea of Damned one day.

  • I would be open to seeing this. Seaposts wouldn't be a terrible option for it either, as you suggest as it would give a little more atmosphere and lore based function to the locations (since them just being random shops mostly out on some rocks is a little weird admittedly).

  • @redeyesith Yeah, I can understand why the hunter's call hangs out on a random jetty fishing but the shops never made sense to me. Make them lighthouse keepers and it gives them a reason to be there.

  • @hooleygan6826 Seapost shops need a MASSIVE rework or re-imagining, they are functionally useless as of right now, providing a measly discount on default items isn't a big incentive to bother with them. I would love to see them shaken up in any manner to provide a more interesting approach to them. Too late now, but having them sell recolours only, or something along those lines, would even have worked. Lighthouse keepers would be pretty cool, but would arguably make the actual NPC's more irrelevant.

I imagine they could still sell items as lighthouse keepers, there's no reason they'd have to stop. Perhaps for an added feature, they could give you a quest where they would shine their light at something (perhaps and island or a shipwreck) and you would have to follow the light to do the quest, either dig something up or retrieve some supplies for them.
