Ship ideas/game mechanics

    • THROW THE WHEEL...
Give the helmsman the ability to throw the wheel (like you see in the movies)... for that last second chance to avoid colliding into other ships or other dangers, the turning is so slow you have no chance, whilst on helm you only get left, right and the command scroll wheel, LT and RT (I'm on xbox so no idea what pc is) don't do anything, so why not utilise one/both say [hold] LT + direction then you spin the wheel freely that direction till its full lock...

    • SHIP OPTIONS

    • harpoon or cannon
OK what if we had a option to have either a harpoon or mini cannon on the front of the ship? Obviously there's pros and cons to this... (pros) slight advantage to smaller crews say two man sloop (cons) obviously lose the ability to harpoon loot 🤷‍♂️, unless you go 1 harpoon 1 mini cannon...

    • custom lanterns,
What if the lanterns we carry on our pirate could also be used on the ship? There's so many great and beautiful designs that would look great on ships as well as give a little extra flare...

    • purchasable row boats?
What if we could buy a row boat from the merchant? the merchant sells cannon balls, wood, food etc for the ship... why not a row boat, 3 options normal, harpoon and cannon... prices vary... or have it where you can only buy a normal row boat and find an attachment on the seas (harpoon or mini cannon idea above) you sink a ship that just happens to have both harpoon and mini cannon... pick either up and attach to rowie?

    • harpoon damage/zip line
Right every one knows we all can harpoon a crew mate with no regards, surely there should receive alittle bit of damage, I mean your shooting a spear into them... right? But what if u could harpoon too them if at a high levitation and using a cutlass, blunderbuss or EOR they zip line down to the ship...

    • ABILITY TO SHOOT WHILST ON THE WHEEL
another one for the helmsman... again as before loads of buttons not being used whilst steering, what if say we could press Y (again whatever button it is for pc) and the helmsman puts out a pistol (only weapon as the blunderbuss and EOR is 2 handed and would have to be equipped in order to use feature) and can aim at ladders etc for boarders giving them that little change to get a shot off whilst having to steer etc...

There's just a few ideas... obviously open to opinions of course

Completely unrealistic. The wheel controls the rudder. However there is lots of water pushing against the rudder, so moving it costs lots of force (that's also why they use a wheel to move the rudder, since the wheel is already used to lessen the huge force necesary), that's why moving the wheel is so slow. Also remember that they didn't had electric power steering back then.
In movies it's just a prop and not attached to a working rudder, so thats why they can just 'throw' it there, but that is just unrealistic.

  • @super87ghost well tbh SOT isn't really a realistic game now is it, if so it a be a pirate simulator... weather the ability too throw the wheel is realistic or not, does it matter?

If u really want too talk realistic, would you say that hoards of dead skeletal pirates that eat FOOD too regen their health realistic???

  • Throw the wheel/Ability to shoot whilst on wheel

Sounds like a nice option but i think it should be flintlock only. And that you either can't reload or loose the ability to stear while reloading.

    Ship options/Rowboat attachments/

Could be nice strategic element. They could be "heavy" in the sence that you can just walk slowly when you haule them. I don't think the attachments should be purchasable.
And the Rowboat could finally get a hull color based on the last attached ship.

    Custom lanterns/Zip line

    YES! PLEASE
There could also be zip lines on islands/outposts.
Maybe the ability to mount an attachment in the crows nest so you can put a harpoon there would be nice too.

  • I actualize like the idea of taking some damage when being harpooned - it would give us 1 more reason to eat food. 😅

Of course, if this comes to fruition, others would also argue that cannonballs should be capable of friendly fire. 🤕

Yeah flintlock only as mentioned as the other 2 required two hands, but you have to have the flintlock as one of the weapons in your load out to use the feature,

I do like the idea of once attached it takes on the colour of your boat, and ziplines on islands could be a game changer

The other idea I have would be to utilise the pets... let's face it the only thing they do is look cute and dance when playing shanties... why not give them abilities?

    • CATS ability to catch, find and retrieve fish on islands
    • MONKEYS ability to find and retrieve fruit on islands
    • PARROTS ability to scout ahead and report of danger or loot in the seas like squawk keg ahead, or squawk Ship sighted which would make you check the horizon
    • DOGS ability too guard Ship, attack pvp and pve enemies, fetch wood?... other ability could be to sniff out tuckers if you choose to take them to the island and not guard the ship though that ability could be considered OP

As mentioned in another thread, no. As long as pets are locked behind real money, these ideas are pay to win (giving an advantage to those who pay real money), regardless of the potential insignificance of the advantage, it is an advantage.

    1. throw the wheel: is nice idea i like that.
    2. canons on front of the ship: I don't like. beacuse one of true skill be good sailor is to get good angle to able use canons. with another it will be super easy to shot someone. plus that chasing ship will no have chance.
    3. custom lanterns: why not
    4. purchasable row boats: yes, why not.
    5. zip line: is so cool idea i hope they will some day add it.
    6. shoot whilst on the wheel: that seems meh. but be able to shoot from ladder would be nice.

Hmm true on the front cannons, never thought of that unless they made it so you have the same angle as normal cannons, idea was too give the option too try balance the playing field on the sloop and brig, as sloop is 1-2 man ship 1 cannon, brig 2-3 with 2 cannons yet the gallie is 3-4 with 4 cannons meaning everyone can hail cannon fire, obviously gallie wouldn't need the extra mini cannon, but would give say a 3 man brig the opportunity to all hail cannon fire the same...

Didn't think of ladder yet I play COD and can do it on there and never crossed my mind lol,

Hmm I guess your right on the pay to win side, tbh I've never bothered with the idea of buy the pets as well, as mentioned they don't really do much but look cute and dance, seems like waste of money... but if they had purpose I'd consider them, least it be worth it I guess

for that purpuse I use cannon rowboat. :D and play for that side when you have cannon.

  • @baybaton15975 I mean yeah you could/can do that but you have to initially find a cannon rowie to do that first, which u don't always find every time (least I dont)... would be better if we got that option though, just an extra customisation too our ships
