so i am an avid Cthulhu and H.P Lovecraft fan and i feel as though Cthulhu would be a great boss for end game content. i think that he has a chance to spawn like the kraken so when the sea goes dark its a percentage chance to be a kraken or Cthulhu. if that is not a suitable gameplay choice then maybe you could follow the ritual like in the mythos and summon him.
how would he work?
-once summoned he will rise out of the water and begin to travel the sea
-you must follow him and attack him to commence the battle
-he would hold some of the same properties for attacking as the kraken (slap, grab etc.)
-throughout the battle he will give off a new debuff, insanity.
-the longer the debuff is active, the more insane you get (it would be close to the drunk effect, blurry vision etc.)
-he will take longer to kill depending on ship size like all bosses
-throughout the fight he could spawn in ocean crawlers to save on more development
rewards?
because Cthulhu would be a massive boss, he should drop a decent amount of loot. i personally think that he should drop new loot instead of the same old loot every other boss drops. i also think a new group of vendors should become apparent called the cult. this cult would be worshippers of Cthulhu who will accept any loot that comes from him. i think one drop from him should be his own flesh as a food source that also gives off the insanity debuff, you can also trade this in with the vendors
i'd love to hear your thoughts on this and im open to more suggestions to improve this idea
