axe new melee weapon

  • the axe as a new weapon:

    primary attack: it's a double attack. The first strike from below above the head diagonally. Same speed and damage as the sword. Second strike down in the oposite direction with some delay, but gives 50 dmg.

    Secondary attack: both arms with axe above head and chop in front of you. This gives 100 dmg or if it hits the ship it makes one hole. After this attack, there will be an animation of him pulling out the stuck axe. The attack has no glide like a sword.

    I like that all weapon damage in the game is equal between all the players. I like that we all have access to the same weapons.
    I like that we have different looking weapons.
    I wouldn't like to meet "Mr. Axe Wielder" and remember I left my axe on the ship!
    Besides, I don't recall any pirate wielding axes.
    I vote against it.

    It would be same like you can always have 2 weapons from sword, pistol, blunderbust and eye of reach. with axe will be more 2 from 4.

    The boarding axe was pretty common during the age of pirates. But also... I don't recall hearing about pirates launching themselves out of cannons back then either.

    Well, my bad...I learned something today! There is such a thing as a boarding axe. :)

  • I would be down for it. Even if it is not a new weapon (weapon balancing is complicated enough as it is with 3 weapons) but just a skin for the cutlass it would be nice to have more options. We got a crossbow skin for the eye of reach two or three season ago and it looks great, even if it fire bullets.

  • Using a melee weapon to put holes into a ship would be too OP.

    Kill the crew, then see how many holes and water you could put into their ship before they respawn - instant advantage.

    I kinda feel after you died you get spawn camped anyway and I wanna that pulling out the stuck axe is like for 4 sec.

  • @gipperseadog I recall seeing axes being used in POTC, and since well POTC and SOT are linked it wouldn’t be a problem.
